White Magic Woman Page 16

According to Simonia’s papino, there was no room for error, no room for a change of plan in the bargain she had with her evil master. As with anything evil, there are always consequences, and those were the consequences the witch had to pay.

Todd slowly got up from the bed and walked out the door. The witch changed the rhythm of her chanting, going faster and faster, as she tried to get him to remain in the house by the force of her voice. But without stopping, he began walking away from the door, counting each step as he went. When he had counted one hundred steps, he turned and looked to the right. The mortar was not there. He dare not look to the left because this would alert the witch that he was searching for something.

He was now trusting heavily on Simonia’s ability to carry this off, based on her papino’s directions about where the mortar would be.

Todd did not look in Simonia’s direction. He didn’t want to alert the witch to their plan. He hoped she had her eyes on him, and saw when he’d looked to the right, and didn’t spot the mortar.

He needn’t have worry. Simonia had remained outside and had begun moving slowly toward the mortar the minute she’d seen him stopped.

Reaching the mortar, Simonia couldn’t see what was inside, but she used the blade she had carried just for that purpose and cut the top off the bag of salt. She poured the entire bag of salt inside the mortar, and then, reaching inside, she tried to grab the skin. She was shaking so hard she had to try three times before she could fully grab hold of the skin. It had a slippery, slimy feel to it. Twice she almost gagged, but she was doing this for Todd. She had to do it right. Finally, she was able to rub the salt deep into it.

Meanwhile, the witch was so consumed with getting to Todd she was not aware of what was happening with her skin. The sight of Todd’s erection was driving her insane. She couldn’t stop trying to grab a hold of it. When it finally dawned on her that she was not going to have him this night, she screamed her frustration into the night and dashed over to the mortar to collect her skin.

Reaching it, she bent over and took it out as she chanted the magic words that would transport her back into her skin.

As the last chant was said and the skin adhered itself to her body, hell broke loose. The witch began screaming as pain racked her body. She tried to remove her skin with her bare hands, but it was well and truly in place. Once she had returned into her skin, there was no removing it without magic, and that magic was good for two tries, to remove and to replace—tiyam pa blium, sa matium te blium.

The screaming went on well into the night until it faded into nothing. The witch didn’t disguise her voice, so everyone could hear her screaming. But every sane person on the island knew to remain indoors when witches and evil spirits were out and about.

Todd and Simonia were the only sane people out and about as the witch shriveled up right in front their very eyes. She shriveled up until there was nothing left of her but a pile of ash, which a strong gust of wind blew away.

Nothing was free. There was always a price to pay when one interfered with the natural flow of life.

Simonia handed Todd his clothes, which he put on, and hand in hand, they walked back to the old house where it all begun.

They would have to spend the night there. The distance was too great to walk back to their rented home. However, given the fact that Todd was still as hard and as stiff as a board, they thought it was too good an opportunity to pass up, so they made love until the rosy fingers of dawn marked the beginning of a new day.

Little did they know that the new moon would impact their lives forever.

  EPILOGUE

Simonia would never look at the new moon the same way again. She lay naked on the bed, gazing out at the new moon through the window. It always amazed her how the moon appeared different depending on the part of the world one was in. In the Caribbean, the moon was huge in all its phases.

She very quickly forgot about the size of the moon as Todd begun rubbing her body with the mixture of the oils they’d used on his body to repel the witch. That oil had the exact opposite effect on them. It was almost like a sexual stimulant, as if they needed any help in that department.

That oil featured large in their last days on the island. She and Todd had developed a particular fondness for the oil.

She and Todd had used the oils so much during their last few days in St. Lucia that, when she became pregnant, the baby seemed to have a fondness for the oil also. It would move about rapidly in her stomach until Todd rubbed her belly with the mixture.

She was five months pregnant, and the oil was still able to send her into a sexual frenzy. Todd loved it. He loved it when she was reduced to a panting fool and only he could bring her release. Now that she was pregnant, her breasts had grown two sizes larger. She thought Todd would have an orgasm when he first saw how much bigger they had gotten. She had to stop him from constantly fooling around with her breasts. He’d loved them before. Now he was obsessed with them. He had already informed her that, when the baby was born, she would suckle on one breast, while he, Todd was on the other. She had yet to disabuse him of the idea, but it wasn’t happening.

The baby was in her element. The more Todd rubbed the oils, the more rapidly she moved. She was moving furiously inside her, but as soon as her father’s hands settled on the location where she was moving in her belly, the movements stopped immediately. It was as if she recognized Todd’s touch and was vying for his attention. Hence the reason both she and Todd agreed the baby was a girl, but they didn’t want to take the ultrasound to find out. They wanted to wait to be surprised.

She had conceived the same night of the new moon after Todd had destroyed the witch. His body had been covered in the ritual oil, and she’d had this overwhelming urge to lick every drop off him. And he had let her. When she was done, most of the oil that had coated his body was gone, and they had fallen on each other like two savage animals, making love until the sun was breaking over the horizon.

They’d been addicted to the ritual oil ever since, and being back in New South Wales, they had to have it sent to them by Dr. Harmon. So, they were never without a fresh supply. They were in danger of running out of the herbs her papino had given to Todd, and when they asked him for a fresh supply, he had flat-out refused. Dr. Harmon too was curious about their use of the oil. But when she expressed her curiosity as to the use, Todd had told her it was for an experiment he was working on. They were working on their own brand of magic—love.

He’d been living as a recluse for too many years to remember. The sorcerer in question, Jean Louis, had long ago withdrawn from society. He lived near the graveyard in his hometown in the village of Soufriere, on the island of St. Lucia.

Occasionally, out of necessity, he was forced to venture into the town to pick up supplies. On one of his rare visits to the town, he was standing at the bus stop when he saw the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen. He couldn’t stop looking at her. He kept looking, and just then, a tall man came out of the store to stand next to her. It appeared she had been waiting for him. He took her hand in his, and they began walking away from him. He couldn’t take his eyes away from her. He was looking at her so that he could memorize everything about her. It was then he noticed the wedding ring on her finger. Hell, he thought to himself, she’s married. Unfortunately, that didn’t deter him. If anything he became more obsessed with desire for the beautiful, young married woman.

He was so obsessed that he had taken to going into the town more frequently, in the hope of catching a glimpse of her. The next new moon, at the stroke of midnight, the sorcerer performed an ancient ritual that allowed him to leave his body in the form of an evil spirit, and he went searching for the young woman. His laughter could be heard on the night air as he found her home.

&nb
sp; Unseen and unheard by any of the neighbors, the evil spirit made its way to the door of the woman’s house. It stood in the dark watching the home until it was almost daylight and it was forced to leave. It had to find a way into the home, so it returned night after night, knowing it would get an opportunity and then she would belong to him exclusively.

The evil spirit’s opportunity came at the next new moon. The husband and wife had gone out and were returning home late. The evil spirit was rejoicing; it had known its patience would pay off. It positioned itself right behind the husband, who walked into his house after his wife, and the evil spirit followed right behind him.

It stood in the bedroom observing the couple until the husband lay down next to his wife. Then the evil spirit blew magic dust onto the husband’s face, causing him to fall into a deep sleep, one that seemed more like a coma or death than ordinary sleep. The evil spirit then took the woman, bewitched her with a spell, and had sex with her until just before the dawn. Before the sun arose, the evil spirit took leave of the house and returned to its home near the graveyard and into the body of the sorcerer.

Both husband and wife awoke shortly after dawn. Neither remembered anything of the night before. The woman, however, felt drawn and ill at ease and was troubled by a deep scratch on her thigh that itched and burned.
