  “I kneaded your body.”

“I did notice you doing that,” she admitted. “When you said you were going to take me to your ‘place,’ you were so ratty that I figured you were taking me to a line shack. And I knew you would keep me there as a love slave.”

He nodded the entire time. “I very seriously considered it.

  And she got leaky-eyed.

It was a terrible, emotionally exhausting time before they finally were married. And that was done with skill and pomp and circumstance. Goldilocks knew exactly what all to do, and she cooked a wedding breakfast that was superb. She had help. She’d chosen those aides. She ruled.

  No one minded.

Their diverse relatives were not well acquainted with one another and within the year, three more weddings came from that encounter. It rather rattled both the Davie family and the Phillips’.

It’s always risky to get strangers together. No one ever knows what will happen. But that’s another story.

The two newlyweds honeymooned…in a line shack. She laughed and giggled and her eyes danced. If Kyle hadn’t already loved her then, he would have after that reaction.

And he’d brought along the pod. They opened it carefully to see what waited there for their edification. It contained the figures 5 times 5 equals ?

That pod was what she’d risked her life to retrieve. The very stupidity of it all caused them both to be thoughtful. Their eyes met, and they considered one another in serious regard.

That coupling had been as chancy and as unplanned as the damned pod.

How strange that one such foolish adventure had led them into yet another. They touched hands and considered each other with sober evaluation.

  Then they smiled.

They embraced with gentleness and relishing. They swam naked in the cattle watering hole. They rinsed off in the stored water.

They ate beans and bacon and the biscuits that Goldilocks had taught Lauren to make. They ate apples and oranges, and they did make love.

Ahhh, yes. The lovers did make love. And they laughed and teased and ran around naked.

It was the beginning of their long and interesting life. And their own children baffled and amazed and astonished them both in their close marriage that brimmed with love.
