“Aw, that’s so romantic,” I joke tweaking his nose, before my expression turns more urgent. “I can’t wait a second longer. I need to feel you moving inside me. Now, Levi.”

“Baby, it’s been a while for me too, but I don’t want to rush this. You only get one first time. I want to make it memorable.”

I tenderly cup his face. “This night has already been memorable. Trust me, I won’t ever forget this.”

He kisses me sweetly, softly, completely at odds with the way he was just eating my face. Pulling back, he peers intently into my face. “Are you sure you want this? With me?”

I lift up and peck his lips. “Yes. I want this with you. I’m not backing out.”

“Thank God,” he murmurs, grinning as he starts kissing his way back down my body. He lavishes attention on my breasts, sucking one nipple, then the other, into his mouth, while molding my flesh with his deft fingers. He presses feather-soft kisses all over my stomach before lowering his mouth to my pussy. I almost stop breathing when he slowly blows across my heated flesh.

Then his mouth is there, and his tongue is going crazy, swiping up and down my folds, thrusting inside me and sucking on the taut bundles of nerves that hold the key to my bliss. I’m writhing on the bed like a wild animal, moaning and whimpering as pressure builds inside me. He plunges two fingers inside me and I scream. When his mouth suctions on my clit, I grab his head, holding him there as I crash through the wall—falling, tumbling, swirling. Swimming in an ocean of pleasure. Levi stays with me, milking every last drop before grabbing a condom from the bedside table and sheathing himself.

My hair is a mass of knots over my face, and my chest is heaving as I come back to earth. “Holy fucking orgasm,” I whisper. “That was incredible.”

He shoots me a cocky smile. “I aim to please.”

He winks, and I laugh, sitting up and pulling him down for a kiss, tasting myself on his lips and reveling in that fact. “Please don’t make me wait any longer. I need you to fuck me.”

“Baby,” he says, nudging at my entrance. “You win. I’m done waiting. I need to feel you clenching around me.” He thrusts into me in one hard, fast move, and I scream out again. He stalls. “You okay?”

“Oh God,” I moan. “I’m more than okay. You feel so good.” I start rocking my hips. “But you need to move, Levi.”

“This is going to be hard and fast, baby. Can’t hold back.”

“Don’t want you to. Fuck me hard. Do it. Do it now.”

He needs no further encouragement, and he starts pounding into me, pulling out and then slamming back in. His fingers dig into my hips, and he hoists one of my legs over his shoulder, pushing deeper into me, his eyes rolling back in his head as he thrusts. Pressure is building inside me again, and I fist my hands in the sheets, arching my back and moaning. He reaches out, fondling my tits and flicking his thumb against my nipple, sending tremors of desire straight to my pussy. Sweat glides down my back as he continues to thrust into me, his movements getting more and more frantic.

“I’m going to come again,” I shout, just as my orgasm hits. He roars his release, joining me in that heavenly space, both of us rocking against one another until we’re fully sated. He collapses alongside me, pulling me into his sweat-slicked chest, keeping our bodies connected. I slide my leg through his and wrap my arms around him, savoring the smell and feel of him. Sex lingers in the air, and I close my eyes, committing everything to memory.

“You okay?” he softly asks, brushing tangled strands of my hair back off my face.

“Never been better,” I tease, stretching up to kiss him. “That was amazing.”

“I’m not sure there are adequate words in the English language to describe it,” he says, pressing a fierce kiss to my forehead. “I can’t lose you, Kota baby. Not now. Not ever.”

I’m startled to see tears pooling at the back of his eyes. “Hey. You won’t lose me. Why would you even think that?”

His face is awash with emotion as he looks at me. “Promise me that, no matter what, you’ll remember this. You’ll remember how good we are together. How much you mean to me.”

I’m not sure where his head has gone to now, or why, but I want to reassure him, to ease whatever his worries are.

“I won’t forget, Levi,” I say, circling my arms around his neck and kissing him. “I promise I’ll remember.”

  CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

  Dakota

Levi and I stroll into class together on Thursday, hand in hand, and Tabs jumps up from her chair, clapping her hands like an overexcited seal. “He shoots! He scores!” she squeals, and I burst out laughing. Edging out of the row, she jumps me, hugging me to death and whispering none too quietly in my ear. “Scale of one to ten, how was it?”

“Off the scale,” Levi replies, winking as he wraps his arms around me from behind, forcing Tabs to let go. “She totally rocked my world,” he adds, pressing a quick kiss to my cheek.

He totally rocked mine. I’m surviving on less than three hours’ sleep because Levi kept his promise, fucking me nonstop most of the night, and I loved every delicious, sexy moment of it. He physically had to drag my ass out of bed this morning.

“Judging by the “I was just fucked every which way to Sunday” look on Kota’s face, I’d say you gave as good as you got.” She thumps Levi on the shoulder. “Good on ya, stud.”

“I’d swear you were a guy in a previous lifetime,” Elsa says to Tabs over her shoulder, rolling her eyes. “You’ve definitely got the dirty mouth to prove it.”

“I’m just really happy these guys finally got it together. The sexual tension has been killing me.”

Laughter tumbles out of my mouth again. “Didn’t you get your fix Friday night?”

“Pft.” She scoffs, her lips pulling into a disgusted line. “I thought football players knew what they were doing, but it was all wham, bam, thank you, ma’am, with that guy. And his cock was about as impressive as his fucking expertise.”

“Ouch.” Levi grins. “His name wasn’t Cole by any chance, was it?”

I laugh, pleased that he seems to have fully put Friday night, and any jealousy concerning my ex, behind him. I take my seat as the professor walks into the room, and Levi slides in the far side of me, possessively slinging his arm around my shoulders.

Paying attention in class becomes an impossibility.

Levi doesn’t miss any opportunity to slyly touch me. Brushing his lips against my cheek when he thinks no one is looking. Creeping his hand up my leg when he believes he can get away with it. Nuzzling his face into my hair and sighing when the prof turns his back to the room.

When class ends, I scan the half page of scattered notes on my pad with a smile. If I was serious about accountancy and planning on hanging around, I might be mad at him for distracting me. But my tuition is only paid to the end of the semester, and then I’m cut off. I still have no clue what I’m going to do, and I really need to start prioritizing my future.

But, right now, I want to focus on the hot guy copping a cheeky feel of my ass as I make my way out of the auditorium. We hang back behind the others as we head toward the cafeteria, sneaking sly kisses, and I just can’t keep my hands off him. The feeling seems to be mutual, and he’s always touching me.

“God, you two are so darn cute,” Elsa says as we enter the massive hall.

“Making up for lost time,” Levi quips, darting in to kiss me on the lips.

As we stand in line, he keeps his hand on my hip, whispering all the dirty stuff he plans to do to me when we get home. I lean back against him, almost pinching myself. I can’t believe I have this with him. That it feels so perfect. So real. So right.

I don’t miss the daggers shot my direction as we walk to our seats. Jealousy almost percolates the air. Excepting our group, Levi doesn’t mix with any other students, especially girls, and I know that means
I’ve just made a host of automatic enemies. But nothing could dampen my good mood.

We eat in a hurry and then say our goodbyes before Tabs can slip a dirty comment in. We take our time strolling the few blocks to his apartment, chatting casually as we walk. His fingers twirl in my hair and I lean up and press kisses to the underside of his jaw every so often. It’s so natural being with him like this, as if I’ve always known him.

I shriek the minute we step foot in the penthouse when he sweeps my feet out from under me, tossing me over his shoulder. “What are you doing, you crazy ass?!” I laugh, beating my fists against his back as he strides with purpose through the living area.

“Be quiet, woman,” he jokes, slapping my butt. “Trust me, you won’t be complaining in a few minutes.”

And he’s right. He strips my clothes off, tantalizingly slowly, before pushing me back on the bed and devouring every part of me with his mouth. When his head lowers to the apex of my thighs, I squirm with anticipation, shouting his name as his tongue goes to town on me. My orgasm catches me off guard, sweeping through me with urgency, and I’m shouting his name repeatedly as waves of ecstasy wash over me. Flipping me over onto my stomach, he pulls my knees up and spreads me, slapping my ass cheeks firmly, and warmth leaks from my still-quivering pussy. “Are you sore after last night baby?” he asks, as I hear the tear of a condom wrapper.

“Nope,” I lie. “Give it to me hard, stud. Just how I like it.”

He slams into me without warning and I scream.

“I love how enthusiastic you are,” he grunts, fucking me in sharp, quick thrusts. “And I love how you shout out my name when you come. It really fucking turns me on.”

“Oh, God,” I moan as he plunges deep, hitting the right spot.

“Not God, baby. Just … Levi.”

“Well, just Levi,” I say a couple of hours later. “I think I’m well and truly fucked.” I try to move but I can’t. “I can’t feel my legs anymore. I think you broke me.”

He chuckles. “I can’t feel my cock. I think you rode me to death.”

Now it’s my turn to giggle. “I never knew it could be this good,” I murmur, curling into his side and drawing swirls on his bare chest with the tip of my finger. “I’m almost afraid to ask how you came to be this experienced.”

He grumbles. “Let’s not go there. The past is in the past.”

“Agreed, and what you did before me doesn’t bother me. I prefer to focus on the here and now because it’s not like we can do anything to change what’s come before.”

“You’re right, even if I do wish I could erase most of the women I’ve been with.”

“I almost feel sorry for them.”

“Don’t.” He places a gentle kiss to my temple. “None of them cared about me. It was all about what they could get out of it. How they could exploit it for personal gain.”

“What do you mean?” I prop up on an elbow, looking inquisitively at him. He throws his arm over his face, and his chest visibly rises and falls. “Levi?”

“Nothing,” he says, removing his arm and letting me see his beautiful face. “Just that none of them were memorable, and I wish they hadn’t happened.” He smiles, but it doesn’t quite meet his eyes. I get the sense there’s a lot more to be said, but I decide to be magnanimous. Talking about exes is pointless anyway, so I’ll give him a free pass. “What about you?”

“You don’t have much to worry about. The only guy I’ve slept with is Cole, but he was a total horndog, and I’m pretty much open to anything, so …”

“Ugh!” He scrubs a hand over his face. “Now I really want to smash my fist in his face.”

I kiss him softly. “It’s in the past, and the only one I plan on sleeping with going forward is you.”

Saturday arrives, and Levi comes with me to visit Mom. On all other occasions, he waited out in the car, but, now that we’re together, I want Mom to meet him. Not that it will register. She’s still barely coherent when I visit, but the doctors have told me her rehabilitation will take time and patience.

“Hi, Mom,” I say, entering the room and kissing her cheek. She’s sitting in a comfy chair by the wide window that overlooks the impressive lawn outside, staring off into space.

A loud grunt emits from the other side of the room, and Levi’s eyes widen in alarm. He stares at the curtain pulled around the second bed. “That’s her roomie,” I murmur in a low voice. “Poor woman had a stroke at forty, and she’s been in here ever since. She can’t speak and she struggles to comprehend what people are saying. It’s really sad. I met her daughter the second time I visited, and she broke down in tears telling me about her.”

Grabbing Levi’s hand, I pull him over to the small couch, and we sit down in front of Mom. She hasn’t even acknowledged us yet. “Mom, I’d like you to meet someone. This is Levi.” She doesn’t look at him or me, and I deflate a little inside. A teeny, tiny part of me had hoped bringing someone new in to meet her might pique her interest.

He squeezes my hand. I had warned him in the car on the drive here what it’d be like. “It’s very nice to meet you, Valerie. I’m Levi, Dakota’s boyfriend. I brought you some orchid lilies. Dakota mentioned they were your favorite.”

I lace my fingers in his as he places the vase and flowers on the windowsill beside her. We stay chatting for a half hour, but it’s all one-sided. Mom doesn’t respond or make any indication that she knows we’re here. After a while, I can’t keep the fake smile plastered on my face anymore. I glance at him. “Let’s go,” I mouth, and he nods.

“Bye, Momma.” I lean down and kiss her cheek. “I’ll be back to see you next week.” My voice catches, and I squeeze my eyes shut to stall the tears.

Levi places a comforting hand on my lower back as he, too, bends over and kisses Mom on the cheek. “It was lovely to meet you, Valerie. Thank you for raising such a wonderful daughter, and I want you to know I care about her a lot.”

My legs almost give way when Mom clutches his arm suddenly, eyeballing him with a lucidity I haven’t seen since that awful night back at the house. I gasp when she smiles. “Look after my baby,” she whispers, and tears roll down my face when he crouches down, caressing her cheek.

  “I promise I will.”

I grab hold of his hand and don’t let go as we leave the facility. The instant we are outside, I burst into tears, and he doesn’t hesitate, wrapping his arms around me. He holds me while I cry. “Sorry,” I sniffle. “I just hate seeing her like that, and then, when she said that to you, it’s exactly what I needed to know that she is listening. That she does know I’m here. That some part of her is aware of what’s happening.”

He runs his hand up and down my back, pressing soft kisses to the top of my head. “She’ll get better, babe, and this place seems to be good, although it’s a shame she’s not in a private room.”

“Dad wouldn’t sign the paperwork for the insurance to upgrade her. I know it would be more comfortable for her to be in her own room, but it’s not so bad. At least she’s in the right place to get the help she needs.”

“Dakota.” He calls my name out from behind, and a chill creeps over my spine. Slowly, I turn and face my father, securing Levi’s arms around me. I can feel his body tense up.

  “Dad.”

“Could we talk in private, please?” He glares at Levi, and I’ve no doubt Levi is returning his hostile stare.

“Whatever you need to say can be said in front of my boyfriend.”

If he’s shocked by the news, he doesn’t show it. He gestures toward a bench at the front part of the lawn, and we walk over and sit down.

“There’s no easy way to say this, so I’ll just come right out with it.” He has the decency to look somewhat embarrassed. “I’m divorcing your mother.” I stare at him in shock, refusing to believe my ears. “I know you don’t approve, and I know I’ve made terrible mistake
s, but I need to do this because I … I’m going to be a father again.”

“What?” I scramble to my feet, horrified.

He stands. “I didn’t plan this, and I wouldn’t have left your mother, but I can’t let Monique down, and I …” He looks down at his shoes. “I can’t do this anymore. I can’t watch what her death has done to all of us. I just can’t deal with it. It’s better this way.”

  “So, you’re just abandoning us?”

“I won’t withhold your trust fund, and I won’t force you to stay in U of I. I know you don’t want to be there, and I think it’s best if you don’t come to work with me, given the circumstances. There’s enough money in your fund to cover Juilliard, if they’ll give you your place back. If not, it’s up to you what you do with the funds. I’ll assign the paperwork next week and have the documentation overnighted to you.”

“I can’t believe you’re doing this. I can’t believe you’re leaving my mom. The woman you promised to love forever!” I say in a raised, angry tone of voice. Levi tightens his arms around me, and I cling to him for support.

“Things change, Dakota. Our marriage ended the night your sister died. It’s too much. A constant reminder of her loss. I can’t continue to live like this.”

“Her name is Layla,” I spit. “And we lost her too, but you don’t see me walking away from my responsibilities.”

He looks over his shoulder, and I notice the petite girl with the mass of black corkscrew curls leaning against the side of his car. Bile swirls in my mouth as my eyes roam over her obvious baby bump. “You brought her here?” I turn disgusted eyes on my dad. “And how old is she? She barely looks older than me.”

He winces a little. “Please don’t make a scene. Monique’s having a difficult time with the pregnancy.”

“Poor Monique,” I hiss. “I guess that’s what you get for screwing a married man behind his sick wife’s back.”
