So Sensitive Page 8

by Anne Rainey

Gracie held the book to her chest, as if in some feeble effort to protect it from him. Or was the book protecting her? She shook the thought from her mind, not al owing herself to guess at the answers that lay hidden there.

“Amazing, Wade. This room is absolutely amazing.”

He smiled, as if pleased by her compliment. “When I saw your books, I thought maybe you’d enjoy this room.” He tapped the book she stil held to her chest and said, “I see you’ve chosen one of Poe’s col ected works. Very good choice. Poe is my favorite. I’ve read everything he’s ever written dozens of times over.”

His voice captivated her. As it had since the first moment he’d spoken to her. Gracie took her mind off the sound of it and concentrated on the book in her hand instead. “I love Poe, but especial y this one.”

He leaned down and kissed her. This time his lips pressed against hers and lingered a second before lifting away. “You can take it home if you like. In fact, help yourself to whatever appeals.”

Stunned by both his generosity and the kiss, Gracie quickly shook her head. “Oh, no, Wade. I couldn’t. I’d be too afraid of ruining them or losing them.”

Wade laughed. “I’m not worried about it, Gracie. I saw how precious those books in your living room were to you.” He eyed the book and murmured, “In fact, I think I’m a little jealous right now.”

  She blinked. “You are?”

“You’re holding that book against your pretty breasts, protecting it as if it were a lover instead of paper and ink.” His voice dropped an octave. “You have two options. Read Poe’s delightful y twisted story, or let me take you to my bedroom, where I can worship those perfectly pierced nipples the way I did last night.” He raised a hand to her hair and smoothed his way down to her neck. He cupped her nape in a dominating hold. “What’l it be, pretty Gracie?”

  10

Gracie wasn’t sure how to take this man. He was just so candid. It threw her off balance. The ache in her breasts let her know exactly what her body wanted. Just the thought of having Wade’s mouth wrapped around her nipples, suckling and teasing, had her pussy throbbing and her panties soaking wet. But the man had to go and get al authoritative on her. She had two options? What if she wanted to do something else? It was damned arrogant of him to act as if he were her lord and master.

“You like it when people do what you say, don’t you? You like to be in charge, having everyone obey.”

He was quiet a moment, just watching her with steady, predator eyes. It was discomforting that he could be so motionless—almost as if he wil ed the very air around them to a halt. She shook off the fanciful notion, not wil ing to give in to her wayward imagination. She could il afford to be anything but alert and on guard with Wade.

“Tel me, Gracie,” he said, his voice deceptively calm, “would you be one to obey my every command?”

Immediately her back went rigid with anger. “I don’t bow and cower to men. Ever!”

At once, he had the book out of her hands and his mouth inches from hers. His fingers bit into the flesh of her upper arms as he growled, “The only place I’l ever command you is in the bedroom. I don’t want a damn doormat, Gracie. I want you. Ful of fire and sass. The very thought of you cowering is ludicrous. You’ve had a stalker for the last two months, and you’ve yet to show any real weakness. Don’t you know it’s your strength that I find so appealing?”

She was too confused. Her mind was muddled from the intoxicating nearness of him. “Then why would you want to command me in the bedroom? What’s that about?”

He loosened his hold, but didn’t let go. She was only too glad he didn’t. “It’s my way. I want you to submit to me, Gracie. The way you did last night. Give yourself over to me. No reservations, no fear. You’l only find pleasure in my arms. I promise you that. Only pleasure, baby.”

She was just about to cave, to give them both exactly what they so badly craved, when his manner swiftly changed. He turned and looked at the staircase, as if listening to some faint sound that only he could hear. Then suddenly he thrust her behind him and pul ed out the gun he had strapped to his ankle. Then she heard it too. Footsteps on the stairs. Was that more than one set of footsteps? Her heart kicked into high gear, and she clutched onto the back of Wade’s shirt.

  “Yo, Wade, where are you?”

Wade cursed and lowered the gun, but he didn’t put it away. “Up here,” he yel ed back; his voice was raw power itself. She suspected just the sound of it could have grown men going weak in the knees. Al she could see was the rippling muscles of his back. The shirt covering him could barely contain the corded planes. Every nerve, every sexy, hard inch of him was at attention.

  “Wade?”

He hushed her. “Stay put until I’m sure.”

Could her stalker have found her here? But no, whoever had cal ed up to them, Wade had recognized the voice. She stayed quiet and concentrated on the developing situation. Out of the silence, Gracie heard a female voice. It was seductive, with a hint of laughter. Immediately, Gracie was swamped with a nauseating amount of jealousy. Had a past lover come cal ing? When she’d al but made up her mind to step around Wade to find out for herself, he surprised her by moving to the side. She got her first glimpse of their visitors.

A man and a woman, both with the same dark hair and eyes as Wade’s. The woman had a flowing mass of shiny chocolate brown hair. More vibrant and beautiful than it had a right to be. She was flawlessly built, too, with curves in al the right places. She was every bit as tal as Wade, Gracie noted. Gracie suddenly felt even more frumpy and battered than ever. The man at the other woman’s side smiled with mischief. He looked like a younger version of Wade. Was this the brother and sister then?

Her head started to pound. Gracie touched her fingers to her temples and rubbed, closing her eyes as she did—trying in vain to be rid of the headache. Instantly Wade was there, touching her face with light, soft caresses. “What is it, Gracie?”

“I’m getting a headache.” She peeked up at him with one eye and grumbled, “It’s no big deal, real y.”

Wade put the safety back on the smal revolver and shoved it in his ankle holster before saying, “I don’t care to see you in pain.”

Gracie closed her one open eye again, unsure what to say. Wade pul ed her fingers down, replacing them with his own. He massaged and pushed at al the right spots, softly whispering, wil ing her to relax. Who was she to bitch? The man had the magic touch. She folded her arms over her chest and let Wade have his way. Soon, she felt better. He’d reduced the headache to barely a throb. She touched her forehead and couldn’t help wondering what else the talented man had up his sleeve.

  “Thank you.”

He leaned down and kissed her forehead, then murmured, “You’re welcome.”

Someone cleared his or her throat, and Gracie felt her cheeks heat. She’d nearly forgotten they weren’t alone. Wade had the ability to block out the rest of the world.

She saw them standing at the entrance to the library. The woman stil looked classy and beautiful. The man who so closely resembled Wade stil had a grin on his face.

“Aren’t you going to introduce us, bro?”

Wade’s arm came around her waist and pul ed her in tight in a possessive hold that spoke volumes. “Gracie, this is the brother and sister I told you about earlier.” Wade glared at Dean and said, “Your timing sucks.”

Gracie crossed the room and stuck her hand out. “It’s nice to meet you both. Wade was just tel ing me about you.”

Dean was the first to step forward. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Gracie.” To her utter astonishment, he bowed over her hand and left a light kiss on her knuckles. She heard Wade say Dean’s name, as if in warning. Dean only bobbed his eyebrows at her and said, “He can be sort of touchy.”

She smiled at his playfulness. Dean was just as big and muscular as Wade, and a bit more intense. Although he didn’t send her heart racing the way Wade did. The woman merely shoved Dean to the side and
gave her own introductions. “Deanna. Nice meeting you, Gracie.”

“It’s nice to meet you too. Wade was tel ing me that you’re the genius who decorated his home. It’s beautiful.”

She waved the compliment away. “Eh, it’s a hobby. I enjoy it, but it’s not something I want to get paid to do.”

“It seems to me you could make good money, though.”

“Yeah, but then I’d have to kiss up to people and put up with their ridiculous tastes. No, thanks.”

Gracie laughed. “I do see your point.”

“And now that you’ve al met, how about you scram so Gracie and I can get back to doing what we were doing before you barged in. Again.

  Without knocking.”

“We knocked. You just didn’t hear us.”

  “I would’ve heard.”

Dean glanced at her, then back at Wade. “I’m thinking you were distracted.”

“Whatever. Did you two actual y want something or are you just here to harass me?”

Deanna spoke up this time, her frown of disapproval obvious. “You said we’d go check out that apartment together for Mom. Remember?”

He raked a hand through his hair. “Shit. I forgot about that.”

Dean shoved his hands in his pockets and in a sarcastic tone, he said, “Yeah, we figured that out al by ourselves.” He flicked a glance to Wade’s ankle. “What’s with the hardware? Something up?”

“Stalker. Jonas and I have it covered.”

“That why she has the bruises and the broken wrist?”

Wade stiffened. “That happened before we were brought in, smart-ass.”

“Ah, I see.” Dean started back toward the stairs, his grin once again in place. “Wel , we’l let you get back to protecting and serving.”

Again Gracie blushed. Damn, she hated when she did that. It was a big, flashing sign that stated: Look at me! I’m embarrassed!

“Do you two mind checking out that apartment without me?”

Deanna spoke up this time. “Don’t sweat it.”

“Thanks. I’l make it up to you.”

“Dinner at the Squeeze,” Dean was quick to say.

Wade rol ed his eyes. “You would pick that place.”

Curious, Gracie asked, “What’s the Squeeze?”

“Only one of the most expensive seafood restaurants around,” Wade grumbled.

Gracie suddenly felt selfish, and terribly guilty. She was keeping him from his family, and that wasn’t right. “You could always go with them. I’m sure I’l be fine here alone for a while. Besides, Jonas is right next door.”

Wade’s expression tightened, his eyes glittering with anger. “You trying to get rid of me, Gracie?”

“Of course not! But your family needs you right now. Besides, I doubt my stalker knows where you live, Wade. I’m sure I’l be fine.”

  “No.”

His tone brooked no argument, which immediately pissed her off. “No?”

He crossed his arms over his chest. “No. I’m not leaving you unprotected. And I’m not leaving you in Jonas’s care either, so get that notion out of your head right now.”

“You’re being incredibly stubborn. Again.” She heard Dean chuckle, and she glared over at him. “Do you have something to add?”

He held up both hands, palms out. “We were just leaving. We’l , uh, cal you later, Wade.”

Dean started down the stairs, but Deanna hung back. Wade passed a hand over his face and sighed. “Was there something else, sis?”

The beautiful woman, whom she’d been so jealous of moments earlier, gave her an admiring look before turning her attention to Wade. “I like her. She’s got backbone.”

Gracie was stunned and admittedly flattered. Her supposed backbone fairly melted, however, when Wade looked down at her and murmured, “That’s what I’ve been trying to tel her.”

  “Just don’t screw it up.”

Wade’s gaze shot to his sister’s. “Gee, thanks for the vote of confidence.”

She blew him a kiss, then disappeared down the stairs. And Gracie was once again alone in the library with Wade.

“Where were we?” he whispered. “Ah, yes. We never finished our conversation. Wil you give me obedience in the bedroom, Gracie? Wil you submit to me?”

There was a smal part of her that wanted to argue. To shoot him down for even daring to ask such a thing. But there was a much bigger part aching to do exactly what Wade wanted. A tiny battle waged inside of her, but it was an unfair fight. “Yes.”

“You won’t regret it, sweetheart.” His voice had changed, lowering to a velvety whisper.

Gracie felt him caressing her arms. His strokes were so gentle, like a butterfly’s wings. He so easily kept her off balance. One minute demanding; the next caressing. “Wade?”

  “I’m hungry,” he murmured.

Al at once, his face transformed. His eyes heated and darkened; his mouth curved up in a predatory smile. “I want another taste of your pretty body. I’ve been thinking of nothing else since last night.”

  “I fel asleep on you.”

“Yes, you did. And I’m glad.”

  “You are?”

“Yes. Had you been awake I wouldn’t have had the strength to hold back. I would’ve taken you, Gracie. Hard. Do you know what I’m saying?”

  “Y-Yes.”

“I’m not a gentle man, baby. I want you in fifty different, dirty ways. I want my cock buried in your tight little cunt. I want to suck and toy with the rings in your nipples. I didn’t sleep for thinking about al the ways I wanted to fuck you.”

“I’m not a child, Wade. You don’t have to hold back. I want those things, and I’m not as sore today, not like yesterday. It’s going to kil me if you don’t stay this time.”

“I’m not going anywhere, Gracie. But I won’t hurt you, so we may have to alter things a bit this first time.”

Gracie placed her palm against his chest, directly over his heart. “You’d never hurt me.” She knew it in her bones.

“Only pleasure,” he reiterated, and then he bent toward her and touched her lips with his own. Tasting and licking. Nibbling and enticing her mouth to open for him. She whimpered and sagged against him.

He caught her tight against his chest and sank his tongue into her mouth. For the first time in her life, Gracie submitted ful y to a man.

  11

Wade watched Gracie drift into his kiss. Christ, he loved watching the expressions chase across her face. She had no idea how much passion she exhibited when she let herself go. He’d been going crazy since his first glimpse of her body. Being with her al morning and not being able to have another taste of her had been pure hel . She’d been on fire last night and now he would final y feel al that scorching heat wrapped around his cock.

He dipped his knees and, as gingerly as possible, lifted her into his arms. She wrapped her arms around his neck, and he could feel the hard cast covering her wrist against the back of his head. It was a reminder of how fragile she was right now. He’d need to take care or risk hurting her.

He took her to his bedroom, the place he’d so badly ached to have her since the instant she’d looked up at him with that sweet smile at Serene Comfort. He placed her on his king-size bed. She opened her eyes and watched him. Excitement brewed in the pretty green depths, but so did uncertainty. He stepped back and reached down to unhook his ankle harness. He placed it and the gun on his end table before flicking on the little lamp. The soft light bathed the room in a gentle glow. He drank in the sight of Gracie—from her fiery red hair to the curves so strategical y concealed by the oversized blouse and long skirt she wore. She might think she was fooling people with the conservative clothes, but he’d seen the sexy hourglass figure beneath the miles of material. So had his brother Dean. It’d pissed him off to witness the lust in his brother’s eyes. Any other man would’ve gotten a fist in his face for kissing Gracie’s knuckles. Her body was his to kiss. His own personal playground. It didn’t matter that the ges
ture was only meant as a greeting. He’d stil wanted to rip into Dean.

Wade unclipped his cel phone and sent a quick “do not disturb” text to Jonas, then set the device on the table next to his gun. “Now, where were we? . . .” Wade whispered, as he knelt on the bed and kissed her. He didn’t stop until he felt her relaxing. He loved kissing Gracie. She had an untamed and untutored mouth that made a man insane with need. The innocent feel of her soft, plump lips drew the beast out in him. The slow, shy way she opened for his invasion. It was fucking addicting. He wanted to drink in her freshness. Keep her bound to his bed forever.

Taking her mouth wasn’t enough, though. Would never be enough. He needed the flavor of her pussy on his tongue. He wanted to sip at her every morning, lick her to completion for lunch, and sink his tongue deep for dinner. He wil ed his dick to relax, but it wasn’t much into doing as commanded. Slowly, she tipped her head to one side, exposing the throbbing vein in her ivory neck. Her skin beckoned to him, tempting him beyond reason. He licked a leisurely path downward, taking little sweeping tastes of her lips, her chin, until final y he was hovering over that very spot that was driving him into a whirlpool of frenzied need.

“When my cock sinks deep into your hot, little pussy, baby, you’re going to hug me tight, aren’t you?” Wade whispered to her and felt her begin to nod in agreement, as if unable to form the actual words. Normal y so headstrong and defiant, yet now she could’ve been a virgin the way she peeked at him through her lashes. So innocent, yet so eager. Wade licked the silky length of her neck, feeling her pulse jump and speed up. He lifted slightly and spoke again, this time putting more emphasis into his demand. “Tel me you want this. That you trust me with your pleasure. Let me hear the words, sweet angel.”
