“Well, it might not matter. Matel could be in jail a very long time. He killed Jack and his partner, plus ordered men to kill those other men who took you from Repose,” Warren said to her.

“Then there’s really nothing to discuss,” she said and closed her eyes and absorbed the feel of Shimmy’s chest against her cheek and Dominick’s hands caressing her back.

“Well, there’s this.” Culhane placed a large yellow envelope onto the bed and slid it to her.

  “What is it?” she asked.

“It’s from Matel’s attorneys,” Warren told her.

She scrunched her eyes together and opened the envelope. In it was a letter stating that her father was leaving her the total amount of money from the sale of all fifty jewelry stores he’d opened and operated once they were liquidated to cash. The number of zeroes on the end of the number indicated an estimated sum in the millions.

“Holy cow,” she said and then handed the letter over to Culhane. His eyes widened and then he looked serious and sad.

“Culhane?” She stared at him as he passed the letter to his brothers. After they all looked at it they all seemed sad.

  “What’s wrong?” she asked.

“You can do anything you want with that money, Cali. You can go anywhere, travel anywhere, buy anything you want and have your choice of men,” Culhane said and she realized what they were afraid of.

She took the letter and envelope and tossed it onto the floor.

“I have all I want right here in Repose. Right here on this bed,” she said and smiled at them.

“Are you sure, Cali, that we’ll be enough?” Warren asked her.

“I’m in love for the first and last time in my life. My mother never had that chance. Matel let her go, only seeing what he lost after she was gone. I’m not my mother or my father. I’m me, and I love the four of you with all my heart, and everything else will work itself out, because I have the Perkins brothers in my life, and you have my back. I love you. That’s all that matters.”

They all smiled and told her how much they loved her as they cuddled with her on the bed. They were her world, the loves of her life and the medicine she needed to finally break from the pain she had sustained. Together she felt like anything was possible, but mostly she wanted to feel just like this, in this very moment. At peace, surrounded by her men, loved, cherished, and protected in the aftermath of battle wounds that would surely go down in history as unforgettable, but healable. Making love was the best medicine by far, and all her future plans entailed lots of lovemaking with her men, and lots of healing.

  ABOUT THE AUTHOR

People seem to be more interested in my name than where I get my ideas for my stories from. So I might as well share the story behind my name with all my readers.

My momma was born and raised in New Orleans. At the age of twenty, she met and fell in love with an Irishman named Patrick Riley Dwyer. Needless to say, the family was a bit taken aback by this as they hoped she would marry a family friend. It was a modern day arranged marriage kind of thing and my momma downright refused.

Being that my momma’s families were descendants of the original English speaking Southerners, they wanted the family blood line to stay pure. They were wealthy and my father’s family was poor.

Despite attempts by my grandpapa to make Patrick leave and destroy the love between them, my parents married. They recently celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary.

I am one of six children born to Patrick and Lynn Dwyer. I am a combination of both Irish and a true Southern belle. With a name like Dixie Lynn Dwyer it’s no wonder why people are curious about my name.

Just as my parents had a love story of their own, I grew up intrigued by the lifestyles of others. My imagination as well as my need to stray from the straight and narrow made me into the woman I am today.

Enjoy The Battlefield Series 5: Breaking Through the Pain and allow your imagination to soar freely.
