Standing near window side, with her gaze reaching out to the darkened lawn, Sadhiya heaved a big sigh . Bangles tinkled on her wrist. Silent moon laughed on the tragedy of her situation. She was married! Married…seriously? She felt like laughing on her situation. Well, what did she expected? Elder princess Sadhiya of Sehar! The girl who never said no to anything! Who always acted as a guide to her younger sister Shara and Noor. The girl looked upon as an ideal daughter by every state’s monarch was married to Sheikh Reyhan of Buktsar! It always came to this, Sadhiya thought, as she stared down at her hands. Her habit of saying No, to no one had landed her in this situation. She was married against her wishes. She closed her eyes and lo, the image of her best friend Asif surfaced in her mind. His shining eyes, curly hair, laughing face! Had she got the courage to speak out her mind, King would never ever get her married to someone without her consent! There lies the problem isn’t it? She never raised a question to her father’s order. For her, it was the final words from the almighty’s mouth himself! But the worst case was yet to come. When she had delivered the news to Asif, he had whooped in joy, hugged her and had expressed his approval. “Aren’t you sad?” she asked him and he gave her a confused glance, “Why will I, Sadie?” making it clear that he never had any interest in her. She was always his best friend, nothing else apart from that. But…she was so sure of him, thought rolled in her mind. Reyhan, her husband…at first, when his photo was given to her, all she had looked was his eyes! Cold steel grey eyes! Broad shoulders, spikes of hair touching the earlobes! The aura which spoke volumes of power itself! Undoubtedly, if Asif had been placed next to him then he appeared boy and not a man! Shiver went down her spine and she pulled herself together. She was married now, that what matter’s the most. Asif was her past and should be buried deep somewhere in her conscious. Surprisingly to her, it proved to be really easy as soon as the preparations began. It looked so natural for her. Everything…sighing, she took a gulp of water from the nearby kept glass. Henna patterns in her hand were designed so intricate that design looked like her second skin.
It was her wedding night; she conceded and looked towards clock which had struck twelve at midnight. Where was Reyhan? She thought and looked around the large spacey room which had a wall covered with his sole portrait. Finally, she was going to lose her virginity to her husband! She will know what all the fuss is about! She should feel shy as she was an innocent in that area but, for some unspoken reason, she didn’t. A part of her was coy but another was curious. Her friends made fun of her when she told them about her status. They said that there is something wrong with her hormones or worst, something wrong with her! At that time, she had merely laughed but had seriously considered the options after the meeting got over. She was helpless, she thought, royal princesses are not allowed to hook up with any Tom, Dick or Harry! They are to pray a lot, eat a lot (for their imaginary future children or heir, which they will give to the groom’s family and bring honour to their own) and respect the guidelines which are meant for their own security. Sadhiya, being the elder, was forced to succumb under her dad’s order. She never wanted to spoil her image in front of him! She wanted to show him what a dutiful, loyal and intelligent human his elder daughter was! She wanted to set a good example for her younger sister’s. Shara, the middle one, was adopted by the royal family. She was more of a boy then a girl. Noor, the younger one, was blind by birth and on top of that, an illegitimate too. Poor Noor, she thought, to live in royal circle like that!
Dwelling in these thoughts, she went to sleep.
*********
“Good Morning, my lady” soft voice crooned Sadhiya out of her sleeping state. For a moment, she forgot where she was. As the memory freshened up, with a jolt she sat up on her bed. Her bangles tinkled and immediately, she recalled. It was her wedding night yesterday, wasn’t it? Then why was she dressed till now… “Your morning coffee, my grace” “Wait!” she said, “Where is Reyhan?” “His highness is having breakfast on the balcony; would you like to take your Coffee there, Sheikha?”
“No,” she said and sipped her brew. What would she say to him? What sort of a person leaves his wife on the first night like that? Maybe, some work was to be done urgently…Work! Really! It could have had waited, wouldn’t it? Or else, he could just have come, told her about it and went back to it? What sort of a person was he? Sadhiya’s perplexed thoughts were making her more fussy and irritated. Didn’t she already have too many things on her mind? Leaving the coffee, collecting her gown from the nearby chair, she headed towards the direction of the bathroom. Reyhan had to give some answers and soon.
**************
His gaze was on the frontline of the morning newspaper but his mind was elsewhere! Reyhan-al-bin-Hukum, ruling king of Buktsar, was married to Princess Sadhiya of Sehar! At that thought, he lifted his gaze off and stared towards the horizon. Things were changing; he could sense it in the air, who knows whether for good or bad! Ameera, his guardian, had forced him to take this step for the welfare of his kingdom and his people; he had no intentions to get married in the first place. Why? What for? To disgrace himself? To let the world know of their ruler’s one hideous secret? A secret so dark, if revealed, it had the power to shake their belief in him? He was a failure inside and one more mistake he had committed was destroying somebody else’s life by getting married!
Sadhiya, his mind went to the day when Ameera had shown her photo to him. What had he been thinking? He wasn’t thinking. He was going along with everyone’s wishes and no one ever asked him if he wants to take that step or not. He had deliberately not slept yester night with his new bride. In future, so many questions would have been raised if he had done that thing. The problem was, he was already suffering in his own misery, he didn’t want someone like Sadhiya to suffer along with him! Second problem, Sadhiya was a walking temptation in her own self. All those long hair locks, innocent smile, sensuous mouth, firm breast…! Reyhan clamped down his thoughts there and then. It was bad he was going to dump the bitter reality on her today. She was made for a man’s pleasure. He wanted to do all those things to her. Kiss that lovely mouth…wrap his finger’s around those beautiful tendrils…cup that enticing ass of her as he take her…Reyhan felt his manhood throbbing in his pants and immediately pulled himself higher so that anyone might not take notice of it
. God, even her photo never had this effect on him as her real-self did. During the ceremony, when he had kissed her, he had never expected the chemistry to spark so violently between both of them. She will be heart-broken and the thought made him guilty. He didn’t feel right about it. Someday, he will have to tell her the truth in all its brutality but, till that time, it would be safe if she gets used to this sort of treatment. If she agrees to the certain arrangements, which he had in mind, then for sure he had chosen the right bride for himself. He can tell her all about it when she will turn up for the breakfast. Right on cue, as he lifted his face and stared ahead, he saw her.
*********
“Good morning, your highness” Sadhiya muttered and Reyhan greeted her back. What was he thinking? She thought as she took her place. Shouldn’t he explain his reason for being absent yester night? Clearly, he didn’t felt the need to do it. “How was your night?” he cleared his throat and poured out the hot beverage for her. As if he didn’t knew! Resisting the urge to roll her eyes, she looked at him and said, “Fine,” Nodding he resumed his own meal. That’s it! She grimaced. Won’t he say anything?
“Sadhiya,” “Reyhan,” both of them spoke together. Going red to her cheeks, gulping down a morsel, she said, “Why don’t you say it first?” “No, please, you go ahead…” “You weren’t there yester night, lordship” she blurt it out. So much for setting up the stage! Just blurt it out, will you? “I was about to explain myself about that,” he said as he sipped his own. Curiously she looked up, “ Go ahead,” “Sadhiya, you are the queen of Buktsar now. You have been chosen by the elders for a reason. The qualities needed in a wife for me were visible in you and as people have advised us that you are the most loyal wife a person can ever get.” “Thank you for your words, Sire” I smiled a little but, then again, come to point! “Sadhiya,” he left his meal and turned his back to her, so as to hide his inner turmoil, “You are an intelligent person and I hope, the thing which I am going to tell you right now, will make some sense.” “Please,” she said and got up from her own seat and went near him, “I will try to understand. Was there some work?” “it’s not that,” he said and then sighed, “ Sadhiya, though we are married and it is my sole responsibility to cater to your every need but, know this, that though we will always share one bed but,” he paused and cleared his throat, “ Our marriage shall never be consummated by either of us”
*********************
Words left her mouth. Her entire being froze and she went cold, as if, she felt nothing. His words made no sense. “What! I didn’t get you, I am sorry” “I mean,” he turned and stared in her eyes, “We will never have any physical relationship between us…” “You mean, we will never have sex!” she repeated him in much crude way. He had an amusing but sad expression in his eyes. Her outspokenness was something he was surprised at. “Yes,” Nothing came next. All Reyhan remembered was Sadhiya’s unshed tears and hurtful expression as she asked him one earth shattering question, “Why?” “I can’t answer this one,” he said and didn’t deter from his path when she kept on pestering him about it. “But I have the right to know why, Reyhan?” she shook him by shoulder forgetting that he was royalty. For her, he was just a man at the moment. A man, who was her husband and who owe her some answers! “I am sorry,” he repeated. Pecking slightly on her forehead, he left her to dwell in her own misery.
********************
“Hi Sadie,” Shara’s voice exploded on the receiving end and a small smile crept on Sadhiya’s tearful face. She had cried an entire day and was exhausted now. This is how things go when you are too subservient to your parent’s wishes and desires, her heart cried in agony but her mind had totally another set of theories. Maybe, there is a reason behind all of this. Maybe, he is trying to test you. Whatever, she thought, she was in no mood to have a talk with anyone but when Shara called, she had no other option but to talk to her. She could not tell her family anything about this sort. First day of her married life and she has already started with complaints! This is how they will perceive it. No, she has to handle the entire situation on her own. “Hi Shara, how are things going?” “Fine. How is Noor, mom and dad?” “They are healthy as a horse. I don’t believe that you have got married, sis. I am so happy for you. We were so use to your being around and all that, it seems, as if, half the castle has gone silent with your going” Sadhiya controlled her tongue because she had felt the same thing. She had a nagging doubt that in future, she will keep on feeling the same because till then, her sister’s house will be full of laughing children whereas her! She will remain virgin for her entire life. How sad was this situation…After talking for another hour, she kept the phone down, walked up to the window side and wiped her cheeks again and again. This was her destiny now. She can’t say No! The greatest dilemma, which was eating her right now, why? Why they can’t have any normal relation like any other married couple? He said that he can’t answer that one. Whom should she ask then? Did something happened in his past? Something, about which, he didn’t want to talk about? When will he tell her? Or, will he ever tell her?
************
It felt like hell, Reyhan thought as he increased his number on running machine. His gym was the only place where he could actually prolong over any thought and no one disturbed him. After thinking over the whole matter for one entire week, he had decided the future. Taste the fruit or never pick it from the tree! The fruit was already picked and it was time to taste it. Sadhiya will understand the consequences, he was sure of it. But, was he positive? After all, at the end of the day, Sadhiya was a woman. Whatever, he thought, after sleeping with her on the same bed and never touching her he had realized what the real agony is? Every time, in the secret hours of the night, he had opened his eyes only to watch the mysterious moon rays caressing her cheeks. So tenderly, as if, the moon was scared to wake his sleeping beauty! She fascinated him. After two days, she had never pestered him again regarding their sex life. He had thought that she will go in a depression and will make it hard for him to see her some sense in this situation. Interestingly, she had been her normal self and never questioned him anything. But tonight, things were about to change. Sadhiya had proved her intelligence and it was time to take his chance on the real wedding night. She will be amazed, surprised even but, then again, he wanted to sweep her off foot and give her everything in his power. If not true love then at least, he can have the company of a loyal, devoted wife. He had long denied his manhood the taste the pleasure.
******************
Dinner got over and Sadhiya’s gaze never wavered off from her husband’s face. He was too talkative today, telling her about the routine of his office work. It wasn’t anything abnormal, he did this everyday and she knew why? He was making up for his deficiency in the other area. Sadhiya wanted to raise the topic but never said anything. In these days, through the help of Ameera, his guardian, she had come to know that Reyhan was the orphaned child from his birth onwards. His mother passed away while delivering him and the King passed, right after two days, in his beloved wife’s memory. From now till then, Ameera had taken care of him. She was his father’s sister! He was a devoted ruler who cared for his people. A kind person, who knew how to tackle the problems of others, appearance of rude, cold and ruthless was there on frontier because his title demanded that from him. Inside, he was a gem! Sadhiya had no idea about how true her statement was but she knew this, Reyhan was an amiable companion. He never dumped his own opinion on her and always treated hers with respect! This was one thing which she liked in him. Physically, she was aware of their sparkling chemistry but….she sighed! If only, things would have had been better! If only, they had known each other more intimately. During these talks, she had come to know so much about him that it amazed her. They both had so many things in common. The expectations, desires and always the role of being a responsible one! She had gone through the same environment back in Sehar! He had said the same thing when she had told him about her own childhood, “I
like you, Sadhiya. I really do” For some anonymous reason, her heart had dived for her stomach. The feelings jolted her to the awareness! She wanted him to like her, to be proud of her! Like, No…that was not correct, she wanted him to love her! Love her? Since when did love come into equation? Does she want him to love her? That her soul was asking her this question made her reflected twice on her feelings. Does she want that?
“Sadhiya,” Reyhan voice echoed in her thoughts and she came back to present, “What? I am sorry…my mind was elsewhere” “I can see that,” he smiled mischievously. Something was different today, Sadhiya conceded. Reyhan looked happy. All in all, he was smiling! “You are looking beautiful,” he said and sipped his wine, “Ah, Thank you,” she blushed and then looked at him again, “Reyhan, What’s up with you today? You look really cheerful. I have never seen you in such jolly mood before!” “I am just being myself,” he gulped down a morsel and adverently; Sadhiya’s gaze flew to his mouth. They never kissed after their marriage ceremony, did they? Will he ever think about her in that way? God knows, if she will have to keep on suffering in that agony. Will he never feel any attraction to her? Nothing! “Assalam Valekum, Your highness” the voice boomed in the hall. “Ah,” Reyhan got up from his seat and went up to the guest who had entered. Sadhiya too, stood up and turned towards the person. He was tall, dark and dangerous! His eyes hovered between Sadhiya and Reyhan but ultimately, his mouth curved into a beautiful smile, as Reyhan took him in a brotherly hug. “According to the customs, I should not even speak to you, lest hug you” Reyhan said with just a hint of edge to his voice. Whoever the person was, clearly he was close to Reyhan’s heart. “I am sorry,” said the other one in his husky tone. “Clearly I have offended his highness when I had no intention to do that. Congratulations, bro. May you have a happy married life. I was about to make it to the function but business, you know how it goes?” Reyhan smiled again as he patted him on his back. “Congratulation on your big success in business!” “Thanks,” he smiled and soon they made it to her side. Coming to her side, creating a protective circle by his arms around her shoulder, smiling he introduced her, “Meet your sister-in-law, Queen Sadhiya-al-bin-Hukum of Buktsar,” taking her hand in his, he bowed and touched it with his forehead, “ Welcome to the Buktsar family, Sheikha” Sadhiya smiled and bowed her head. “He is Sheikh Jamal-al-bin-Katar of Ara, Sadhiya! Buktsar’s sisterly neighborhood and my brother.”
