Axel
A scream rips through my dream, wrenching my body straight up in bed. There must be a murderer here. Another scream pierces the air and the hair on the back of my neck stands straight up. Throwing the covers off my boxer-brief covered form, I lunge out of my warm safe haven, and yank the door open with a snarl. When I find whoever the person screaming is, and they’re not being murdered, I just might do the honors.
My whole body aches from working all day. I’ve been looking forward to my bed since the moment I woke up from it the day before. I follow the screaming outside to our backyard. At least I won’t have to clean the tile. I can just hose off the murder scene and get back to my mattress faster.
You always want to think of the positive in these situations.
The mayhem seems to be coming from next door. It looks like the place has been bought, by screamers.
Fucking great.
“Hey.” My voice booms with frustration. I don’t bother to hide it. I’m tired, sore, and cranky. As soon as I shut this asshole up I can get back to bed. If I get it done fast enough it might still be warm.
I’m not normally an asshole, but my brothers and I have not only been working nights at our regular job, we’ve also been working our asses off getting ready to take over our club. All I want to do is crawl back in bed and sleep the day away, but first, I have to shut the banshee up.
“Some people are trying to sleep,” I say, peering over the fence. And as soon as I do, I know I’ve made a huge mistake. This is what happens when you’re exhausted, you aren’t able to assess the situation you’re in before acting out. And not only am I exhausted, I’m an asshole. A huge one.
A tiny little girl in a pink bathing suit runs around in the early morning, having the time of her life in the sprinkler. Well, she was having the time of her life, until her dickhead neighbor yelled at her. Shit.
Her brown eyes glaze over with tears and her bottom lip trembles. I rake a hand through my hair. The teary-eyed little girl runs over to an older woman I hadn’t even noticed was standing there. The woman scoops the child up and kisses the top of her head before shooting me a death glare,
“I’m sorry,” I apologize.
The little girl has her blonde head buried in her savior’s neck. Her savior looks to be in her early fifties, and is beautiful except for the anger in her eyes as she glares at me.
“Sorry for what?” another woman, the younger replica of the lady holding the little girl, walks out through the sliding glass door with a sippy cup in her hand. She glances at the crying child and then back to me. “What did you do?” she snarls as she picks up the little girl and cradles her.
“He yelled.” A pudgy little finger points directly at me, the accusation loud and clear. I bump my forehead on the fence post, wishing I’d just pulled the blankets over my head instead of coming out here.
When I pick up my head, the woman’s long tan legs are eating up the distance between us as she marches over to me. My tiny victim is wrapped around her, staring at me. Her finger still out and pointed in my direction. I try to get myself together before she reaches me, but I’m having a difficult time. I want to blame it on exhaustion, but she is the most gorgeous woman I’ve ever seen. And that’s saying something because every night at work I’m bombarded by sexy women who try desperately to impress me. But this one beats them all.
I do a quick inventory as she strides over to the fence between us, wishing I can slow down time to take her all in. She’s got long thick blonde hair pulled up into a ponytail. A ponytail I want to release, letting her sexy locks free. She’s wearing tiny pink shorts and a tank top with nothing under it.
Thank you hot Vegas sun.
I’ll admit it, I’m staring hard, wanting to see if her breasts are fake or not. But she moves too fast for me to figure it out.
Her pink nails snap in front of my face getting my attention off her large chest and straight to her face. I groan as I get a good look at her. Her soft-brown eyes spark with anger, making her sexy as hell. Her nose is slightly turned up at the end, and her full lush mouth is turned down into a frown.
A fucking knockout.
“What did you do to my daughter?”
I give myself a mental shake. How pervy can I be? Staring at her, while she holds her crying daughter. The daughter I just yelled at. This is why I need more sleep. I drag my hand through my hair again and focus on the little girl instead of the furious goddess.
“Hey little one. I’m sorry for yelling at you. I was asleep and when you screamed I thought someone was being hurt. I’m sorry.” I wink at her, feeling even lower as her bottom lip trembles.
Her brown eyes assess me with the innocence only a child can have. I haven’t been around a lot of children, but my guess is she’s around three. “Meanie,” she says.
I crack a smile and her mom takes a deep breath, making her tits move with her diaphragm. I refuse to look at them, not wanting to appear even more like a perverted asshole.
“I am a meanie,” I say with a grin. I’d agree with anything she says if it stops her tears.
The little girl keeps staring at me. She reaches out and taps her finger to my nose, “Boop.”
My mouth drops open, and I do the only thing I can think of... I reach out my finger and boop her nose right back. I get a toothy grin and she wiggles out of her mom’s grasp, running back to the sprinklers.
The mother’s white tank top is wet where she was holding her daughter making the material see through. My cock strains against my boxer briefs and I’m glad there’s a fence between us so I don’t look like an even bigger jerk.
“Stop looking at me like that.”
My eyes snap back to hers. “I’m sorry.”
“Is that all you can say?”
She stands there with eyes blazing deep into me and I have a hard time remembering words. And then, as if all the words in my vocabulary come back in a rush, and I ramble, not knowing what else to do. “I’m sorry. Sleeping. I didn’t mean to yell at your daughter. Screaming. Murder. Mayhem.” Ok, now I just sound like an idiot.
And I can tell I sound like an idiot to her as well, because she raises a brow at me.
“What?”
“Look, I...I’m not…” I clamp my mouth shut.
“Listen, this is a new backyard for her to explore. She’s only three-years-old. Of course, she’s going to scream.”
I take a deep breath, feeling like the anger she’s throwing my way is more than just the fact I yelled at her daughter and maybe something else. Something deeper. “I know that now. I wasn’t aware this house had been bought. I feel awful and I’m sorry.”
“Are we going to have a problem? I can’t have you getting upset at her every time she’s having fun.” She puts her hands on her hips and I trace the movement with my eyes, stopping when I see her pink shorts have ridden up giving me a better glimpse of her tanned legs. “Stop looking at me like that.”
“It’s kind of hard. You’re practically wearing nothing. And you’re probably hands down the hottest woman I’ve ever seen. And your shirt is see through.”
Her eyes go wide as she wraps her arms around herself. All this does is lift her tits higher, making my mouth go dry.
My eyes snap up to the sky and I try to remind my dick to behave. “Listen, I shouldn’t have yelled at your daughter. I promise it won’t happen again. I know it sounds like a cop-out, but I’ve been working a lot the last couple weeks and today was my first day off. I work nights and I’m exhausted. I wasn’t thinking straight. I will buy earplugs if I have to, but I won’t yell at her again. Promise.”
She studies me as if she can read the sincerity on my face.
“I’m Axel, by the way.”
“I’m Emma,” Emma points to her daughter in the sprinklers. “She’s Felicity. And that’s my mom, Janet.” She points at the lady who Felicity first ran to. “I understand being tired. I work nights, too.” Her voice softens and I move my head from the sky back to her. Big mistake, my softening dick is rock hard again. I’m afraid if I move closer to the fence it will pierce a hole in it just to get closer to her.
“Like I said, I understand being tired. And hearing a screaming kid is one of the worst ways to wake up. Go back to sleep and I’ll bring her in the house.”
I reach out to touch her, but instead let my hand fall on the fence. “Don’t bring her in. She’s having fun.” I glance back at the little girl screaming and running through the water, forgetting all about the meanie. “Now that I know nobody is being murdered I can ignore the screams.”
We stare at each other. I resist the urge to touch her or run my eyes over her incredible body. Hell, I'd give up all the sleep for a month to do it. With a nod, I rap my knuckles on the fence and turn around to go back into the house.
“Making enemies with the new neighbors?” My identical brother, Damien, sits on the couch, cuddling a cup of coffee.
There are three of us, identical triplets.
Yes, you heard that right. Three.
Ben’s the oldest, by only a few minutes, but he sure likes to let us know it every chance he gets.
He just recently got engaged to his fiancée, Clara, and has been staying at her house most nights.
I’m the middle child. Seriously, it’s by minutes so I don’t feel like I have that middle-child syndrome or anything.
And then there's Damien, the youngest of the three.
“I thought someone was hurt. You didn’t hear her screaming?” I grab a bottle of water and refuse to acknowledge the coffee. Caffeine will keep me awake, and that’s the opposite of what I want right now. I’m still convinced I’ll be able to go back to sleep. Maybe even dream of my new sexy neighbor with her fiery eyes.
“I did, but I figured it was the little girl. I saw them moving in yesterday when I ran home to get the design plans.”
“Did you meet her?” I ask. My back teeth push together so hard they almost crack. The idea of Damien flirting with Emma pisses me off.
“No, I was in a hurry. You’re acting weird. What’s up with you?”
“Nothing.” I finish the bottle, tossing it in the recycling. “I’m going back to bed. I’m fucking sore.”
“Ben will be here in a couple hours to workout,” Damien says before taking a sip of his coffee.
“Wake me up when he gets here.” I head down the hallway.
I crawl into my cold bed before slamming my fist into the pillow, wishing I’d met Emma under different circumstances. Felicity’s screams carry into the room. Emma’s laughter filters in as well. The sound is throaty and sexy, matching everything else about her. My dick strains against my boxer briefs as I recall the way her tank top clung to her body.
Fuck my life.

Emma
Felicity screams even louder and I wince at the sound. I wasn’t lying when I told him I work nights too, and waking up to a screaming three-year-old is unpleasant for someone who’s exhausted. Hell, I’m her mother. I can’t imagine a stranger having to hear it.
“So, I guess that’s our new neighbor.” My mom sits next to me, a tiny blush staining her face, making me smile. “He’s quite sexy.”
“Mom.”
“What? Your dad has been dead two years and I’m not blind. Did you see the shoulders on him? They were huge.” She fans herself at the thought of our newest neighbor’s shoulders.
I shake my head, pretending to watch Felicity so I can ignore my mother.
She bumps her foot against my shin, and I roll my eyes. She’s not going to let me get out of this conversation. I can see the determination on her face. “Ok, I noticed he’s handsome.” Her eyebrow rises. “And his shoulders are pretty big although I’ve seen bigger.”
“Sure you have. And those green eyes.” She fans herself harder.
Yes, I noticed those eyes. Those green eyes roaming all over my body. I almost dropped Felicity just from his muscle-melting gaze. My mom isn’t wrong when she comments on his shoulders. He’s ripped, not in a steroid kind of way, but in an, I work out and take care of my body, kind of way. He takes pride in himself, it's obvious.
I mean if he’s going to stare at me, then I’m going to take my turn to look at him.
His brown hair is long enough for him to push his fingers through, or to grab onto while he does wicked things to you. I shake my head hoping my mother doesn’t notice the blush rising to my cheeks. His face is made for the movies, modeling, or dirty erotic dreams. Dreams where you wish you had narcolepsy so you won’t wake up. I hate to admit, I was staring...hard.
Like really hard.
He had no shirt on, and his chest and abs looked as though they were carved from stone. He really was something amazing to look at.
Maybe it’ll be nice having eye-candy right next door.
“Are you having a hot flash?” I ask my mom as she continues to fan herself.
“That boy could make any woman have a hot flash. My clothes nearly disintegrated.”
“Who would have guessed my mother’s a pervert?”
“Jealous?”
“He yelled at Felicity for having fun playing in the sprinklers, in the summer, in Vegas. No, I’m
not jealous. I’m furious. The realtor said the neighbors were nice, hard-working people. She didn’t mention the angry man who has no problems yelling at a three-year-old.”
“He didn’t yell that loud.” My mother wiggles her nose.
“Oh, Mom.”
My mother winks as Felicity runs up and takes a swig from her sippy cup before running back into the water. “He apologized. He looked like he meant it. You understand working nights. Give him a break.” She pats my knee. “I’ve seen you be a bear too when you’re tired. He was startled, and he said he thought someone was being murdered. He didn’t run away from a murder scene, instead he ran to the rescue.” She gives me that all-knowing look. Like I should be proud of him or something.
Like he deserves a medal.
“I’m not going to win this with you, am I?”
“Nope, and I don’t think you want to. How long has it been since you’ve been on a date?”
I roll my eyes at the thought of dating. “I’m not going on a date with the neighbor. Can we please drop it?”
“Baby girl, you need to relax. You’ve done so much for us, but now everything’s going as planned.” She wiggles in her seat a little like she’s trying to dance without having to get up. “Have a little fun.”
“I’m having fun.” I cross my arms. A yawn hits me, and I stretch my tired muscles. Like I said, I wasn’t lying to my hot angry neighbor when I told him I work nights too. “I’m going to feed Felicity her snack before going to take a nap. I have to leave for work later.”
