The more I thought about it the more I did not like the idea of the house being fixed up. Its looming façade hunted me even when I could not see it. By the time I drove to the house, I knew what I had to do.
The contractors were still setting up outside, removing things they needed from the van. I walked in without them realizing and headed for the nearest socket.
The wiring of the house was so horrible that it didn't take long for the fire to start going. I started it and rushed out as fast as I could.
By the time I got to the car the fire had started blazing. I stood there and watched the hungry fire swallow the dry old wood the house was made of. The contractors panicked and started running around. Their boss managed to get in the van and dial the fire department.
By the time the firefighters would come here, the house would be so far gone my father will have no choice but to collect the insurance and build something new. Something without the mark of death on it. And this way, there will be nothing for the ghosts to haunt anymore.
