From the Ashes (Southern Heat Book 1)

Maybe Mason was right. Maybe she should take this opportunity to start over. To rebuild her life. Decide what she wanted to do. She didn’t want to go back into antiques. But what, then? She’d have to make a decision soon.
“How about a glass of wine?” Mason smiled as he placed two half-filled glasses of wine on the coffee table, then returned to the kitchen. He appeared seconds later with the platter of crackers and sliced cheese.
She smiled at him. “I remember you doing that.”
He moved around the coffee table and sat down on the couch next to her, reaching for her hand. “You do?” he smiled. “What else do you remember?”
She offered a slight shrug. “Just little bits and pieces, Mason. But I know the doctor told me to be patient. That in time, I might remember more.”
“And if you don’t?”
Again a shrug. “I’m thrilled this is over, and that I helped save women from being . . . it’s too horrible to even contemplate.” She looked at him, her eyes searching his. “But my home, my life, everything about it is tainted. I don’t want to go back to that. I don’t remember it and I’m not sure I want to. But I don’t know how to move forward. I don’t know—”
He placed his hand on her cheek and turned her face to his. Kissed her. Deeply, gently, sensuously. His thumb traced the contours of her cheek bone. “You don’t have to make a decision right now, Sloane. You can stay here if you want. At my apartment, in Monroe.”
“Mason . . . my memory may be gone, but my heart remembers. My heart remembers you.” She took a deep breath and exhaled. “I think I’m falling in love with you—again.”
He smiled and kissed her again. “I love you, too, Sloane. I always have. I do remember that. Maybe we can build a new life together, start over.” He leaned closer.
Delicious sensations raced through her body as he kissed her, playfully at first. His lips touched on her eyelids, the tip of her nose, her cheeks, and her chin. His tongue traced the contours of her lips and then dipped inside. She groaned and leaned into him, returning the kiss with as much passion as he gave her.
Their tongues tangled, and for the first time since she had woken on the asphalt of the parking lot of the burning auto shop, she was sure of one thing. She could trust her heart. And her heart was telling her to trust Mason. To hang onto him. To love him.
So she did.
