“No, I don’t!” she said through a whole new wave of tears. “I love you!” she wailed. “I’m so sorry,” she said again. No amounts of ‘I’m sorry’ could change this.
“You should be. You just threw away over seven years of friendship for a few fucks,” I told her venomously. She wailed louder, getting the attention of a few girls passing by.
“I never want to see you again, hear from you, anything. We are over.” I told her. “From this day forward, you and Chris are dead to me,” I articulated slowly for her.
“No Leah. Please let me make it up to you!” she begged looking half crazy. “I’m sorry! We will find a way through this!” she sobbed. I turned away shutting the door in her face and on our friendship. It was over, there was no way to get past this and I didn’t want to.
THE NEXT FEW DAYS WENT by in a blur and I was so thankful that all of this had happened after exams, because I still wasn’t fully all there. I had deleted and blocked Chelsea and Chris from my phone and all my social media. After threatening them both with harassment suits, they stopped showing up at my door and I was able to go through the motions. I ate, slept, did school work, clinical, and then did it all over again. Clinical was the hardest because it needed the most focus and required the most amount of interacting. Even Brody knew something was up.
“You okay Leah?” he asked midway through our session. I nodded, only then realizing that he’d been staring at me waiting for a while now. I had been staring off in space thinking about what had become of my life.
“Yeah, sorry Brody. I didn’t mean to space out,” I apologized for my lack of professionalism.
“It’s okay Leah,” he said, patting me on the back comfortingly. “Do you want me to get the football team to beat the shit out of him?” he asked me completely seriously, his usual smug cocky smile nowhere in sight. I shook my head no but smiled at the thought and thoughtfulness of it, until I came to my senses.
“Wait,” I said, my eyes widening. “You know?” I asked, my voice rising in disbelief. This couldn’t get any worse.
“I think everyone does,” he winced on my behalf. Yep, it just got worse. I felt my cheeks heat with embarrassment, totally mortified.
“Don’t be embarrassed. He’s a piece of shit dirtbag,” Brody comforted. I was so angry and done with it all, I just wanted to get past it but then things like this would just pop up and throw me for a loop. There was no getting away from it.
“What are you thinking?” he asked while I was lost deep in thought.
“I’m reconsidering,” I told him.
“What?” he asked, his eyebrow raising in confusion.
“Your offer.” I smiled at his confused face, making him chuckle.
“Just say the word,” he told me. Oh, I wanted to, it was on the tip of my tongue. Now that I had not only lost my boyfriend but my best friend as well, I had no idea what to do with myself. I usually would have talked to Chelsea about everything that happened with Chris and me, but I didn’t have her and I usually would spend my weekend with Chris but that was over. So now, I had no one to talk to and to vent everything to. I had no one to spend my free time with and distract me from everything at hand. I felt so alone. The thought made me realize that I really needed to make some new friends or take up knitting. I hadn’t been aware of how much I had isolated myself since I’d started dating. I had a few friends besides Chelsea but they were more school friends, I’d never really hung out with them out of class.
I decided that starting now, I was going to go out of my comfort zone more often. I was going to make new friends, go out, let my hair down and have fun. This was a new chapter of my life, and it was going to be about me. I was going to be the main character in my own life, not someone on the sidelines any longer. I was no longer going to let my relationships rule my life or be the shadow in my own story, hiding behind my best friend. I was going to live in the moment and enjoy every second of it. I texted one of my friends, Jenny, from my anatomy class and asked her if she was free to hang out. She replied that she was busy with an essay but she’d be free to go out for drinks on Friday night. I quickly replied that I would love to. This was progress for me, my first step and I actually found myself genuinely looking forward to Friday.
“How about we go to MacArthur’s?” Jenny asked, as we walked to my apartment after class Friday, to get ready for our girls’ night out. I was about to say yes but MacArthur’s was where I always went, it was my comfort zone and I needed to get out of that.
“How about Duke’s?” I found myself asking her.
“Do you think we’ll get in?” she asked, nervous. Jenny was like me in a lot of ways, she was shy and reserved, great in school but didn’t get out too much and definitely a good girl, nothing like Chelsea other than her blonde hair and blue eyes.
“Yeah, I’ve been there twice now. It’ll be fun,” I assured her.
“Okay,” she agreed, sounding unsure. I understood her hesitation and had felt it my first time as well.
“Don’t worry; if you don’t like it, we can leave,” I promised. Unlike Chelsea, I would keep my promise. She nodded, looking more comfortable now. I decided to wear a cute pair of red high-waisted shorts with a black low-cut tank top that showed off my cleavage more than usual but still nothing too excessive. I usually didn’t show off my body and although it was nothing sleazy, it was a step for me and I felt good and looked good too. I put on some moisturizer, a light foundation, mascara, and a cute red lipstick and BAM! I was complete with a light spray of fruity perfume.
“You look amazing!” Jenny gushed, eyes wide and grinning.
“Thanks.” I smiled, feeling good about myself, “I decided to try something different.”
“Well, you should stick with it,” she told me, nodding at me with approval. I think I will, I thought to myself. Jenny looked cute, with a short flowy, yellow dress and a pair of black heels. We each had a drink at my place and any nervousness I’d had dulled. We were then ready for our night out on the town.
There was a small line already forming at Duke’s and two bouncers worked at getting people in. One of the bouncers was the lanky brown-haired man from the last time I had come and the other was Axel himself. I felt my heart race and butterflies flutter in my stomach with excitement. Axel hadn’t noticed me yet and I took this time to observe him unabashedly. He was truly beautiful. I wished I had my sketch book to draw him. My memory of him hadn’t done his image justice. Axel only noticed me when we were just behind the couple he was letting in. He froze when he looked at me and his expression turned to shock and then morphed into a magnificent smile. I found myself smiling right back at him and I was getting wet from how he seemed so pleased to see me.
“Hi,” I said with more enthusiasm than any of our other conversations, both from excitement and my buzz.
“Hey.” He smiled back, looking a little surprised. Not bothering to check my ID or Jenny’s, he just handed a bracelet to Jenny and then put one around my wrist himself. My skin tingled from the touch of his warm hands, as he gingerly held my wrist and closed the purple bracelet around it. I moved to hand him my entrance fee but he just shook his head.
“You don’t have to wait in the lines or pay if I’m here,” he whispered quietly in my ear, his breath brushing against my neck, giving me goosebumps. I could feel the walls of my vagina pulsating; he was turning me on so much without even doing anything. God, I needed to get laid.
“Thanks,” I said, feeling my cheeks blush from the havoc he was unknowingly creating upon my body. Axel ushered us forward and continued moving the line in behind us.
“I’ll see you later?” I asked, feeling a little nervous, for the first time tonight, I was putting myself out there. His eyes widened slightly and his smile grew.
“Yeah, I’ll find you when it quiets down,” he told me, getting me excited.
“Good.” I smiled cheerfully, leaving him to continue doing his job. The second we were inside and out of sight Jenny pounced on me
.
“Oh my God!” she exclaimed. “Who is that major hottie?” she asked, fanning herself. I couldn’t help but laugh at her.
“He’s just a guy I met,” I told her, downplaying it. She cocked her head sideways, not buying it.
“Where can I get me one of those!” she exclaimed. “He is all kinds of yummy! I’d let him share my bed,” she laughed jokingly. I felt my face heat at her words and had flashbacks to Munich and our very hot one night stand. I laughed at her and we walked over to the bar to get a round of drinks. We sat down with a pitcher of red sangria to share and quickly lost track of time. I was having so much fun with Jenny, drinking, laughing and just being myself. It was nice to get out with a friend, I hadn’t had this much fun in a long time.
“We should have done this a long time ago,” I told her, wondering why we hadn’t.
“We really should have!” she agreed with me.
Axel
I WAS STARTING TO LOSE hope of ever having a chance with Leah after last week, but then she just showed up looking ridiculously sexy in her little red shorts that showed off all of her tan and toned legs. Not to mention her delectable red lips which were begging me to kiss them. When she smiled at me so opening and invitingly, I knew it wasn’t over and I still had a chance. I could feel my heart beating a mile a minute, when I leaned in close to speak in her ear and caught a whiff of her fruity citrus scent; it was too much for me. Her amazing scent mixed with her soft warm skin, it had me in need of her tight little body.
I’d been so upset last week when she left after being so dismissive of me but she’d seemed to have an issue going on with her flaky blonde friend, so I tried not to take offense. I’d seen her blonde friend a few times over the past month and I had watched her leave again that night with Mathers and his buddies, letting me know just what kind of girl her blonde friend was. But Leah didn’t seem like her friend or any of the girls I’d ever met before but I could be wrong. I really hoped not though.
It was a busy night and the crowd just never seemed to die down. When it finally slowed a bit, I asked my buddy Julian if he could manage without me for a minute. He didn’t mind, so I took this as my chance to go see Leah. She was sitting at a table with a different blonde friend. They were both sipping their drinks and laughing. They looked to be having a truly good time. Damn, she was even more beautiful when she laughed. I walked up to them and smiled at her.
“Hey,” I said, unable to stop smiling even if I wanted to, I had no control when I was around her.
“Hey.” She smiled back at me with her sinfully edible ruby red lips. I felt like I was in high school again, just looking at her lips was getting me all hot and bothered.
“It’s pretty busy tonight,” I told her, disappointed, “but if you’re willing to wait around, I get off at two and I can drive you home,” I offered, thinking quickly. She looked at me surprised, her lips opening to speak but then she snapped them closed and looked to her friend for permission first. Her friend nodded rapidly and Leah smiled back at me again.
“I’d love that,” she told me, making my heart soar. I couldn’t keep the goofy smile off my face, I was excited.
“Great, I’ll meet up with you when I’m done,” I told her and headed back out to do my job. This shift could not end soon enough, a shift had never felt so long but I’d also never had such a beautiful girl waiting at the end to look forward to. I was suddenly aware that I probably stank of smoke and sweat and that I could definitely use a mint. My nerves rose at the thought of her and I alone again, and although I wanted it more than anything, I was terrified of her rejection again.
“I’VE GOT TO HEAD BACK home soon,” Jenny said sleepily. We’d had a great time and it was getting late but I was still wide awake with anticipation of seeing Axel and being alone with him again.
“Okay, thanks so much for coming out with me tonight,” I said, so happy we’d done this.
“We’ll have to do this again soon!” she enthused, smiling wide.
“Definitely,” I agreed, hugging her goodbye as she got in a cab back home. I only had twenty minutes before Axel finished up, so I quickly headed to the bathroom to make sure everything was still in place and to reapply some perfume and lipstick. There, good as new, I smiled at my reflection in the mirror. I headed to the entrance to wait the last five minutes with Axel. He perked up as I came to stand beside him.
“Did you have a good night?” he asked, stepping closer to me, his arm brushed against mine making me shiver and get goosebumps.
“Yeah, it was great.” I smiled, as Axel put his arm around me, mistaking my shivering for being cold, not realizing the effect he was having on my body.
“How about you?” I asked.
“It was a long one,” he sighed. “I just kept waiting for it to end so I could see you,” he divulged, smiling sweetly and shyly. I felt my heart melt a bit at how cute and sweet he was.
“I was looking forward to seeing you too,” I said, being honest with him. His grin widened at that.
He looked at his watch happily. “I’m done, I just have to clock out. Wait here and I’ll take you home,” he said leaving. My stomach tightened with anticipation. You’re single, young and attractive; you deserve to have some fun, I told myself over and over. Get out of your comfort zone, I scolded. You’ve done this before and with him no less, you want to do this again. Just do it! I inwardly shouted.
“All ready.” Axel smiled, coming back out and putting his big muscular arm around my waist, leading me towards the parking lot. “This one’s mine.” He smiled, pointing to a black Volkswagen Golf TSI.
“Nice car,” I admired.
“German engineering,” he chuckled as we got in. Axel drove stick shift, something I found super hot in a guy and something I wasn’t capable of myself.
“So, are you really German?” I asked very interested. I had so many questions and was confused about a lot of things concerning him.
“Born and bred.” He smirked. That just made me more confused.
“Then what are you doing here?” I questioned.
“My Mom and Dad met when my Mom was backpacking through Europe with some friends in college. My Dad is German and my Mom is actually from the States,” he explained, shedding some light on things. “Anyways, they got married and moved to Germany. I was born in Munich and I lived there until I was seventeen. Then my Mom got a job offer back here and we moved back. I’ve been here ever since,” he concluded. Wow, it was a lot to take in.
“So, when we met?” I asked. He smirked at the memory, making me blush red.
“I was visiting family, I go back every summer. My parents actually moved back last year,” he informed me.
“So, all your family is there?” I asked feeling bad, I don’t think I could live without my family being close.
“Yeah, my Mom was an only child and her parents both passed, so everyone for me is back in Germany.” I felt bad hearing that, I couldn’t imagine being so far from my family, even just going a month without seeing them was hard. I couldn’t imagine a whole year!
“Why did you stay here?” I asked curiously.
“My whole life is here now, all my friends, my work, my apartment. This is my home,” he explained and I could understand that.
“And you Leah,” he said, his voice deep. Hearing him say my name, from those sexy, full lips did all kinds of naughty things to my body. “Why were you in my hometown when we first met?” he asked, also curious.
“I took a German summer intensive class,” I explained, smiling.
“So, you speak German?” he asked, looking ridiculously happy at that.
“Not very well,” I admitted but that didn’t falter his smile.
“I think it’s hot,” he said, making me blush red. “So, where am I taking you?” he asked as he exited the parking lot.
“I actually live on campus, I’m in the student apartments,” I answered.
“I know where that is.” He nodded and drove us in that
direction. The car grew silent as we approached my building and his car slowed, leaving the ball in my court. This was it, what it all came down to.
“Do you want to come up?” I asked quickly, feeling shy.
“Yeah.” He smiled, looking a little nervous as well.
“You can park there, that’s my spot but I don’t actually have a car,” I said, pointing to my empty parking spot in front of my building. He pulled into it and shut the car off. We both got out and I led him up to my small apartment.
“Do you have roommates?” he asked, waiting outside my door patiently, as I fished my keys out of my purse.
“No, it’s just me,” I told him, unlocking the door and flicking the lights on. I kicked off my shoes and locked the door behind him. “It’s really small but it’s all I need,” I said, showing him around the tiny space. I thanked the Lord that I kept the place clean in my free time and that I’d hid the pictures of Chris and me in a shoebox in my closet.
“It’s nice,” he complimented and then that was it, there was no more need to hold back. I grabbed his face in my hands and went on my tippy-toes to kiss him. That was all the encouragement he needed. He wrapped his arms around my waist lifting me off the floor effortlessly and ravaged my mouth with his, bringing us over to my bed. I kissed him back with abandon and our tongues collided in a sensual dance.
With a small thud, we landed on my bed. I pulled my shirt off over my head in one fast movement and then helped him to remove his. I kissed him fervently, feeling his hard, naked chest beneath my hands. He fumbled with my bra for a second before getting it undone. His big warm hands grasping my breasts, I moaned out loud with pleasure. He brought his mouth down over my nipple, licking circles and then sucking hard on the swollen nub. He bit down gently causing me to cry out, it felt amazing but I couldn’t wait any longer. I worked at unbuttoning my own shorts and then moved on to his pants, while he worked on paying attention to my breasts.
