There was a loophole in the paperwork. The clause stated the debt would be released if a child of Clint and Rebekah Taylor married a child of Louis and Helena Chastain. A child, not Sofia specifically. No names were printed in the paperwork. He’d read it so many times he practically had the text memorized.

“Why am I a genius this time?” Rory asked, completely unfazed by Caleb’s excitement.

  “Because,” Caleb said excitedly.

Because if Louis Chastain could use a contract to pressure Caleb into marriage, then he could use a contract to temporarily marry Julien. He could take some control over his future. His sexuality didn’t matter; it’d be a legal arrangement, nothing more. Caleb wouldn’t have to deceive anyone — other than Louis Chastain, who’d done more than his share of deceiving.

  Karma, anyone?

Once Bliss was out of trouble, it would free up a good deal of equity they could use to refinance some of their other debt at a better rate. This loan of Louis Chastain’s could actually be their salvation once everything was said and done.

Assuming he could find Julien and get him to say yes.

“Caleb?” Rory prompted. “You still with me?”

Caleb threw back the rest of his drink and grinned. “Rory, not only am I here, but I’m better than ever.”

“I see that,” Rory said with a chuckle. “But why?”

“Because I’m going to ask Julien Chastain to marry me.”

  About the Author

DJ Jamison is the author of more than a dozen m/m romances, including the Ashe Sentinel series and the Hearts and Health series. She writes a variety of queer characters, from gay to bisexual to asexual, with a focus on telling love stories that are more about common ground than lust at first sight. DJ grew up in the Midwest in a working-class family, and those influences can be found in her writing through characters coping with real-life problems: money troubles, workplace drama, family conflicts and, of course, falling in love. DJ spent more than a decade in the newspaper industry before chasing her first dream to write fiction. She spent a lifetime reading before that and continues to avidly devour her fellow authors’ books each night. She lives in Kansas with her husband, two sons, two fish, one snake, and a sadistic cat named Birdie.
