The Real Thing Page 5

Raine looked down at his cock as it sprang free. Daaaammn. He was thick and hard and perfect—and so ready for her. He wanted her as much as she wanted him, it was obvious. Her pussy quivered at the thought of what he was going to feel like inside her. But first she wanted to wrap her hand around him and see if he was actually throbbing, or whether that was her imagination.

Before she could, he slid his hand in her hair and pulled her close for another soul-searing kiss. By the time he lifted his head, she was so dizzy she could barely stand. Thankfully, Logan swung her up in his arms and gently lowered her to his makeshift bed still in front of the hearth. Raine let out a little whimper as her tender bottom came into contact with the blanket, but the sound was muffled as Logan captured her lips again.

He pulled away with a groan to kiss his way down her neck. She knew where he was headed, and as much as she wanted him to go there, her body screamed for him to skip the foreplay and go straight to the main event. She’d never wanted a man this much in her life.

Raine grabbed his shoulders and pulled him up. “That can wait. Right now, I need you inside me.”

Logan let out a sound that was halfway between a groan and a chuckle. “Works for me.” He lowered his head for another kiss, only to jerk back. “Shit.”

  She frowned. “What is it?”

“I almost forgot a condom.” He kissed her hard on the mouth. “Wait here.”

He was on his feet and out of the room before she pushed herself up on her elbows. She listened as he made a racket in the bathroom. She’d completely forgotten about protection, too. Which showed just how crazy in lust she was for him.

Logan came back out looking like he’d just won the lottery. He tore the foil packet open with his teeth, then rolled the condom on his cock as he walked over to her. Raine’s pulse raced as she spread her legs for him eagerly. He positioned himself between her legs, bracing himself on his forearms as his beautiful brown eyes held hers. He rubbed the head of his penis up and down her pussy lips and she could feel her wetness flowing. God, she was soaking already.

She wrapped a hand around the back of his head and pulled him down to lock lips with his in a kiss that was both urgent and pleading. “Stop teasing and fuck me already. Please.”

He paused mid-rub, his erection poised at the opening of her pussy. Then he slowly entered her.

Raine gasped. His cock didn’t just fill her; it took possession of her body. She’d never felt more alive in her life, and all she wanted to do was lie there and let her body and soul be carried away by the incredible sensations pouring through her body. Her legs came up to wrap tightly around him, pulling him as deep as he could go.

She was so full of him she could scarcely breathe, but it was worth it.

Logan held himself still for so long she thought he wasn’t going to move at all, that she would literally orgasm without him thrusting even once. But then he backed out just a touch and thrust into her. Hard. The impact of his cock drove her reddened ass into the blanket, reminding her of the spanking he’d just given her. Her derriere burned and tingled nearly as much as her pussy, and she had to admit the feel of the blanket against her tender skin was absolutely mind-blowing.

“Fuck me harder,” she begged breathlessly.

What had gotten into her? She had never said anything like that. But she knew the answer immediately. She’d never said anything like that because no man had ever made her feel so on fire. To feel Logan fucking her, there was nothing she wouldn’t say.

“I need it hard,” she begged again.

He obeyed, pulling out, them slamming back into her so forcefully that she felt it all the way to the tips of her toes. “Like this?”

  “God, yes! Just like that.”

The words came out breathless and probably unintelligible, but Logan must have understood them because he pounded into her over and over until she could barely see straight.

The floor felt like it rocked under her as he took her exactly the way she needed to be taken. No, he didn’t take her—he possessed her.

She moaned and pulled at him like she was a wild animal.

Then her orgasm was washing over her and she couldn’t see anything but a rainbow burst of colors on the edges of her vision. She didn’t even realize she was screaming until she felt the hoarseness in her throat, and by then, she didn’t care how much noise she was making. Logan came with her, his hoarse groans almost as loud as her screams.

She was so spent afterward that all she could do was lie there. She didn’t even realize Logan had stretched out beside her and pulled her into his arms until she heard the steady thump-thump of his heart beneath her ear.

She’d never had sex that earthshattering in her life, and she couldn’t help but wonder what had made it so amazing. Was it Logan, or the fact that he’d spanked her? She’d been furious after the spanking, so it couldn’t be that, could it? Dominant men had never turned her on. But there was no denying that Logan had—and he was nothing if not dominant.

Logan’s arm tightened around her, pulling her closer. The feel of his body pressed up against hers felt so completely right that she couldn’t help but snuggle into his warmth. She lay there, trying to make sense of her emotions. That probably wasn’t such a good idea, not on the heels of such an out-of-this-world orgasm. But if she didn’t get things straight in her own head, how was she going to deal with tomorrow? Because things would be complicated tomorrow, she was sure. Two people didn’t have sex like they’d had, then just walk away.

But as she buried herself in the comfort of his embrace—comfort she hadn’t felt in a long time—a simple explanation eluded her.

  Chapter Three

Raine woke the next morning to the aroma of freshly made coffee. Propping herself up on an elbow, she pushed her hair back to see sunshine streaming through the windows of the cabin. Blinking the last remnants of sleep from her eyes, she pulled the blanket around her and sat up.

Logan was standing at the window in the kitchen, his back to her, and he turned at the rustling sound. As their eyes met, the memory of what they’d done the night before came rushing back, playing like a scene in a movie. She blushed and quickly looked away.

Last night—while incredible—had been a terrible mistake. Now that she was thinking with her head instead of other parts of her anatomy, she could see that. She’d risked everything for a roll in the hay. If the press found out—or if Logan read more into it than he should—it could do more than jeopardize her upcoming marriage. It could ruin her career all over again. Yes, the sex had been great—okay better than great—but it was still just sex. She had bigger things to worry about, like getting her life back on track.

She held her breath, waiting for Logan to say something, but he only regarded her expectantly, as if waiting for her to do the same thing. When she didn’t, he went back to drinking his coffee again. A twinge of guilt stabbed her. It probably wasn’t fair to act as if nothing had happened, but she didn’t know how else to keep the situation under control. She didn’t want him thinking that what had happened last night was ever going to happen again. She’d told herself that two people didn’t have sex like they’d had, then just walk away, but that was exactly what she was going to do.

Logan cleared his throat. “I already called a tow for you. They’re going to meet us by your car in an hour.”

She pulled the blanket closer. “Thank you.”

He regarded her with that same expectant expression again, as if he were waiting for her to say something about last night. Was that relief she saw on his face when she didn’t?

He set his mug down on the counter. “I guess I should go clean off the truck.”

As he walked out, Raine had to bite her lip to keep from begging him to come back. A minute ago, she’d told herself last night had been a mistake that would never happen again, so why was she already wavering? Because her traitorous body wanted to feel him against her. Wrapped around her. Inside her.

  She swore under
her breath. The faster she got away from Logan and this cabin, the better. She should be happy Logan wasn’t going to make an issue of last night, but all she felt was disappointment.

Things were even more awkward as they drove back to where her car had been snowbound. They hadn’t spoken more than a few words during breakfast, and once in the SUV, they didn’t talk at all.

Raine groaned inwardly when she saw the tow truck wasn’t there yet. Great.

“I’m sure he’ll be here soon.” Her voice sounded overly loud in the quiet of the truck. “You don’t have to wait.”

Logan’s gaze didn’t stray from the window. “It’s too cold for you to stand outside.”

Part of her wanted him to take her up on the offer so she wouldn’t have to think about how those sensuous lips of his had felt on hers, but the other part was glad he hadn’t. Standing outside in the cold would have been more miserable than sitting there daydreaming about something she couldn’t have. Especially since the tow truck didn’t show for thirty more minutes. Then she and Logan had to sit there for another hour while the men unearthed her car from underneath all the snow.

Raine waited until the tow truck guys drove off before turning to Logan. Like her, he wore sunglasses, and she wished she could see his eyes so she could tell what he was thinking. Last night’s romp in bed was still there between them, like a big pink elephant in the room neither one of them wanted to look at. She wanted to say something, but what could she say that wouldn’t either lead him on, or confuse him? Thanks for the great sex? Right. Like that wouldn’t lead him on or confuse him.

She glanced at her little sports car, then back at him. “I should get going.”

Logan nodded. “Have a safe drive. Good luck with that acting thing.”

“Um…thanks.” She tucked her hair behind her ear. “I hope everything works out with your watercolor painting.”

  “Thanks.”

Raine waited, hoping he would say more, but he didn’t. With a sigh, she forced a smile, then got in her BMW and drove off without looking back.

Logan waited until Raine’s car had disappeared around the curve before going back to his SUV. Thank God his filter had kicked in and stopped him from saying something stupid before she’d left. Because if he’d told her he had a great time snowed in with her, she would have thought he was referring to the sex they’d had—which, let’s face it, had been pretty damn great—and from how uncomfortable she looked, it was obvious she regretted sleeping with him.

He, on the other hand, didn’t regret it at all. Sex with her had been some of the best he’d ever had—if not the best. Which sounded insane, considering how much she drove him crazy. But when Raine wasn’t acting like a brat, she was kind of fun to be around. And there was no denying that last night had been a hell of a lot of fun. He’d never been with a woman who let go like that in bed. Not even the ones who got turned on by getting spanked.

His cock hardened inside his jeans as he started his truck. If he didn’t know better he’d think Raine deliberately provoked him into putting her over his knee again. If how hot and wet she’d been was any indication, she liked having her gorgeous ass reddened more than she let on. Too bad he wouldn’t get the chance to show her just how erotic a spanking could truly be. He snorted. Right. Like she’d ever let him put her over his knee willingly. Not that it mattered because he wasn’t going to ever see her again.

For some damn reason, that bothered him a hell of a lot more than it should.

Muttering a curse under his breath, he put the Denali in gear and headed back to the cabin. When he got there, he immediately went to his studio, but instead of painting his next great masterpiece, he stared at a blank piece of watercolor paper for the next hour. He couldn’t believe he was saying this, but without Raine, the cabin was too quiet.

His gaze strayed to the living room. The blankets were still on the floor in front of the hearth, a reminder of the out-of-this-world sex they’d had. He wasn’t sure he was going to be able to look at the navy blue comforter without thinking about Raine lying naked on it, her long, blond hair spread out around her.

Logan tossed his paintbrush in his art box with a curse. If he wasn’t going to get any painting done, there was no reason to stay at the cabin. He could stare at a blank piece of watercolor paper back home in Seattle, where there weren’t any memories of a beautiful Hollywood movie star to distract him.

“Oh my God! Where the heck have you been?”

Raine whirled around at the sound of her assistant’s voice. The redhead’s curly hair was coming loose from her bun and her green eyes had a look of panic in them she’d never seen before. Raine mentally braced for whatever monumental career-disaster had occurred while she was gone.

She tossed her purse on the couch in the mansion’s immense living room. “I told you I was going to the spa for the weekend.”

“They said you never got there.” Chloe pushed a flyaway curl back from her face with a flick of her hand. “I was just about to call the police.”

Raine cringed. That was all she needed. She could just imagine the headline. Search Parties Sent Out for Missing Movie Star. “I told them I didn’t want to be disturbed.”

“That’s what Reginald figured. I wanted to call the cops right away, but he talked me out of it.” She brushed the unruly curl back again. “Since when do you go anywhere without checking in?”

Raine took off her jacket and tossed it onto the couch with her purse. “I guess I just needed some downtime.”

Chloe leaned one hip against the back of the couch and folded her arms. “You seem different. Whatever you did up in the mountains must really have agreed with you.”

If her friend only knew. “So, what’s been going on while I’ve been gone?”

“Not much. Reginald arranged for you and Cameron to go to The Scene next weekend.”

The Scene was the hottest nightclub in Hollywood; all the popular movie stars went there.

“He wants you to do a run through with Cameron before that to make sure you two are sitting the right way and all that.” Chloe rolled her eyes. “You know how he is.”

  She did indeed. “Okay, whatever.”

“There are a few more things, too.” Chloe followed Raine up the stairs to her bedroom, reading from her iPad as she went. “You have an interview with Entertainment Tonight this Thursday. You’re due in Vancouver for pick-up shots next Tuesday. You have a dozen scripts to look at. I put the best ones on top, but I’m not sure if you’re going to be interested in any of them. I also had to move up the fitting for your gown to tomorrow because Reginald set up an interview with Cosmo…”

Raine listened with half an ear as she stripped off her jeans and sweater and slipped on a short silk robe. It wasn’t like she needed to pay attention, anyway. Reginald planned her schedule, and Chloe got her where she needed to be on time. Raine had been letting someone else worry about the details of her life for so long, she didn’t know how to live it any other way.

As Chloe gave her a synopsis of the scripts she mentioned, Raine went into the master bathroom to fill the Jacuzzi. If she’d really spent the weekend at the spa instead of a cabin in the middle of nowhere, she wouldn’t need a soak in the hot tub to ease the tension tightening her shoulders. But if she’d spent the weekend at a spa instead of a cabin in the middle of nowhere, she wouldn’t have met Logan and had the most amazing sex of her life.

Her eyes suddenly filled with tears at the memory. She quickly wiped them away. What the heck was going on with her? She’d known Logan for two whole days, during most of which he’d been a jerk. How could she possibly be missing him?

Because when he wasn’t being a jerk, he was the kind of guy she could see herself falling for.

She shook her head. What was she saying, that she and Logan should date? That was insane. What they’d shared up in those mountains wasn’t real. A relationship like theirs couldn’t survive outside that cabin. She and Logan were from two completely different worl
ds—ones that would never cross paths again.

Even if they did, it wouldn’t matter because she was getting married in two weeks.

She and Cameron were supposed to have left for The Scene over an hour ago, but Raine still wasn’t dressed yet. Chloe had picked something out for her that morning, and though it was one of her favorites—a sexy, little black dress by a designer she loved—she didn’t feel like wearing it. She’d put it back in the closet in favor of a splashy sequined number, but that didn’t work, either. Neither did the silky slip dress, or the leather mini skirt and lacy bustier, or the dozen other outfits she’d tried after that, all of which were now lying on the bed in a heap.

  “What about this?”

Raine turned to find a frustrated Chloe holding up a curve-hugging gown with a plunging neckline. She chewed on her lip as she considered it, then shook her head.

“I’ll just go with the first one you picked out.”

Ignoring her friend’s exasperated sigh, Raine shimmied into the little, black dress she’d tried on earlier.

“Reginald wanted you and Cameron at the club by ten,” Chloe said as she followed Raine out of the room and down the stairs.

Raine bit her tongue. Reginald was lucky she was going at all. Between the interviews and photo shoots her manager’d had her doing, the week had been crazy, and she really didn’t feel like having to put on act tonight, too.

Cameron was waiting for her in the living room, primping in front of the mirror, and he turned at the sound of her footsteps. Raine braced herself, sure he’d be pissed with her for making him wait so long.
