My bags are packed when Eric arrives in his car. I have permission to run up to the doctors' office, at seven-fifty a.m., to say goodbye.
Keats smiles as I come into his room.
'Ready?' he asks.
'What do you think?'
'I don't know.'
'Do you think I'll make it?'
'I hope so.'
'A soul that has been fractured can be entered.'
' Very nice.'
'Kung Fu. It was on television, last night.'
He laughs. He steps to me and kisses me on the cheek, holding on to my shoulders.
I miss him already.
I miss him so I put him inside, where my dream is, the constant water in light.
Then I run, out the door and down to the car where Eric is waiting, and suddenly we are gone.
