She rose up on tiptoe and pressed her lips to his. It was a gentle kiss. Tender. Tentative.
A silent question.
When they pulled apart, he murmured the answer in his sultry, low voice, “I’m in love with you, Finley.”
“I knew that all along, too.” She slid her hands up his chest and anchored them around his neck. She didn’t want to stop touching him. Not now. Not ever. “I’m in love with you, too, Maxim Romanov. Take me to London with you. We can start over together. Just two nonroyals finding their way.”
He angled his head, pulled her close, and gazed down at her in mock solemnity. “But Mademoiselle Abbot, do you think you could love a regular man like me? Not a Romanov, but a man without a past?”
No one would ever know. It would be their secret. Always.
And that was just fine.
Finley’s lips curved into a smile. “I already do.”
