  The elder Creed staggered back under the force of the bullet, fell into the street on his back, in the exact opposite pose as his dead son.

  Clint ejected his spent shells and replaced them, walked over to the two fallen men, met the two lawmen there.

  “You satisfied, Sheriff Cox?” he asked.

  “I guess that’s as close as I’ll get to a confession,” Cox said. “I’m satisfied.”

  “You satisfied, Adams?” Barrett asked.

  “Me?” Clint asked. “No, Sheriff, I’m not satisfied at all. I never find killing a man satisfying. You got any objection to me leaving your town right now?”

  “Naw,” Sheriff Barrett said. “I don’t have any objection to that at all.”
