Spade despairingly put his head in his hands. They knew the buttons to push, and they were driving hard.

“You should see the facility she is in. She has every toy a child could want right at her fingertips. She has a penthouse view overlooking the city that rivals the one from the top of Kennedy’s burial spot in Arlington. I know you were there earlier. Did you get a chance to see it?”

  Spade shook his head ‘no.’

“It’s gorgeous, especially at night. The walls of her room are lined with asbestos in case she causes a fire, and sixteen sprinklers line the ceiling, and an extinguisher sits right by her sleigh bed.”

“You call any of that normal? She has no access to people,” said Spade.

“I call it isolation, Mr. Spade, and it could have been far worse. Do you think that the little setup is free? I could have had her killed and been done with it,” the President suggested, which brought the ire out in Spade’s eyes.

“Operative words being ‘could have.’ You don’t want to do this job for us, Mr. Spade? I get that. So do it for Brynn. Do it to get her out of isolation so that she can live a normal life. It’s the least you can do seeing as how you owe her your own.”

Spade looked at the President with anger in his eyes. He knew that they were forcing his hand. Keeping Brynn in isolation was precisely the push he needed to agree to their terms. When everything was said and done, they’d left him little choice.

  “When do we start?”

  The End.
