With mine pressed against his forehead, I looked him right in the eyes.
“Didn’t I tell yo’ ass to stop fucking with me? You had enough warnings, but apparently your ass isn’t too fucking smart.”
“Fuck you Theory. I’m the least of your worries. Trust that nigga.”
“You threatening me Ross? You got your weak ass people coming for me?” I said pressing my gun harder into his forehead.
“Don’t worry about who's coming for your bitch ass, just know they’re coming.”
I let out an arrogant laugh. “I have to give it to your dumb ass. You know you’re about to die and you still talking shit. Fuck, I didn’t think you had it in you. I guess you proved me wrong.”
“Mac got you thinking you can’t be touched but trust me, you're about to find out real soon that Mac can’t protect your ass anymore.”
“See, that’s your problem, you always worried about the wrong shit. The only thing Mac ever did for me was give me a chance to prove myself. From the day he put me on, it’s been all about me. The fact that I’m untouchable don’t have shit to do with Mac. It’s because niggas know that I’m not to be fucked with. I did that shit by stacking bodies of the people who refused to believe that. Just like how you’re about to be another reference as to why fucking with me is the wrong move. I hope you made arrangements for the day your ass don’t make it home, ‘cause your ass ain’t making it home.”
I pulled the trigger and just like that, Ross was gone. I stood up and looked down at the blood on my clothes before I glanced at my truck. I wished like hell that this shit hadn’t just gone down but it did, and now I had to deal with the fallout.
*****
Rain didn't say a word to me once I got in after killing Ross. She looked at me, looked down at my clothes, watched as I placed my Glock under my seat and pulled off, but didn’t say one word. I didn't speak either because I didn’t know what to say. I knew she had a million questions flying through her head, but I needed time to prepare to answer them. I knew it was coming, so I was just buying time and her silence was giving me that.
Rain and I walked through the garage of my house and entered through the kitchen. Once we were inside, I dropped her bag on the kitchen counter and turned to face her. She stood by the door looking around like she didn’t know what to do with herself, so I finally spoke.
“I’m about to go hop in the shower and then we can talk.” Without a word, she looked at me, nodded slowly and then left the kitchen. I headed upstairs to my bedroom while she moved towards the theatre room.
Thirty minutes later, I was dressed in boxer briefs and joggers, dreading the conversation that I knew I was about to have, but I knew it couldn’t be avoided. The house was quiet and when I reached the theatre room it was dark, but I could see Rain from the light that reflected from the hallway. She was sitting in one of the chairs with her legs crossed Indian style, with her head back and eyes closed. She looked up when she heard me enter the room, so I stopped in front of her as our eyes met.
“You ready to talk about what just happened?” I asked.
“Did you just kill somebody?” she asked like it had been sitting on the tip of her tongue, waiting.
“Yeah, I did.”
“Why?”
“Because if I hadn’t, he would have likely killed me.”
“That’s not what I mean Theory, why would he want to kill you? You own a detail shop, right? So is that the kind of reaction you get when you mess up somebody’s car? I mean, if you own a detail shop right?”
I laughed which I was sure didn’t help the situation, but she was trying to be sarcastic and it was funny as hell. Rain had a way of trying to let you know she was right about something without really saying it. She had always been that way, but seeing it now made me laugh.
“First of all, I do own a detail shop, two as a matter of fact, and we don't mess up cars. But you know what went down didn’t have shit to do with that. You’re a lot of things but stupid is not one of them. You know me Rain. You know what I’m about and you know where I’m from. You leaving only changed shit for you, but my life stayed the same. You had to know that.”
“Who do you work for?” she asked. I knew that question was about my history with Mac.
Again I laughed. “I work for my damn self; the fuck you mean who do I work for?”
She just looked at me trying to figure out what to say next. The way her mind worked, I knew that she had a lot of shit she wanted to say, but she wasn’t going to speak until she felt like she had it all figure out in her head.
“Mac put me on years ago, but that’s all he did was put me on. I met Frank and Niles around the same time and we just clicked. We put our own shit together and just like that, we took over. We never fucked with Mac’s territory or his people, and he never fucked with ours. We sort of had an unspoken respect for one another and as long as we were both eating, then shit was good. As for Ross, the guy I just killed, he couldn't respect that. He felt like Mac should have given him the same respect, but you have to earn respect; nobody is going to just give that shit to you. He wasn’t handling his shit so we took over. He had a problem with it, which meant that he had a problem with me. I handle problems.”
Again Rain was silent. Processing. I could see it in her eyes as she looked at me, so I stood there in front of her waiting, and when I couldn’t take it anymore, I spoke.
“Does that change things for you?” I asked.
“What am I supposed to say to that? We’re not kids anymore Thee; you're not just making runs for Mac. You are Mac.”
“I get that, but the same way I asked you back then and you said no, I’m asking you now. Does that change things for you?”
I had plans to get out, but I couldn't tell her that until I knew if she was going to stay either way, because I knew that I would never really be out. It didn’t work that way, but at least I could distance myself enough from it, so that she wouldn’t be affected by it.
“No.” She looked me right in the eyes and said it with so much confidence that I couldn't help but smile.
“You sure ‘bout that?” I asked, finally feeling like it was safe for me to be in her personal space.
“Just promise me that you got me and I’m good.”
I pulled her to her feet, and my hands touched the sides of her face before my lips met hers.
“Don’t I always?”
I kissed her a few more times and then looked in her eyes. “We good?”
“We’re good.”
“Aight then, you ready to go half on a baby?” I said half joking, half serious.
“How ‘bout we compromise and just practice,” Rain said with a smirk.
“Nah, fuck that. Go hard or go home.”
When we made it to my room, Rain wasted no time coming out of her clothes. I sat on the foot of my bed watching, as her clothes hit the floor. There was something about her that had my ass damn near about to nut from just watching her move. It was sexy as a fuck and all she was doing was taking her clothes off.
When her body was completely exposed, she moved towards me like she was anticipating what was about to happen. I could see it in her eyes. I had been with my share females but no one ever affected me the way that Rain did. She had my ass ready to buy rings and shit.
I slid off the end of the bed when Rain’s body was positioned between my legs.
“Oh, so you running shit tonight, huh?” I chuckled.
“Looks that way,” she said, placing her hands on my chest and then kissing my neck.
“What if I’m not cool with that?”
“Then do something about it.” I couldn’t help but smile. I was liking this side of Rain.
Again I chuckled. Her hands were moved to my waist, and my jeans and boxers hit the floor. I stepped out of my loosely laced Timbs, and then stepped away from my clothes before I lifted Rain, and her legs wrapped around my waist. I moved towards the wall needing leverage to keep her in place, but when I reac
hed her center, I stopped and she frowned.
“Do don’t that,” she said looking me right in my eyes.
“I thought you were running shit tonight. If you want it, take it,” I said.
I felt her hands around my shaft, as she thrust her hips forward so that I could enter her and then her arms roped around my neck. Fuck that, it was time to do work.
Rain’s back hit the wall with so much force that I knew for sure her yellow ass was going to have a bruise. “Why you not breathing Rain, a nigga done took your breath away?”
“Shut...shuuu.”
“Oh wait, your ass can’t talk either,” I chuckled, and Rain lowered her head on my shoulder holding me closer as I went deeper. I was gassed the fuck up and that made me go harder.
When I felt Rain’s teeth bite down on my shoulder, I knew it was over. This was the second time I went in unprotected, and I was thinking about pulling out but fuck it, she didn’t say shit so neither was I. Either she wanted to have my baby or she had it covered, but I wasn’t about to ask, so I kissed her and released so damn hard, I thought I was gonna drop her ass my body got so weak. After a few minutes, I felt Rain’s head lift off my shoulder.
“Now who’s not breathing?” I looked in her eyes and she had a cute ass grin on her face.
“Nah, I’m good. That’s your ass,” I said and lowered her to the floor, but I held her in my arms and kissed her again.
She just laughed and stepped away from me, moving towards the bathroom. I watched her as she moved away from me and then followed. This was about to be a long night.

Rain
“Do you really have another bitch in your bed?” I woke up to the sound of a female’s voice, and when I opened my eyes, I had to squint because the main light was on. My first instinct was to look at Theory, who was on his stomach with his face buried in the arm he had folded under his head.
“Who the fuck are you?” she yelled when my eyes finally made it to a very angry woman who was standing at the foot of his bed and was now focused on me.
“Thee, wake up.” I shoved him in the shoulder and it took him a minute, but he lifted his head slowly, having the same reaction to the light that I did.
“Why the fuck you got the light on?” he mumbled as he reached for me, but I pushed him away and pointed to the foot of his bed. I was naked so I held the sheet across my chest to cover my body, while he sat up and caught sight of our visitor.
“Lani, what the fuck you doing here?”
“No, the better question is what the fuck is she doing here? You know I get that you fuck other bitches, but you could at least respect me enough not to have them in our bed.”
Theory threw the covers back and slid off the side of the bed. I watched her, as she watched him reach for his joggers on the floor and step into them. She waited patiently while he tied them and then move towards her. When she was within reach, he grabbed a hand full of the silky hair that flowed down her back, and then pulled her face to his before he pointed to his bed.
“This is my house and that is my fucking bed. You don’t own shit here, so don’t refer to it like you do. As for who I allow in MY bed, that is none of your fucking business. You're not my girl Lani. There’s no mistake about that, so don’t bring your ass in here questioning shit like you are.”
She was embarrassed as her eyes fell on me, but she tried her best to hide it. I didn’t know what was going on but I wasn’t feeling it, so I slid off the bed, wrapping the sheet completely around my body, but Theory turned towards me while still holding this Lani chick in place.
“Rain, chill, she’s leaving.”
“Rain?” Lani’s focus was on me again, but this time she wasn't embarrassed, she was angry. Her eyes moved from me to Theory before staying on him.
“So this is the bitch whose name you got tattooed on you?”
“Won’t be too many more bitches coming my way,” I said annoyed by the fact that she was here. Theory had security codes to enter his house which I didn't even know, yet here this bitch was standing in his bedroom like she owned the place. She might not have been his girl but she was something to him.
“Rain, don’t entertain her bullshit. That’s not even you.”
He let go of her hair and pointed to the door. “You need to get the fuck out of my house and trust me when I say, if you think about doing anything stupid, I don’t give a fuck who your father is, that nigga won’t be able to save you.”
She looked at me once more before she turned to leave. She might have had a crazy streak, but she evidently knew Theory well enough not to challenge him, because she turned to leave without another word spoken. He followed behind her and I threw on a pair of sleep shorts and a tank top, and was right behind them. I stopped at the top of the stairs and watched as she stormed to the front door, pulled it open and then slammed it. Theory was right behind her, but he keyed something in the keypad on the door, and then moved to the keypad on the wall and did the same thing.
Right after, he walked back up the stairs, right past me, and then back into his bedroom. He was sitting on the foot of the bed waiting for me when I entered the room, and I could tell he was irritated, but so was I.
“I should have changed the code, but that shit just slipped my mind,” he said looking me right in the eyes, as I stood in front of him with enough distance that he couldn’t reach me.
“Why did she have it in the first place if she’s not your girl?” I asked.
“I’m not saying we weren’t fucking around because we were. Shit, she’s been round for a few years now but no, she’s not my girl. You of all people know I don't do relationships; she knew that, but she made it what she wanted it to be. I’m not gone lie, I fucked with her pretty heavy, but it was what it was. She knew that the day I decided it was done then, that shit was over and she didn’t have a say in it. The day you showed up at Marty’s, it was over. I haven’t been with her since. Not that I owe you an explanation, because I don’t, but I respect you enough to give you one.”
“See, that’s funny, because it looks like she didn’t get the memo about it being over. Otherwise, that shit wouldn’t have happened.”
“Call it what you want and say what you want, but I haven't fucked with her since the day I laid eyes on your ass again. I might not have specially called her ass to tell her, but I’ve been a little busy. That don’t change the fact that there ain’t shit between us anymore. You’re either good with that or you’re not, but it’s the truth.”
“So that’s it?” I asked.
“What the fuck else is there?” He stood, dropped his joggers and then walked to the side of the bed. I watched as he climbed in and threw the comforter over his body, since the sheet was still on the floor where I left it. What the fuck just happened?
“Yo’ ass can stand there all night or get in bed, but either way turn the light out. I’m tired as fuck, but if you get in this bed you can leave those clothes on the floor.”
Theory was on his back with one arm laying across his chest, while the other was folded covering his eyes. He was so damn arrogant that I couldn’t hardly stand it, but I also couldn’t walk away either, and he knew it.
I pulled my tank top over my head, stepped out of my shorts, walked over to the wall and shut off the light. After I closed his bedroom door, I climbed into bed with him, but kept my distance. Theory’s deep voice filled the room as he laughed and pulled me into his body.
“You might as well chill with all that sensitive shit, Rain. I don’t give a fuck about any of that. Just because she pushed some buttons to get in here don’t mean shit. She knows who you are for a reason. I made it very clear that there was only one person who would ever have my heart, and that’s you.”
The room fell silent and shortly after, Theory’s breathing picked up and his heartbeat against my back slowed down. I knew he was asleep and as much as I wanted to be mad, I couldn’t. He was right. I belonged to him the same way he belonged to me. We both knew
that. I closed my eyes and placed my hands over his and tried to relax. It didn’t take long before I was drifting.
*****
When I woke up the next morning, I rolled over expecting to see Theory who wasn’t there, so instead I reached for my phone which also wasn’t there. I sat up and looked around, still feeling a little disoriented, and then slid off the bed. Once I was on my feet, I grabbed the tank top and night shorts I dropped at the foot of the bed after Theory’s intruder left, dug through my bag for my toiletry kit, and then headed for the bathroom. The scent of Theory’s soap and cologne combined, was hanging in the air and made me smile. After I brushed my teeth, I turned on the shower and waited for steam to fill the bathroom before I got in. My mind was on last night. I smiled at how good it felt being with Theory again, but that was all clouded by his surprise visit from that Lani chick.
Thirty minutes later, I was dressed in leggings and a t-shirt hoodie and heading downstairs. I was hoping I left my phone in the theater room, even though I swore I had it upstairs with me before I had gone to bed.
After a quick search and still no phone, I made my way to the kitchen where I found Theory sitting at the kitchen table on the phone. He looked up and smiled when he noticed me, and when I chose to walk to the refrigerator instead of towards him, his voice filled the room.
“Hold up Niles, I know you see me over here right?” I turned in his direction but didn’t move.
“You were on the phone,” I said, and then focused on the refrigerator and its contents again.
“Yo, let me hit you right back.”
I smiled when I heard him because I knew he ended his call because of me. And sure enough, a few seconds later, I felt his presence behind me.
“So you can’t tell a nigga good morning and shit? Damn, that’s rude as fuck Rain.”
I grabbed the orange juice and then turned but couldn’t move, because Theory was blocking me. We were inches apart and he wore a smirk that had me fighting to control my smile.
“Good morning, and like I said, you were on the phone.” I tried to step around him but he grabbed me around the waist, before he took hold of the orange juice that was in my hand and set it on the counter. Once my hands were free, he pulled me into his body and leaned in so that our faces were inches apart.
