I moan his name, and he squeezes my ass, both of us coming with a loud cry. His cock explodes in my channel, and my pussy thrums with delight. He pulls out of me, and I roll over, suddenly experiencing another pregnancy craving.
“I think I need a snack,” I say.
Josh laughs. “Anything my princess wants. How about I make a run to Taco Bell?”
I laugh. “I’ll come with you,” I say. We clean up and look to find our clothes. They are strewn all over the room. But just as I bend over to grab my dress, I feel a shift.
My thighs are suddenly soaked, my legs too. I gasp, looking up at Josh.
“What is it, Princess?” he asks.
“I think… I mean, I know my… My water broke!” I exclaim my eyes widening
Josh grins up at me. “Talk about the perfect way to start a new year!”
* * *
Once we get to the hospital, labor slows. I prepared myself for this. We've gone to the birthing classes and watched the videos. We've practiced our breathing, but as the hours go on, I feel my energy wane. I thought it would happen in a rush, but this labor is taking its sweet time. The evening passes quickly, and still no baby.
Then suddenly, I feel pressure. “I think it’s time!”
My doctor comes to my side and says, “It’s almost midnight. If you push now, you might have the first baby of the new year.” I smile, suddenly my energy regained. “I can see the head,” my doctor tells me.
I look over at Josh. “What do you think? Is it going to be a boy or a girl?” We wanted it to be a surprise.
“Your dad's in the lobby. He's putting his money on a boy.”
I laugh. “I guess we'll know soon enough,” I say, taking Josh’s hand, squeezing it tightly. I bear down, giving it my all. After several pushes, the clock strikes midnight and our baby is born.
My baby’s sweet cry echoes through the room, and tears flood down my face. Josh is crying too. The nurses are at our side, placing the baby on my chest, and I take in the moment for what it is -- a miracle. It's January 1st and our baby is born at the stroke of 12:01.
“It’s a girl,” the doctor announces, congratulating us and I look down at my baby, my daughter, utterly amazed at the miracle of life. My husband is at my side and my father peeks his head in, even though I am exposed. He's seen me in more compromising positions, I suppose.
“A granddaughter!” he shouts with a grin.
I smile. “Congratulations, Grandpa.”
Josh kisses my forehead, then kisses our baby. I don't want him to let go, and I know he won't. He's the love of my life, my husband, my heart.
“What should we name her?” I ask him.
He looks down at me. “Nova,” he says. “It means new.”
Epilogue 2:
Josh
Ten Years Later…
I walk into the kitchen where the caterers are bustling around and see January with her notepad in hand, ticking items off of the list. Nova bounds in beside me, reaching for my hand.
“Daddy,” she says, did you know there's going to be fireworks at midnight?”
I laugh. “I heard about that. Your grandpa thought that was a good idea.”
She smiles. “It's magic,” she says, twirling around in her pink dress. She's ten years old and a bright light in my life.
January looks over at us, watching as her daughter dances out of the room. I walk over to her, kissing the base of her neck.
“You look beautiful as ever,” I say, my hands on her shoulders, kissing her bare skin. She's in a short emerald green dress with fishnet stockings that have little diamonds set in them.
Her perfect tits are up as high as ever, and her long blonde hair cascades down her back in perfect curls. She is the sexiest entrepreneur I've ever seen. And somehow this woman is my wife.
“You're looking beautiful tonight,” I tell her. “Now, how can I help?”
She exhales, pinching my ass. “Everything is going as planned. I am the queen of delegation.”
“I know that,” I say, chuckling. Over the last eleven years, I've watched January turn an idea for a lingerie business into a multi-million-dollar company. She's been featured on more than the podcast Take Charge. She’s been on the cover of magazines, has given TED talks, and has amazed me as she balances motherhood and being a wife with running a business that not only makes women feel beautiful in the things they wear but helps thousands of women in need.
“It's funny. We've been married a decade and have never had a proper New Year's Eve party,” she says.
“Well, it is the anniversary of when we got engaged. And it’s the night before Nova’s birthday.”
“That's true,” she says, “but this is kind of fun, isn't it? Having our friends over, dancing ‘til dawn.”
“I couldn't agree more,” I say, taking her list from her hand. “Now, what is left on this list?” I ask just as her assistant comes over, ticking off things from her list that she’s just accomplished. The caterers have been paid, and the band is on stage, the valet is handling the cars.
Apparently, everything is covered.
“You weren't joking,” I say, laughing as we walk through the mansion together. January’s father is here with his wife, and my mother even showed up, which is nothing short of a miracle.
Later, with champagne in hand, we greet our guests. All of our friends are in attendance. The house is full, and lights twinkle everywhere, sending a glow throughout our home, while a swing band plays in the corner.
It’s a warm night, and I take my wife’s hand, walking her out onto the veranda, basking in the warm night air.
“Do you ever miss the desert?” she asks.
I chuckle, thinking back to the place I had lived before we got engaged, out in Joshua Tree. “It was good for a season of life, but not for forever.”
“I couldn't do this job without you,” she says. “I wouldn’t have this whole life, this career, without your believing in me.”
“Eventually, your dad will retire, and I will take over,” I say with a laugh. “But until then, I love running the nonprofit side of Unrequited Love.”
“There's no way that could have taken shape the way it has without you at the helm.”
I pull her in for a kiss as people start counting down the New Year clock.
Ten nine, eight. “I love you, January.” I kiss her again.
Seven, six, five. “I love you more, Josh.” I kiss her once more.
Four, three, two. Nova runs over to us, over-tired, and on a sugar high. We pull her into our arms as the clock strikes one.
