Monica grabs her cellphone and starts dialing her dad’s number.
“Hi daddy. How’s my baby girl?”
“She’s coloring with grandma. Did you guys just get there?”
“No we’ve been here. Jake has been site seeing.” Monica winks at Jake. Jake throws his hands in the air and quietly laughs shaking his head in disbelief Monica blamed him.
“Do you guys like it?”
“Yes this place is so beautiful.”
“Well you guys get back on your honeymoon. Did you want to say his to Ella?”
“No daddy. I don’t want her crying if she hears my voice. Just give her hugs and kisses from us.”
“Will do. I love you sweetheart. You guys have fun and enjoy.”
“Love you too daddy.”
Monica hangs up, and Jake demands an answer.
“Why did you blame me for not calling right away?”
“Well it was your fault. You were site seeing and you couldn’t keep your eyes away.” Monica waves her hands all down her body.
“You’re right. I have to see everything down there.”
Room service arrives, and they stay in their bungalows enjoying their private exotic time together. They swim in their bungalows naked then order more room service. They eat, drink alcohol, rent movies, then they start all over again. The only time they put their swimsuits on was when they room service came, and when they swim outside their bungalows. Jake drive homes from the airport, with the ac cranked up, country music blasting, and he holds Monica’s hand while she sleeps. He dreams of the moment they get home. “Hey what about me? I missed you too.”
“I miss you to mom-e.”
Monica give hers parents hugs and kisses, and Jake hugs Lauren and shakes John’s hands while he’s still carrying Ella. He sits on the couch, listening to Ella tell him everything her and her grandparents did while they were away. With it being so late in the evening, Ella starts yawning. Monica gets her, walks to the guest house and tucks her in bed. Jake grabs their suitcases, thanks John and Lauren for watching Ella, and heads to the guest house. He sets the suitcases aside, and tries looking for Monica. He finally finds her lying in bed with Ella. She watches her while she sleeps. Jake lay on the other side of Ella and he too watches her. He places his hand on top of Monica’s hand that’s wrapped on Ella. Jake and Monica close their eyes, and they sleep there with their daughter.
Jake hears something by the pool; he gets up slowly while Ella and Monica are still sleeping. He opens the door, and sees John starting the barbeque pit.
“Oh I’m sorry. Did I wake you guys up?”
“No. Ella and Monica are still sleeping.”
“I figured I can barbeque while Ella swims.”
“Huh?”
“Yesterday Ella said she wanted to swim with you guys today.”
“Oh ok. Yeah that sounds like a plan.”
“Funny huh?”
“What?”
“How having kids changes our plans. How they make plans for us.”
“Yeah tell me about it.” Jake scratches his head.
“That little girl is something else. She adores you and Monica.”
“Thanks to her, Monica and I are together right now.”
They both stand their silent, thinking of how much Ella impacted their lives. She brought her parents back together.
“Did you guys enjoy y’alls vacation?”
“Yes sir we did. Monica had a blast.”
“Did you?”
If John only knew how much Jake enjoyed Bora Bora with his daughter. But of course Jake isn’t going to tell John that.
“Yes sir I did. Did you need any help?”
“I got this son.”
Monica opens the door still half asleep, “What’s going on?”
“Ella wants us to go swimming with her today, so swimming it is.”
“She’s still sleeping.” Monica stretches her arms in the air.
“Well whenever she wakes up, the food will be ready, and we can go swimming with her.” Jake motions Monica to come closer to him.
Monica walks up, and Jake gives her a peck on her forehead. She sits on the lounge chair, still wearing her clothes from last night.
John looks at her then at Jake, “Y’all run out of clean clothes?”
They look down at what they’re wearing, and Monica explains to her dad that they were too tire to change, and they’ve missed Ella so much, they decided to sleep with her in her bed. Lauren comes outside with the house phone.
“Monica, Kelly’s on the phone. She said she’s been
calling your cell, and the guest house phone, but you’re not answering.”
“Oh I didn’t hear any of them ring.” Monica reaches for the phone. “Hello.”
“What are you guys doing?”
“We’re sitting here watching my dad barbeque. What are you guys doing?”
“Nothing. I have some good news. Can Josh and I come over?”
“Yeah come on over. Bring y’alls swimsuits.”
“Ok. Love you.”
“I love you too babe.”
Monica hands the phone back to her mom and tells everyone Josh and Kelly are coming to spend the day with them. Jake and Monica checks on Ella, and she’s still asleep. They get ready, while she’s still in bed. Thirty minutes later, Josh and Kelly arrive. Kelly didn’t have to tell Monica what the good news was, because Monica sees it on Kelly’s left hand.
“Oh my god Kelly. You’re engaged.” Monica cheers.
“Yes. I know. I’m so happy.”
“I’m so happy for you. Oh my god.”
“He asked me yesterday.”
Monica hits Josh on his stomach, “You better treat her right, or I will have to kick your ass.”
“Monica. Watch you language.” Lauren demands Monica to stop cursing.
“Well I want him to know I mean business. He better treat my best friend right.”
“Ah, I might enjoy you beating my ass.”
Monica blushes, while Jake glares at Josh. That was awkward.
“You better leave my best friend alone. Her husband will kick your ass.” Kelly laughs.
“Well damn, everybody’s going to kick each other’s ass.” John jokes.
“Oh my god. I wish you guys stop saying that word.” Lauren covers her mouth.
Ella opens the door looking for her mommy and daddy. Monica holds out her arms, Ella runs to her, and sits on her lap. Monica takes her to the guest house, so Ella can brush her teeth, and put her swimsuit on. Kelly follows them inside.
As Monica walks away, Josh watches her with the corner of his eye. Jake notices. He takes a deep breathe. What’s going on with Josh? Why is he all of a sudden interested in flirting with Monica? Didn’t he ask Kelly to marry him yesterday Jake thought? Why doesn’t it bother Kelly that Josh is flirting with Monica.
Kelly gets in the water waiting for Monica and Ella to get in. Jake and Josh sit and watch John barbeque.
“So Josh where are you working at now?” John tries to start a conversation to ease the tension between Jake and John.
“I work in Midland sir. I’m a roughneck. I work one month on and one month off.”
“Oh I see. How do you like it?”
“It pays the bills. I miss home sometimes, but oh well.”
“Does Kelly go up there with you for the month you’re working?”
“Not the whole month. She’ll stay days here and there.”
“So what are y’alls plans after you two get married?”
“I haven’t thought that far yet sir. I just asked her yesterday.”
John stops asking questions. If he asks more questions, he knows he’ll end up telling Josh what he really thinks. If you’re going to ask a woman to marry you and spend your whole life with this person, shouldn’t you have some kind of idea on what you want to do with y’alls life? Shouldn’t you have some kind of plan?
“So I’m guessing Kelly is worth all that trouble huh?” Jake reminds Josh of his words when he found out Jake wanted to stay with Monica when everybody thought she was pregnant with Clint’s baby.
“Bro, seeing how you and Monica are with each other, made me think that’s how I want my life. I want a great woman by my side.”
“So you think Kelly is a great woman right.”
“Yeah I guess.”
“What do you mean you guess bro? How do you not know how your woman is?”
“We’ve been together for awhile now, so I figured that was the next step. For her to marry me.”
“Marry her, because you love her and want to spend your whole life with her. Don’t marry her because you feel obligated to.”
“Is that how you feel with Monica? You want to spend your whole life with her?”
“Yes bro I do.”
Josh stays quiet, and Monica and Ella walk back outside. Ella walks over to the diving board, and jumps into the pool. She’s such a great swimmer. It’s like she was a fish at some other life time. Monica unbuttons her shorts, and Jake walks over and quietly asks her to change her bikini into a one piece.
“What? Why baby? What’s going on?”
“Josh’s been flirting with you, and I would just feel more comfortable if you changed.”
“Well how dumb will you and I look if as I’m unbuttoning my shorts, you walk over her and ask me to change from my bikini into a one piece? They’re going to know something is up.”
“Ok. But please don’t be by yourself with him.”
“I promise babe. You can trust.” Monica kisses him on his lips.
“Baby it’s not you I’m worried about. It’s the horny bastard that won’t stop eyeing my wife.”
“I though you liked it when other guys looked at me, because you know you have what they don’t have?”
“Yeah, it’s ok to look at you, but once they cross that line, and start flirting and saying they’ll enjoy you putting your hands on them, then that doesn’t work well with me.”
“I understand babe. I promise I won’t be by myself with him.”
Jake wraps his arms around Monica, and he slowly kisses her, and she stops him before she brings him inside and does more than kiss. He blocks her from everyone while she takes her shorts and shirt off. She walks over to the steps, and takes baby steps getting in the pool because the water is so cold. Lauren covers herself with sunblock, and stays under the umbrella. John finishes barbequing and sits under the umbrella with Lauren.
“Dear did you hear what Josh was saying?”
“How couldn’t I hear? I was standing between him and Jake.”
“I hope he doesn’t cause any trouble?”
“I know Monica felt awkward when he said that.”
“I felt awkward for her. How is he going to say that with his fiancé and best friend is standing right there?”
John looks over to Jake and Josh, and their having an intense conversation. Whatever they’re talking about, you can tell Jake is expressing his feelings about something. He walks away shaking his head and pointing his finger at Josh, and he gets in the pool with his wife and daughter.
“Josh come in. It feels great.” Kelly playfully invites him.
Josh gets in the pool, and when Kelly tries to give him a kiss on his lips, he turns his head landing her kiss on his checks. What’s his problem Kelly asks herself? Why is he acting standoffish now? What did Jake tell him for him to be all pissed?
“Mom-e I’m hungee.”
“Ok munchkin. I’ll get you something to eat.”
As Monica tries to get out of the pool with Ella, Lauren tells Monica she’ll prepare her food for her, and for Monica to stay in the pool. Jake helps Ella out of the pool, and hands her to Lauren.
“Are you having fun swimming sweetheart?”
“Yes gwapa.” Ella swings her feet back and forth while she sits on the chair enjoying her hotdog.
John tells Ella she has to wait a little bit before she can go back in the pool, so her tummy wouldn’t hurt, since she just ate. He sits by her, while she sings her ABCs to him.
“Well now can you count for your grandpa?” Lauren encourages Ella to try.
She tries to count to twenty, and then asks if she can go swim with her mommy and daddy now. John asks if she can sing him the ABCs one more time, then she can go swim, so she does.
“Are y’all ready to move away from your parents?” Kelly questions.
“In a way yeah, but then in a way no.”
“Y’all don’t want your own place?”
“We do but they are such a big help. And Ella loves spending time
with them. But it’ll be a good change though. To be able to have a place we call our own. Plus they said it will probably take six months to a year to build our home depending on how I want it, so we’ll be here a little longer.”
“I can’t believe your parents bought y’all that much land.”
“I know. Shit you guys can build your home on our land.”
“What are you talking about? Everybody and their momma can build their home on your land.”

Jake has been really busy at work lately. John wants him to learn everything, so he’s been given more responsibilities then the other workers. They’ve started building their home, and Monica has been stopping by checking up on the contractors making sure everything is being built with her specifications. Jake and Monica both decided it was best if she stays home to take care of Ella while he works.
With him working so much, Monica has lunch dates with him on Thursdays. Mondays thru Fridays, the house is cleaned, dinner is served, Ella is taken care of, and Monica still manages to cater to Jake’s needs at night. Monica does the typical wifely and motherly duties while Jake does his job, and supports his family.
On their first wedding anniversary, Monica treats him with a fishing trip for two. Monica wasn’t surprise Jake wanted her father to tag along. John loves fishing, and with working so much, he hasn’t had the time to take his fishing boat in the water. Jake and John will be out in the Gulf for three days and three nights. In exchange, Jake treated Monica with an all-inclusive spa treatment. Monica paid extra to take her mom along. She felt her mom deserves a day of pampering with all she has done for them. Kelly volunteered to babysit Ella while they’re out enjoying their leisure time.
“Are you guys packed?” Monica wraps her arms around Jake’s waist.
He leans in, gives her a kiss, “I think I’m more excited than your dad is.”
“Well you should be. It’s your anniversary gift.”
“I know. And I’m going to bring home a big fish for us to cook.”
“You do that.” She nibbles on his bottom lip.
“You and your mom enjoy getting spoiled Saturday.”
“Oh we will. Thanks for paying for her too. She really needs a day of pampering.”
