Some Guys Have All the Luck Page 32

by Deborah Cooke

  “Show me the way.”

Cassie grabbed his hand and his messenger bag, tugging him toward the elevator to the penthouse. She showed him which of his keys would make it work and caught a glimpse of Chynna outside her tattoo shop, watching them with a smile, just as the doors closed.

The heart in her tattoo seemed to give a little flutter then, but that might have been because Reid backed her into the corner and kissed her breathless.

They stumbled out of the elevator, laughing together, and Cassie gave a fingertip wave to the security camera. Reid unlocked the door to the apartment and stepped inside, his expression showing that he shared Cassie’s admiration. “It’s amazing.”

  “Can we afford it?”

“I sold the house for a great price,” Reid said, staring out at the city. “The developer wanted it and I didn’t need it.” He turned to wink at her. “But I drove a hard bargain, because I thought I might need to buy in a more expensive market.”

  “So, you’ll stay.”

“Only if you’ll have me.” He swallowed. “You see, my glass is half empty when you’re not around. I can only think of one thing to do about that.” Reid dropped to one knee in front of her and pulled a jewelry box from his coat pocket. He looked just a teeny bit uncertain of her reaction, which made Cassie only want to reassure him. “Marry me?”

“Yes!” She tackled him and they tumbled to the floor together, kissing as if they’d been parted for a decade instead of a few weeks.

They were half undressed when Reid held up his hand. “One last detail,” he insisted, then tapped out a text message. Cassie looked over his shoulder to see that he was sending it to Shayla, his buddy’s wife. It was just five words.

  Hope you have that hat.

He sent it then put his phone on the counter, turning back to Cassie with a grin. “We just invited our first guests to the wedding,” he said, then kissed her so thoroughly that she almost forgot her name.

  Thank you!
