  Geraldine McCaughrean

  Geraldine McCaughrean has written about 170 books and had far too much fun ever to call writing a job. She has been published in forty-one languages, writes for every age level, and her awards include the Carnegie Medal and Whitbread Prizes.

  As well as twenty or so novels, she has done many retellings of myths and legends, and hard-to-read classics. She has also written plays for schools, theatre and radio.

  Born in 1951 in North London, she worked in magazine publishing for ten years before becoming a full-time writer. She now lives in Berkshire with her husband. Visit her at geraldinemccaughrean.co.uk.

  Lauren St John

  Lauren St John grew up on a farm and game reserve in Zimbabwe, where she had a pet giraffe, two warthogs, six cats, eight dogs and eight horses, the inspiration for her memoir, Rainbow’s End, and bestselling White Giraffe and One Dollar Horse books.

  When she isn’t helping the Born Free Foundation save leopards and dolphins, she loves travelling, boxing and dreaming up mysteries. The Secret of Supernatural Creek, the fifth in her Blue Peter award-winning Laura Marlin Mystery series, will be out in September 2017.   Piers Torday

  Piers Torday’s bestselling first book, The Last Wild, was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Award and nominated for the CILIP Carnegie Medal, as well as numerous other awards. His second book, The Dark Wild, won the Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize 2014. The third book in the trilogy, The Wild Beyond, was published to critical acclaim in 2015. He recently completed his later father Paul Torday’s final book, The Death of an Owl. His next book for children, There May Be A Castle, published in October 2016.   Katherine Woodfine

  Katherine Woodfine was born in Lancashire, and grew up reading a lot of books and writing endless stories. Until 2015 she worked for literature charity Book Trust as a children’s books specialist and project manager of the Children’s Laureate, working with leading children’s authors such as Malorie Blackman, Julia Donaldson and Chris Riddell. She is also part of the founding team behind Down the Rabbit Hole, a monthly show on arts radio station Resonance 104.4FM about children’s literature.
