“The rest of the girls are still in the hospital?” It would be surprising if they were.
“Yes, they seem to be having a difficult time processing. Joseph has sent a psychologist to visit them. He knows about vampires and everything. They are getting the best possible treatment, but it’s going to be a slow road.” Sam sighed and looked down at her hands.
“I wish there was something we could do for them.” Other than talking to them, I doubted we could help in any way, no matter how much I wanted to.
“What about all of the witnesses? Aren’t they claiming to have seen wolves fighting vamps?
“Actually, there was a gas leak. It seems the hurricane left some damage at the mall after all.” Kat smirked.
“Nice cover story. I guess is helps to explain the crazy visions they all saw.” It’s too bad we couldn’t tell the world the truth.
The public couldn’t handle it. Choosing to believe a gas leak caused someone to hallucinate vampires and werewolves, doesn’t seem right. I bet, somewhere deep down inside, they know the truth. They are just choosing to bury it.
What a crazy week it’s been! A cat 2 hurricane skirted around NOLA, I was almost kidnapped twice by deranged vampires, and only five of the eight missing girls survived the storm.
“What’s next?” Sometimes I felt like I was living in a cartoon.
“We train. Keep learning all we can about this new world and kill all vamps who don’t follow the rules. The last part is my favorite.” I think we created a monster in Kat.
Epilogue
Jenna
“I can’t believe it’s been two weeks since you almost died, Jenna.” Rico just couldn’t let it alone.
He kept reminding me of this fact every day since I woke up.
“Rico, come on. Stop it. I don’t need to be reminded on a daily basis of the fact I almost died. I can’t think of much else.”
“I’m sorry. It’s just, well…I keep seeing you lying in the bed with your eyes closed and unresponsive to everything. I went nuts the week you were out of it. Can you blame me?” He tilted his head and looked into my eyes with such intensity. It caused my heart to pitter patter like a stormy night.
We were in my garage. It was the only place we could talk without being interrupted. Since I woke up, we had not been left alone for more than a couple of minutes.
Not because anyone was afraid we would do anything fun, it was because my sisters couldn’t stand to be away from me for more than a few minutes. They were constantly hovering and asking me if I needed anything. It was exhausting.
“Rico, I know I screwed up a few times since meeting you. The last encounter with vampires has taught me I have soooo much to learn still.” I paced the small area of my garage where we stored our band equipment.
We hadn’t had a gig in a few weeks and it was really starting to bother me. Kat refused to book anything until Rico gave her the green light regarding my health.
“I won’t use much magic going forward. In fact, I have learned magic doesn’t always help. Sometimes, it can be harmful. When can I start my kung-fu training again? Rico hated it when I called martial arts training “kung-fu.” I loved messing with him.
“Jenna…you know Martial Arts training is not called kung-fu. Why can’t you learn the proper terms?” With a frustrated sigh, he ran a hand through his hair, showing off his muscled forearms.
While trying to keep from laughing, I reached up and put my arms behind his head. The feel of his hair between my fingers sent chills down my spine. “Rico, you know I love to mess with you. My sisters have already started back up with their routines. I’m ready. I don’t want to wait any longer or I’ll get too far behind.”
“I’ll help you catch up if you do.” Rico wrapped his arms around my waist.
I looked up from beneath my fluttering eyelashes and said in a whisper, “Plus, I miss rolling around on the mats with you.”
Rico moaned and put his forehead against mine. “I just want to make sure your back to one hundred percent before taxing your body so much. I couldn’t handle it if something happened to you, again.”
“Then we’ll take it slowly.” A smile slowly developed as I thought about other things I wanted to take slowly with him.
Rico closed his eyes and inched his lips closer to mine. I could feel his hot breath against my lips right before he lightly brushed a kiss on them.
I returned the soft kiss which turned into a smoldering, hot kiss very quickly. Tingles covered my body from head to toe. This kiss felt like it had the power to curl my toes.
“Knock-knock.” Aleric called out when he walked into my garage, interrupting my first kiss with Rico mid-toe curl.
“Oh! Sorry, man. I had no idea.” Aleric said as he backed away and looked anywhere but at us.
“What did you need?” Rico barked.
I could feel his body tense up. Mine did too. It was the first time we had been alone for more than five minutes. He had finally kissed me! Some stupid witch had to go and interrupt us before Rico could even begin to deepen the kiss.
“Truly, I’m sorry. I hadn’t realized you two finally got over yourselves. I guess a near death experience can do that, huh?” Aleric was babbling and still couldn’t look at us.
My face was burning up. It was such an embarrassing situation to be caught in. I hoped my face wasn’t red.
“The witch’s council has requested your presence tomorrow.” Aleric was standing in the doorway to my garage.
“You could have just sent me a text. Why the in person invite?” Rico dropped his arms from around my waist and stepped away from me.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t clear. The invite is for Jenna and the Dolls.” Aleric looked up to me.
My eyes opened wide. “Oh? Why us?”
“The council no longer has faith in the vampire queen. They have a proposition for you and your sisters. Please join us tomorrow in council chambers at five o’clock.” Aleric looked over to Rico. “You are invited, if you wish to attend.”
“Thank you, Aleric. I will attend. Does this mean the entire council will be present?” Rico narrowed his eyes before taking hold of my hand and squeezing it.
“No. It isn’t an official meeting. The head of the council thought it would be easier if you met in chambers. It is a confidential meeting. Please tell no one else, and bring your sisters with you.” Aleric turned around and left before I could even respond to his request.
“Rico, do you know what’s going on?” I scratched my head and blinked a few times.
“War is coming.”

There are two novella prequels currently available!
Midnight Magic carries The Voodoo That You Do and tells the story of what happens to men when they cheat on Indie! She’s the best voodoo doll maker there is! Any guy would be foolish to mess with her!
Magic’s Not Real. It’s the prequel which tells the story of the vampire who tried to kill Jenna with a death curse! It also shows how the Dolls met Rico and his pack. While technically this story takes place after The Voodoo That You Do, you could read either of these stories in any order, but I recommend starting with The Voodoo That You Do. (This should be available on Amazon any day now! Keep an eye on my website!)

Author’s Notes
Thank you so much for reading the second book in my latest series, The Voodoo Dolls! I hope you are enjoying it half as much as I’m enjoying the writing of this series! I plan to get started on writing book 3 right away! It should release early July 2017, so keep an eye out for it!
Jenna and the Dolls are still learning. They have more growing to do. We all do, really. I don’t think anyone in real life ever stops learning, at least, I hope they don’t. What I am enjoying about this series is how much Jenna and her sisters grow. They were just normal young adults until a huge event. Then, they learned magic was real, and so were all of the scary stories they learned growing up.
Now, my Voodoo Dolls are starting to fight back, and win! They have some setbacks, and a lot to still learn, but they are moving forward.
Keep an eye out on Kat in the next book. I haven’t given you much about her yet as her story. It’s still developing in my brain. I had an epiphany while finishing this book and almost stopped writing it so I could write book 3! Kat will play a major role in the next book! No spoilers here. :)
I was going to call this book Fighting Magic because they had to learn how to fight and use magic. I polled my newsletter subscribers and Hurricane of Magic was a huge winner! I hope you thought so as well.
Please consider leaving a review on Amazon or Goodreads for this book, or any book you read. Without reviews, authors don’t know what you like or dislike about a book.
Sharing is caring! So be sure to tell your friends about The Voodoo Dolls!

Writing a book takes more than just the author. This is a team effort all the way around! I originally had two covers for this one book. The designer I contracted with to do the series was so busy, I had to wait until the book was done to get the cover. So I contacted my regular designer, Victoria Cooper, and asked her for help with getting a temp cover so I could put up the book for pre-sale. She did such a great job, I decided to make it the cover for the trilogy once it’s all done. So, if you bought an early copy of this book, don’t worry about losing the fantastic cover Victoria did because it will be on the trilogy.
Rebecca Frank has been contracted to do all three covers! She is fantastic and highly sought after. The only downside is she had a very long waitlist. But it’s worth it to wait for her covers as they are a work of art! Thanks Becky for such a great series of covers!!
Editing is the one part I hate. LOL I have a wonderful and talented developmental editor. Rebecca Reddell has been with me for a while now, which is really nice. She has gotten to know my style so well, and has taught me a ton about writing. Rebecca used to be an English Teacher! Yikes! She is also an indie author. I think her insight into how to write is something which has taught me more than getting a degree in creative writing would do for me. Thank you Becky for working hard and always delivering, even when I don’t give you much time!
Beta readers are the last line. After Becky does my edits, I run over the story and always add more, or take away. Since I don’t send back to my editor, I use Beta readers. They read the story and catch typos, grammatical errors, and sometimes even some inconsistency issues. I’m not perfect. I can mess things up after the re-writes I do. A huge thank you goes out to Leo Roars, Sandy Kirnbauer, and Kathy Miller! Thank you so much for getting this turned around so quickly!
