“Kate, help me please,” Roger said, reaching for her. Ignoring him, Kate ran into the house, her mind solely focused on Neil. She grabbed the phone in the living room and dialed 911 as she ran up the stairs, explaining the situation to the dispatcher and pleading for immediate help. She still didn’t know if Neil was dead or alive. She rushed to the terrace and put the phone down as she knelt beside to her husband. She touched his neck to feel for a pulse. Relief flooded her body when she felt the rhythm of Neil’s heartbeat.

“Thank God!” she cried. “Neil, can you hear me?”

Kate lifted his head and placed it on her lap. She glided her hand over Neil’s cheek and looked into his eyes. “Baby, help is on the way. Can you talk?”

Neil couldn’t speak. He was paralyzed, but he kept his eyes on Kate. She picked up the phone. “My husband is still alive. He’s been drugged. Please hurry.” As the words escaped her mouth, she heard sirens blaring in the background.

“Baby, I’m going to go meet the ambulance. I’ll be right back. Please don’t leave me. I love you so much,” she said, kissing her husband on the lips.

  Epilogue

Kate sat on the terrace of her home thinking back to the terrifying night that had ultimately freed her from Roger. Being impaled by the fin of the dolphin had killed him. He didn’t even make it to the hospital. David had always told her that dolphins were a lucky sign. If it hadn’t been for that iron dolphin, Roger might have survived the fall.

At the hospital, the doctor explained Kate’s superhuman strength when faced with the possibility of Roger having killed Neil. It was the same adrenaline that gave mothers the power to lift cars off their trapped children. Fortunately, the drug only lasted a few hours and Neil was able to go home the next day. The authorities had removed the body and when Neil’s family learned of what had happened, they had hired a cleaning crew to remove all evidence of Roger’s presence. Roger’s foster mother had been convicted of killing his real mother, just like Roger thought she had. Even more disturbingly, several more bodies were discovered on the property, and the verdict of a life sentence was rendered; justice for the many lives they had destroyed.

Since Jacob had dual citizenship, he went back to live with his grandmother in Germany a few months after Roger died. Kate hoped that over time he would heal and be okay. Losing both parents at such a young age was going to have a huge impact on his life. At least he had youth on his side and may not have that many memories of his father.

Detective Jameson had filled Kate in on Jacob, and also informed her of how the families were coping with the devastation that Roger had inflicted upon them, slowly rebuilding their lives. Rick’s wife, Darcy, finally found closure, knowing that Rick was dead, not missing. She was moving on in her life with one of the police officers that had been keeping her informed about Roger. Rose’s family were still mourning the loss of her life, especially her daughters. But, their grandparents did everything they could to make the girls feel safe and secure.

Laura resigned before they returned from their honeymoon. She had found a job with another firm and was dating a lawyer who had been affiliated with the firm, but didn’t work with them directly.

A terrible accident had radically altered Charlie and Mitch’s lives. Kate’s heart ached for what they were going through. At the moment, they were torn apart and the only thing that could change their circumstances was a miracle. Kate prayed for them every day, and did her best to be there for them.

Kate wasn’t going to ever let the past rule her future again. She had wasted too many years doing that after David died. For a while she had regretted that time in her life, but now she saw it as a gift. Not David’s death, of course, but the part where she worked on herself and found her way in life, found peace, and then, found her way to Neil. She could look back now and see how going through that pain had made her into the person that she wanted to be.

Now as Neil’s wife, and soon to be mother of his child, she was in such a better place. She had taken a home pregnancy test a few days before, and was waiting for just the right moment to tell her husband that he was going to be a father. It was their first anniversary, so such a momentous announcement fit well with such a night. Kate had bought a picture frame that had the words “Daddy and Me” on it. She looked forward to watching his reaction, and knew that he would make an amazing father to their children. Their first year had been wonderful. His attentive loving, and mischievous, cocky nature, made life with him, fun. He couldn’t be a better husband if she had designed him herself.

  The End

Beholden to You is my upcoming story about Mac and Natalie’s relationship. What is their secret that they are keeping from their friends?

Forgotten by You is Mitch and Charlie’s story about their heartbreak. Will they be able to find their way back to each other before it’s too late?

Chosen by You is Michelle’s story. Will she ever heal from the loss of her college sweetheart and find love again?

These are my upcoming books and of course Kate and Neil will be in each one of them. I hope you have enjoyed reading about Kate and Neil as much as I have enjoyed writing about them.

I would love to read your review of the series. Please post a review on Amazon!
