“Is it good for you baby?”

“It is.” I breathed out through my mouth because the climax was nearing. She bit my neck and I gave into the impulses.

I fell to the bed and out of nowhere she cuddled right next to me.

“It was good for me too,” She told me.

“Okay.” I was still catching my breath but then she said something that made me feel like I couldn’t breathe at all.

“So when are you going to make it to the pros so you can buy me nice things?”

“You’re joking, right?”I laughed but she was so serious.

“No, you know that I’m a beautiful woman…”

  “Right…”

“And you know that I’ll be by your side no matter what.”

“I know that? How do I know that?”

  It was silent between us.

“I’m sure you have seen the basketball wives in the pros. I can be that for you.”

When I saw that she was serious, I sat up and then later left. My father warned me of gold diggers, but when I actually faced with one, I was shocked. Another winning game later and I was approached by other cheerleaders. It didn’t take long for them to have their sights set on me, but it took that one cheerleader for me to just avoid them all.

“Did you just seriously tell me about your sex life?” She laughed as we walked by an empty playground. It was night now and close to midnight. I was going to let her go in her dorm, but once I started the story, we just started walking around. I didn’t really have to worry for curfew for myself because they were always more lenient on the players.

“I didn’t mean to tell you, but once I started, I couldn’t stop,” I confessed.

We sat on the bench that was in the playground. We were quiet at first. It wasn’t a weird silence, it just felt right. Out of nowhere she put her head on my lap and looked up at me. She had the most beautiful lips. I leaned over and kissed her. They were so soft and it wasn’t long before I felt the blood rushing to the head down there.

My hands started to explore her body. I grabbed one of her breasts and almost expected her to push away, but she when she put her hand over mine and let me squeeze it, I just continued. I would squeeze it and soon, I felt her hard nipple through her bra. Without thinking, I leaned forward and kissed her chest. Then I leaned forward and took her breast out of the jumpsuit and bra. I licked her nipples and sucked on them a little bit. She moaned and bit her lips. She looked right at me and I went to give the same attention to her other breast.

We were in the park but it was like we got carried her away. I kissed her breasts and licked them. I heard her moan and she made sounds of pleasure. Luckily, we were alone in the playground or else someone would have definitely heard us. My hands roamed her body some more and tried to go between her legs. I just wanted to see if I could feel how moist she was, but her hand stopped me.

“Uh uh.” I heard her say between moans. “Not yet.” I moved my hands respecting her wishes.

Simone got up and sat on my lap. I didn’t mind her weight at all. I just put my hands on her round ass and squeezed. She bit her bottom lip and started to move her hips in a circle. I was more than aroused as she dry rode me in the playground. I wanted her so badly. I moved her curly hair to the side and bit her neck. She grabbed my face by my chin. Her nails dug slightly into my face but even that turned me on. She still was biting her lip, but then she pulled me close and kissed me. When she moved away from the kiss, she bit my bottom lip...hard.

“You want to go back to my room?” I asked her.

“Yup.” She nodded. I began to move but she shook her head no. “But I’m not going to.”

“What?” I was confused and hard, which is really a horrible combination.

“I like you and I want you but I’m not having sex with just anybody.”

“I’m not just anybody, I’m me.” I smiled.

“Well as flattering as that is for you,” She was laughing, “it is not enough for me. If I’m going to have sex with someone, he’s going to be my boyfriend. And I don’t sleep with someone that quickly.”

  “How long does it take?”

“You want to mark it on your calendar or something?” She joked.

“No, I’m just curious,” I confessed. “How long would it take before a guy is your boyfriend.

  “90 days,” She told me.

I threw my head back and laughed. I swear I heard other guys complain about this all the time. Is there some sort of Oprah or Beyonce rule out there for females that we don’t know about? I’ve heard dudes say this but I never thought it would happen to me because I’m an athlete. It’s almost like the same rules don’t apply to us.

“So 90 days?” I asked. “A guy has to wait 90 days before he can have sex with you?”

“Not any random guy, my boyfriend.” She corrected me. I nodded my head slowly. “I’m sorry Benny, I’m not a cheerleader.” She winked.

“I wouldn’t still be here if you were,” I told her and she smiled wider. “But getting back to the topic, I can respect that. I can respect you for that.”

  “Could you do it?”

“Wait 90 days to have sex with you?”

“Yeah?” Her eyes asked the question and I automatically nodded my head. “You do know that means that you can’t have sex with other girls.”

“Really?” My eyes opened wide. “So 90 days of sex with no one else but you?”

“Yes, can you handle that?” Her eyebrows arched.

I thought about it. I was so use to girls giving me everything that I wanted. It was off that a girl told me to wait, or even date her. These women would usually let me have sex with them and then I could get back to my mission.

“Okay, I think I can wait three months,” I said. “I think you’re worth it.”

“Trust me, I’ll make it worth the wait.”

It was game night. The score was tied and we were on the final quarter. I had the ball in my hand and I heard the Coach screaming to take a timeout. I told the ref and then handed him the ball.

“I know you guys are tired. This team wants us to continue our two game losing streak, but like I told you earlier, we are having no more losses.” We all nodded our heads with our hands resting against our knees.

“This is our house,” he told us. “Look around.” We didn’t move. “Look around,” he emphasized, “We are NOT going to to be embarrassed in our house! We are going to win this game and we are going to keep winning games until we get to the playoffs. Is that understood?”

  “Yes Coach!” we all shouted.

“Now end it with ‘our house’ on three,” we all put our hands in, “1, 2, 3, “

  “OUR HOUSE!”

The timeout was over and we were out on the floor. Aaron gave me a nod as I held the basketball on the outside of the court. I gave him a nod back and then wiped the sweat from my forehead with the back of my hand. I threw the ball into the court to a fellow teammate. When I got out there, I already had two people on me. My teammate was trying to get the ball to me but I was blocked. He tried to get it over to Aaron, but he was blocked as well.

“Cinderella defense!” I yelled to my teammates. Then two of them came and got the two guys off of me by blocking them. The ball was then freed up to me and then I made the three point shot.

The crowd was cheering as we started to make more shots. We weren’t playing half tired anymore, now we were playing smart. We were actually using the plays that the Coach was coming up with. Whenever one of the players got tied up, we came to his rescue. Now we were up by ten points. There was one minute remaining in the game. The team kept trying to foul to see if they could tie up the game, but they kept fouling me or Aaron. The problem with fouling us was that we always made our shots, so it only helped us with our lead. Finally, the buzzer went off and we broke the slump.

We were screaming and cheering in the locker room. We sat on the benches as the Coach came out to us. He walked in with
a sour look on his face. It was like he didn’t care about this win. He just looked as disappointed as he always did when we use to lose.

“You guys...played...like you were gods amongst men. You were actually listening to what I’ve been saying and how surprising was it that it actually worked. How did it feel to be out there?”

“Good,” I mumbled. I put the towel across my face and leaned back onto a locker. “It was real good Coach.”

“And I’m seeing how you guys are playing and it looks good.” He went on. “It looks really professional.”

“Oh really.” Aaron said but you could tell he wasn’t interested and to be honest, none of us really were. We were all so tired from the game.

“Yeah and I wasn’t the only one that thought so. There was an NBA scout out there.”

And that’s all it took for all of us to pay attention.

“Oh, it’s nice to know that you guys are listening. I heard that there was an NBA scout out there.” He repeated to us.

“Do you know what team?” I asked.

“Is it a team back on the East Coast?” Another player asked.

“Or is it a team from the South?” Dwayne, another teammate, asked. He was from North Carolina and he couldn’t wait to get back.

“Listen!” the Coach cut off the chatter. “I don’t know where he’s from but he is coming to our game next week.” We all breathed a sigh of relief. “So we are going to be practicing and going to win this next game,” he told us, “because for all we know, one of you guy in here could be an NBA draft pick.” He left the room.

We all started to depart and it was only Aaron and I left in the room. We were quiet but I finally broke the ice.

“You know what this means?” Aaron asked. “It could be you or me.” He smiled

“Nah, I don’t even want to get like that.”

“Come on.” He sat next to me. “I’m not trying to say that the other players on the team ain’t good, but come on, even you have to admit that they are not as good as us.” He poked me with his elbow, “We are the best two. That is why that we are the only two freshmen in the starting five. We have earned this right and it only makes sense that one of us gets drafted.”

  “You sound so confident.”

“Man, isn’t this your plan? Your plan was to come here, get drafted, and make the money. Listen if it’s not you getting drafted we know it’s going to be me. Who is it going to be? It’s not going to be Dwayne.” We both laughed.

Dwayne Gilbert was a pretty decent player. He was a junior and he played the center position. he would make his shot, but his biggest problem is that he didn’t know how to play under pressure. Every time the game got rough he would just miss most of his shots.

“Dwayne is alright, but I can’t have him making us look bad,” Aaron said out of nowhere.

“I agree with you on that, but what do we do?”

“We take him and help him out,” Aaron said.

“But he’s not going to listen to two freshmen.”

“He is if he wants to impress the scout.” He smiled and I just knew something bad was going through his head.

“Why am I afraid?” I asked out loud. “What are you coming up with? I thought you said that the scout was coming to draft us.”

“He is going to draft one of us or maybe both of us. We just can’t have Dwayne making the team look bad. If the team looks good, then we are going to look even better.”

  *****

“Come on Dwayne, we are all trying to get drafted here,” Aaron told him after the last practice before the game. “You can’t just blow us off again. We’ve been trying to get you to play with us for days now.”

“Man, I’m tired and I want to go back to my dorm and sleep.” Dwayne was about to leave when I jumped in.

“Don’t you want to make it. Don’t you want to be in the NBA?” I asked him.

“Who doesn’t?” Dwayne turned around. “But I also want to rest. I got to keep my grades up and I have a big test coming up.” He schooled us.

“I have no problem with that. We all know that midterms are here and pretty soon finals will be right around the corner, but what we are talking about is just as important as your studies. We have this big game-”

“Look, I know that you two care about the NBA and truthfully we all do, but I know that there is more to college than basketball, I’m trying to become a doctor.”

Aaron and I exchanged looks. I didn’t want to say anything at all but Aaron wasn’t quite as silent as me. Aaron just busted out laughing.

“I ain’t never met a doctor that could change the light bulb in his own office without using a ladder.” He joked I laughed but stopped when I saw he wasn’t laughing.

“I’m serious.” He walked towards us. “I might dream about being in the NBA but I know that’s not going to happen no time soon. I need to be practical. I’m going to go to medical school and do what I have to do to secure my future. You guys can dream if you want, but I’m not going to waste my time here. I already know what you guys are going to say. You guys want to talk about the fact that I choke.” Aaron and I looked at each other again.

“You don’t think I know what people say about me? You know how the crowd gets. They scream that shit while you’re playing and then expect you to win. I don’t want to deal wit that shit for the rest of my life. Maybe you guys want to deal wit it because you are only thinking of the money and fame, but I’ll be fine being a doctor.”

He was on his way out when Aaron stopped him.

“You know what? You’re right. You’re absolutely right. We can’t rely all on basketball to get us out.” I looked at Aaron like he was crazy after he said those words. “But Dwayne, in those same respects, you can’t rely all on medicine either. You have to look your best because this could be your shot.” He smiled at him but because I know Aaron, I knew his smile wasn’t genuine. Dwayne looked like he was believing it and then he just gave in.

  “Fine, what do we do?”

Then I jumped in. I went over tricks and exercises my father did with me when I use to get nervous. I told him how he had to block everything out and stop thinking about the importance and just play. Finally, he it looked like he was starting to get it. He was making his shot and he was playing with more confidence.

“Can I go now?” He whined as the basketball fell from the hoop. “I’m so over this.”

“Sure you can go.” I took the ball and Aaron and I watched him leave.

“Now that you have him playing better let’s hope those tricks you taught him work because the game is tomorrow.”

  “I know.” I nodded.

“And we have to get drafted.”

I looked over at my friend and he looked at me.

“You know if you get drafted before me, I wouldn’t mind,” I told him truthfully because as much as Aaron partied, he took the game very seriously.

“That’s deep.” He patted my back. “I wish I could say the same as you, but I would be lying if I didn’t say that I wouldn’t be mad if you got drafted before me.” He joked.

  “Oh God.”

“First of all. I’m prettier than you.” He joked and we went to the locker room.

It was game day and I was excited. I took a peek out into the court and I saw Simone sitting there. As always she looked great. She saw me looking at her and she smiled. She was wearing this white dress and sandals.

“You out here looking at her when we got a game to get ready for.” Aaron slapped me behind the head. I was about to say something but I couldn't deny that he was right just a little bit. I like Simone, but as much as I like her, I can’t let her distract me from the reason why I came to college; especially not tonight. I am here to get drafted and there is a scout tonight.

  “You’re right,” I admitted.

“You’re ready to do this?” He held his hand out.

  “I’m so ready.”

The game was going better than we ever planned. I always thought that
Aaron and I made a great team, but now with Dwayne in the mix, we were even better. Not only were we in the lead but neither Dwayne, Aaron, or I ever missed a point. We were stealing passes, making shots, and the crowd was going crazy. I would glimpse in the stands and saw Simone smiling. She would wave and I would nod back as I made the shot. It was nice to have her there, but besides impressing her, I wanted to know if I was impressing the scout.

Half time came and the cheerleaders ran out to the floor. I guzzled down some Gatorade and I felt someone tapping me. I smelled her sweet perfume before I even turned around. Simone threw a towel in my face.

“Hey, how did you get down here?” I asked her. “No one is suppose to be this close to the players without buying floor seats.”

“You can take that up with your friend.” She nudged her head towards Aaron. I turned to see him smiling at me at the other end of the seats. For all that grief he gave me about looking at her, he didn’t hesitate to help me.

“That was nice to him.” I gave him a slick look. “I can’t talk for long though because the Coach is going to round us up for us to go over the plays.”

“How sporty.” She smiled. “But I just came down here to wish you good luck.”

“That’s sweet.” I stuck my tongue out. “Let me find out that you have a soft side.”

“It’s going to take you 90 days to get to my,” She leaned in and whispered in my ear, “soft side.” She winked and then got up.

The Coach called us all in together and we went over the plays. Half time was almost over. We were looking all over the place trying to see if we could spot the scout.

“Is this boring to you guys?” The Coach asked out of nowhere. “Why aren’t you guys listening to me?” He sighed. “Let me guess, all of you are out there looking for the scout.” We nodded and he shook his head. “I suppose it’s my fault, I shouldn't have shared it with you guys. You are all playing well, but I need you guys to be focused on the game.”

“I’m not going to lie to you, if I don’t see the scout, I’m probably going to be looking for him all evening.”

“Fine, I’m going to tell you where he is.” All of us players leaned in. He’s sitting over there in the third row up. Right over there.” He pointed over and we saw this guy with a suit and clipboard. It was so obvious how much he stuck out, it was amazing we didn’t notice him before. “Now I don’t want you thinking about him, I want you all to be back in the game. I want you to get out there and win this.”
