  Albert “Bud” Wheelon was the CIA’s first deputy director for science and technology, a position he held from 1963 to 1966. He later joined Hughes Aircraft Company as vice-president for engineering and was named executive vice-president for operations in 1986. He became chief executive officer and chairman of the board in 1987. He served as visiting professor of science, technology, and policy at MIT in 1989.
