‘He took it with him. I’ve got the twin.’ Lottie was worried and disappointed. ‘But he was supposed to bring it back to me himself. ’
‘I’d never forget a promise to you, Mrs Harmon, honey,’ came a softer, quieter voice.
Lottie’s heart stopped then rose up to the heavens. ‘Nate?’
He appeared beside Herv, then took the stairs up to her three at a time. He swept her into his arms. ‘My ship docked at Bristol last evening and I travelled through the night to get here. I thought it would be a great surprise for you and the little guy. I’m sure he’ll know his daddy is here.’
Lottie kissed Nate, then put his hand on her tummy so Nate could feel the baby kicking. ‘I’m sure he does.’
Together they walked down the stairs. Keeping hold of Nate, Lottie linked her other arm through Jill’s. ‘Right then, let’s get this show on the road. Sister-in-law.’
