“Nakia,” Buck repeated like the thought alone was farfetched.
“Yeah nigga, Nakia. Don’t try to play dumb. My wife already told me what’s up.”
“Man, you and Rylee pillow talk too damn much.”
“So what, y’all together now?” Zyrian inquired.
“Nah man, she’s on some bullshit about being my rebound. It’s not even like that with me,” Buck answered.
“Nakia is good people. I think y’all can make that work,” Zyrian replied.
“I think so too. She just gotta stop second guessing every damn thing,” Buck argued.
Zyrian nodded his head in understanding. He felt like that at one time himself. That’s what took him so long to make things official with Rylee. He had to make sure he wasn’t the man that she was trying to use to get over Mekhi. Buck and Asia had just separated, so he understood Nakia’s reservations.
“Oh shit,” Dedy and some of her girls yelled loudly when the DJ played Rhianna’s hit song Work.
In true hoe fashion, they all sat their drinks down and started dancing and twerking hips and asses. Zyrian was very happily married, but he stood next to his cousins and watched the free show that they were putting on. He knew not to touch, but there was no harm in looking. When Dedy saw that he was watching her, she worked extra hard to keep his attention focused on her. She’d said a while ago that she was over whatever they had in the past, but that was the furthest thing from the truth. Zyrian had a place in her heart that no other man could replace. He was the first man to really take care of her and show her real love. She couldn’t just forget about that, and she wasn’t.
“Chill out Dedy,” Zyrian said when she came closer and started dancing on him. She had her ass right on his crotch area, trying to make his man down below come to life.
“I used to dance on you all the time. What’s the problem now?” She asked while looking back at him with a smirk.
“You already know what the problem is. I’m a married man now,” Zyrian replied as he took a sip of his drink.
Dedy noticed that he never made a move to stop her, so she kept right on dancing. She moved back a little closer and made sure that he felt her as she dipped and gyrated to the music. Grim and Snake were getting the same treatment from her friends while Buck stood back and watched. None of them noticed when Rylee crept up behind them until she punched Zyrian in the back of his head.
“What the fuck!” Zyrian yelled as he grabbed the back of his head where he’s been hit. He roughly pushed Dedy away from him, ready to lay somebody the fuck out. He thought for sure a nigga had hit him until he turned around and came face to face with his wife.
“Nah nigga, don’t stop on my account. You been letting that hoe dance on you. Don’t stop now,” Rylee fumed as her nostrils flared angrily.
“Calm down baby, it ain’t even like that,” Zyrian said as he tried to pull her to him.
“Don’t touch me! If she’s what you want, you got it. I’m done,” Rylee yelled as she tried to walk away.
“The fuck you mean you’re done? Don’t play with me Rylee. Come here and talk to me,” Zyrian said as he pulled her back.
Rylee was enraged when he stopped her, and she turned around swinging. Zyra, Amber, and Nakia were with her, but none of them tried to stop her. Zyrian was way taller than her, but Rylee was tearing his face and chest up. He tried to grab her arms, but then she started kicking him. Things only got worse when the DJ stopped the music. Everybody was able to hear what was going on, and a small crowd had formed around them in no time.
“Baby chill. Look at all these people looking at us,” Zyrian yelled.
“I don’t give a fuck!” Rylee yelled back as she continued to assault her husband. Her father-in-law and his brothers came rushing over, and they were the only ones who were able to intervene.
“What the hell is going on here?” Zach yelled as he stood in between his son and his wife.
“I’m leaving. Me and my kids will be out of your house tonight,” Rylee swore as she tried to leave again.
“You must be out of your muthafucking mind!” Zyrian bellowed as he tried to get close to her.
“Oh hell no. Don’t y’all drag my grandbabies into this. What the fuck happened?” Zach asked while grabbing Rylee’s arm and looking to her and Zyrian for answers.
“This is not the time or the place for this Rylee. Let’s go outside and talk,” Zyrian pleaded.
“Go outside and talk to the bitch that you had dancing on you. I don’t have shit to say to you,” Rylee yelled.
“Shay, Dedy or whatever you want to call me is fine, but I’m nobody’s bitch or hoe,” Dedy replied.
“Get that hoe next Rylee,” Grim instigated.
“Fuck her!” Rylee yelled angrily.
“And fuck you too!” Dedy yelled back.
She and Rylee weren’t that close to each other, but Grim fixed that problem quickly. He went behind Dedy and pushed her into Rylee, and it was over with from there. Rylee thought that the other woman was trying to hit her, so she turned around and jabbed Dedy in the face with a right hook that had her dizzy for a minute. The crowd went crazy once they started fighting and Zach was livid. He had his brothers and the security guards to start emptying the club out while he tried to get his son and daughter-in-law under control. Amber, Nakia, and Zyra got shuffled along in the crowd, but Zyrian’s eyes were glued to his wife. He was pushing people out of his way trying to get to her, and Dedy’s girls were doing the same. Rylee was beating the dog shit out of Dedy, and her girls were trying to help her out. They almost succeeded until Zyrian and his cousins stepped in.
“Y’all got me fucked up if y’all think y’all about to jump my wife,” Zyrian yelled as he slung all four women who Dedy had arrived with to the side. His cousins ushered them towards the front door and away from the fight.
“Get your wife while I try to get this shit under control,” Zach yelled to his son.
The grand opening of the bar was sure to be talked about for months to come. They were tearing the place up, and they had only been opened for a few hours. Zyrian and Rylee had never behaved like they were doing and he didn’t know why. Aside from a petty argument or two, they were very happily married. It broke his heart to hear his daughter-in-law say that she was leaving. He prayed that things between the two of them weren’t that bad. They were just happily in love the day before.
“Get off of me!” Rylee screamed when her husband grabbed her.
He had a tight grip around her waist as he carried her away. Dedy was screaming obscenities in the background, but somebody from the crowd was holding her back. As bad as Rylee beat her ass, she should have remained quiet. The top of her jumper was completely ripped off of her leaving her breast exposed.
“Baby, please calm down. I can’t believe you out here acting a fool like this,” Zyrian fussed once he and Rylee were out front.
The parking lot was filled with people walking to their cars to leave. He spotted his sister and their cousins walking their way and he wasn’t for any of them at the moment. He needed to talk to his wife in peace without the added distractions.
“You can’t believe me!” Rylee screamed. “You were the one who had your ex-bitch dancing on you. Bitch got her ass all in your face and shit.”
“It wasn’t even like that man,” Zyrian kept repeating.
“How was it then because we watched you for a while before we came over there? You didn’t tell her ass to move not one time. You can have it, though. I went through this shit once before. I’ll be damned if I go through it again.”
“That’s your fucking problem now. You always wanna compare me to that other nigga. I’m not Mekhi. I would never cheat on you, and you know that shit,” Zyrian fumed.
“I thought I knew it, but you had me fooled,” Rylee said right as her girls walked up.
“Come on Rylee. Don’t cause another scene. Let me bring you home,” Nakia suggested.
“Nah, she’s riding with me,
” Zyrian replied for her.
“I wish I would ride anywhere with your ass. The next time you see me will be in divorce court,” Rylee said enraging her husband.
She hurriedly moved away when Zyrian tried to grab her. Thank God for his cousins standing there because he went berserk when Rylee mentioned divorce. It took all three of them to hold him back from getting to her.
“Get the fuck off of me! You playing with me Rylee!” Zyrian yelled.
“Bitch are you nuts? Why would you tell his crazy ass something like that?” Zyra asked while pulling her sister-in-law away to Nakia’s car.
“I can’t stand that bastard,” Rylee frowned as she got into her cousin’s car and they pulled off.
“I can’t believe how this night turned out,” Nakia sighed.
“I know. I’m glad I didn’t go with Derrick to meet his father’s side of the family. I would have missed out on all the action. I can’t wait to tell him about all that happened,” Amber said excitedly.
“Where to now?” Nakia asked.
“Anywhere, but home,” Rylee replied as she stared out of the window.
She was feeling a mixture of emotions, but anger was taking a front seat to them all. Her heart wouldn’t let her believe that Zyrian was cheating on her, but her eyes were a different story. Seeing his ex all up on him like that had her doubting the trust that she once had for him.
“Jeremy told me about a club that he and some of his friends went to once before. It’s a little small hole in the wall, but he said that the drinks are good,” Zyra spoke up.
“What’s the address? I can use a drink or ten right about now,” Rylee replied.
She reclined her seat back as Zyra called out the address to Nakia. Her phone was going crazy in her purse, and she knew that it was Zyrian calling. Rylee knew that they had to have a talk, but she wasn’t in the mood to do it at the moment. Once her phone stopped ringing, Rylee powered it off and tried to put the events of the night behind her if only for a little while.
Chapter 19
“Fuck!” Zyrian yelled as he pounded his fist on the island in his kitchen.
It had been over an hour since he and Rylee got into it and she hadn’t made it home yet. He tried calling her phone, but she turned it off. His sister and her cousins didn’t answer because Rylee probably told them not to. Needless to say, their grand opening was a disaster, and they didn’t make half of what his father expected them to. They shut it down around nine o’clock, and most people don’t even leave home that early. His pops was pissed, but he really didn’t give a damn. He was happy that his parents took the twins home with them because he and Rylee needed to have a serious talk. Zyrian would be the first to admit that he was wrong, but he would go to his grave before he let Rylee divorce him over something so minimal. He should have pushed Dedy’s trifling ass away from him, but he didn’t think that his wife would be there. He was happy that his cousins had decided to chill with him for a while. He probably would have went crazy if he was home alone.
“Can’t you track her phone?” Buck asked him.
“She turned the bitch off,” Zyrian fumed.
“Hold up, let me see if I can track Nakia’s,” he suggested.
“Nigga, you and Nakia, fucking now or something,” Grim asked. “You been saying her name a lot lately.”
“Mind your business,” Buck said while flipping his brother off. He continued playing on his phone trying to see if he could help his cousin out.
“What you got?” Zyrian asked when he saw the frown that appeared on Buck’s face.
“If she’s still with Nakia then they’re in the hood,” Buck replied.
“In what hood?” Snake said as he sat up in his chair.
“Looks like they’re close to the projects,” he replied.
“That can’t be right. Let me try to track Zyra’s phone,” Zyrian said as he picked his phone up from the counter.
Once the information popped up on his screen, he and Buck compared the locations.
“What the fuck are they doing in that area?” Zyrian yelled.
“Only one way to find out,” Snake replied as he stood up and checked the piece that he kept in his waist and the one that was strapped to his ankle.
Zyrian grabbed his heat and locked up his house before following his cousins to Snake’s truck. He didn’t know what Rylee was on, but he was damn sure about to find out.
***
“Get it, Rylee,” Nakia laughed as she teased her cousin.
They were at the club that Zyra told them about having a few drinks. Nakia, Zyra, and Amber sat on the bar stools while Rylee looked over the balcony at the people on the bottom level. The club was small, but it was filled to capacity. It looked better inside than it did out and the girls were enjoying themselves. They turned down several men who tried to get with them, but they didn’t turn down any drinks. None of them had pulled out a dollar since they’d been there, but their glasses stayed full.
“Shut up Nakia. You know I can’t dance,” Rylee said as she swayed along to the beat. That was about the only thing that she could do too. She had rhythm, but she couldn’t dance for shit. Nobody had to tell her that, she already knew.
“This is a nice lil spot to come to when we just wanna get away. Don’t tell nobody about it. That way we can meet up here for drinks whenever we want to without getting interrupted,” Zyra suggested.
“That’s a good idea,” Rylee agreed.
“I wish some of these people go back downstairs, though. It’s getting kind of crowded up here,” Nakia frowned.
When they first arrived, there were only a handful of people up there. Now that amount had more than tripled, and they hadn’t been there very long. Rylee was doing good holding down her spot by the balcony because that’s where everybody seemed to be going.
“Oh shit. Come see Zyra,” Rylee said calling her sister-in-law over.
She was tickled about something, so all of the women came over to see what she wanted. They all laughed with her when they looked down and saw Tommy standing near the bar talking to a woman.
“What is his ass doing in here? He don’t even drink like talking about it,” Zyra chuckled.
“Ole girl probably dragged him in here,” Rylee replied.
“She’s cute too. If I was still into girls I would have taken her from him,” Zyra said making the other women laugh.
They all continued to stand there and watch Tommy and his female companion move around the club. When Rylee felt a pair of arms wrap around her waist she screamed, causing the rest of them to turn around.
“I thought I was tripping when I saw you walk in, but today must be my lucky day,” Mekhi whispered into his ex-wife’s ear. He had Rylee pinned up against the balcony and she couldn’t move although she tried hard to.
“Mekhi get your nasty ass hands off of me,” Rylee yelled.
She cringed when she felt his hot, stale breath on her neck. Big Moe was on a break, so Mekhi usually watched the front doors from the cameras in his office until he returned. He had to do a double-take when he saw Rylee and her crew walking in. She looked good enough to eat in her tight fitting bandage dress and strappy heels. All the love that Mekhi once had for her came rushing back as soon as he laid eyes on her. Rylee was once his soul mate, and he hated to be without her. He hated that they weren’t together, but that was his own fault. In his mind, Mekhi knew that he could never be faithful to just one woman. Maybe being single was the best thing for him. He just hated that he lost Rylee to another man. That hurt more than her actually leaving him. He hated losing, but he hated Zyrian more than anything because he had Rylee.
“You’re standing in my club, but you don’t want me to touch you,” he smirked.
“Your club?” Zyra yelled.
“That’s what I said,” Mekhi snapped in irritation. He still hated Zyra’s nosey ass, and that would never change. She had a hand in Rylee leaving him, and no one could tell him otherwise. She wanted Rylee with her brothe
r, and she made sure that it happened.
“Ugh, so that’s why Tommy’s ass is here. It’s time for us to go. We can have drinks somewhere else,” Zyra said as she walked away. Amber and Nakia followed her, but Mekhi still had a death grip around Rylee’s waist.
“I see you and your man finally got MJ’s up and running,” he said with a devious smile plastered on his face.
“The name is Rylee’s, not MJ’s. And yes we did even though you tried to stop it. Paying somebody for us to fail inspection is a new low even for you,” Rylee snapped.
“Damn you look good. You smell good enough to eat,” Mekhi flirted as he continued to whisper in her ear. He ignored her comment, but he wondered how she found out about what he’d done. Big Moe’s connect seemed to have dropped off the face of the earth. She must have passed the bar eventually because Zyrian and Rylee’s place was up and running now. At least that was what Mekhi had heard.
“Nigga get your hands off of my friend,” Zyra yelled.
“Or what?” Mekhi snapped menacingly.
“Or I’m bout to whoop your muthafucking ass nigga,” Zyrian said as he and his cousins seemingly appeared out of thin air.
Mekhi immediately loosened his grip on Rylee and watched as she moved over to where Zyra and her cousins were standing. Mekhi could have killed Big Moe for not being there when he really needed him. Of all the days to be late coming back from his break he chose that particular day. Mekhi was clearly outnumbered, but he wasn’t about to get punked in his own club. He had four niggas staring at him with murder in their eyes, but he refused to back down.
“You ain’t whooping shit in here homeboy. This is my club just in case you didn’t know it. Your wife came to me,” Mekhi smirked just before Zyrian’s fist connected with his face.
He was prepared this time, unlike the time before. He stumbled a little, but he regained his composure and started swinging back. He and Zyrian locked up and were going blow for blow for a little while. That didn’t last very long because he got winded and lost his footing after a little while. Mekhi was never a fighter because he never had to be. He tried to get along with everyone to avoid situations like the one he was in. Zyrian had him beat by weight and height, so that didn’t help much either. Rylee was yelling for her husband to stop and Mekhi was praying that he heard her. Some people were standing around watching while others ran for the door.
