I was slowly shaking my head. I wasn’t going to let that happen. I gazed at Adonai as the he hovered up above the trees, hiding from Dewey and Grace.
Suddenly, there was a crash inside the house. Truman had knocked the lantern over, and the table was on fire.
“Oh, you—!” Uncle E shot up to his feet and rushed inside the house. Truman squawked and opened his beak to purge a wave of water over the fire. The flames disappeared, but the water flooded the kitchen and Uncle E slipped onto his chin.
I laughed and watched the old man struggle to catch the mischievous bird. This was going to be an interesting new year.
