Tuesday, 20th. Seven new T2 [sheets of second Turkish map] to hand in morning captured. Discussion as to what should be done with them as there was a disposition to try and deal with them [i.e. reproduce them] at G.H.Q. This was dropped. O. (Operations Branch) complained that the new map [Survey of Egypt 1:20,000 reproduction and transliteration of captured Turkish sheets] ignored or altered names on old (1:40,000 map) to which they had got accustomed, and made a point of the names on old map being retained, however wrong. At length it was agreed that only such old names as have got into common use (e.g. ATCHI BABA) should be retained, and correct names should be added in brackets …
