“I think he’ll get used to the idea. He knows there’s no real choice in this, but I also don’t want you thinking that I don’t want to be here either.”

David looked up at him. “Even though the mating just kind of hit me, I like you. I like having you around me, and I love you, too.”

Storm squeezed the man. “I know. You don’t ever have to worry about that.”

David cast his eyes down. He didn’t say anything.

He didn’t need to. Storm knew whom he was thinking about.

His son. His wife. He was in the prime of his life, too young to go through something like that.

Storm thought about it for a minute. “On the plus side, at least I’m not the same age as Aiden.”

David shivered. “God, that would be so bad.” He laughed suddenly, as though the idea of being mated to a guy the same age as his son creeped him out that badly.

Storm blinked down at the man.

David stopped laughing and looked concerned. “What? What’s wrong?”

“Have I ever heard you laugh before?”

David seemed to think about it. “You must have.”

Storm shook his head. Even if he’d heard David chortle or chuckle about something, he was positive he’d never heard a full belly laugh out of him before.

Now that he had heard it, he was sure that amazing sound had never graced his ears before.

“I don’t think I’ve ever heard you laugh like that.” Storm stroked his hand down David’s back. “But I’ll make sure I hear you make that laugh a lot.”

It would be his promise to his new mate.

David smiled, sighed, and stroked his hand over Storm’s heart.

  “What are you thinking about?”

  David smiled. “Your heart?”

  “My heart?”

David nodded, pushed himself to his knees, and leaned over Storm. “Yes.”

His mouth was sweet as he pressed their lips together, but it wasn’t a simple, chaste kiss. There was a hint of wanting behind it, and Storm grinned through the kiss, knowing where this was going.

“What say you and I try that again, but this time I get to be on top.”

An eager anticipation filled Storm’s chest. “We can do that.”
