He lets out a little laugh. “Please, don’t tell anyone that.”

I chuckle, “as long as you don’t tell anyone what happened in the bathroom.”

He shakes his head. “A gentleman never tells my dear.”

I blush. “All hijinks aside, I had a great time.”

He walks me over to the elevator and presses the up button as he makes a little face.

  “What’s wrong?”

“I am just trying to imagine what our second date is going to be like.”

I let out a loud laugh. I hadn’t even thought of that. After tonight, I’m pretty sure I’ll be wanting something a little tamer for the both of us.

“God help us if we try to go out on New Year’s Eve,” he jokes, “I was just mugged by a grandma.”

I can’t stop laughing as the elevator dings. “Does that mean you’re asking me out on New Year’s Eve?”

He gives me a nod. “You better believe I am.”

“Where could we go on New Year’s Eve?” I question as the doors open and we step inside. I tell the attendant what floor and he presses the button quietly.

“Well, I would say right back here in New York, I mean, what else could really happen to us at this point?”

I let out another laugh. “You have a very good point.”

“Maybe next time instead of a taser we need a gun.”

I let out another laugh as we walk to the hotel room door and I use the key card to let myself in. Its pitch black which I expected but before I can even get to the light switch I hear a loud thump and a deep groan.

“Remy?” I reach blindly for the light inching forward when I trip over something and hit the floor. I release a groan as I pick myself up and stumble again in the dark for the light. When I finally find it I flip it on half expecting there to be a murderer in our room. No, there’s no murderer, but there is something just as shocking, there in the middle of the floor passed out is Lucy and Tonto. Remy shakes his head as he begins pulling himself up off the floor and shaking his head.

“You have got to be kidding me,” he starts laughing. “I guess we didn’t think to ask Cindy and Will if they were in the room, huh?”

I feel my shoulders drop. Now I just feel stupid. I turn to lock the door and grab Remy’s hand. “Any objections to sharing a bed?” I laugh, finally peeling off the knee high boots and tossing them to the side of the room.

“You could tell me sleep on the floor and I’d be okay with it.”

I turn and give him a thoughtful look. “Nah, I’m getting attached to you, besides, I’m freezing. You have all those muscles so I know you’re warm.” I flip on my bedroom light and then turn off the main living area light. “Thank you for getting me home safe.”

He smiles brightly. “Thank you for the best night I’ve had in a really long time.”

My cheeks flush as I work out of the jingling belt and begin climbing into the bed. I’m too tired to even think about pajamas at this point. Remy kicks off his shoes, tosses his mask and hat off to the side, and falls into the bed with me. I click off the light and settle under the covers. I feel Remy adjusting himself in the bed next to me. It has been a hell of a night with a lot more unexpected twists and turns than I ever imagined.

He pulls me into his arm and I feel him kiss the back of the neck, “see, I promised I’d get you back safely.”

I smile to myself. “Goodnight, Remy.”

“Sweet dreams, Em,” he breathes softly.
