Vampires of the Plains (Book 2): Blood Tells True Page 17

by Alan Ryker

It did. It had to stop.

Jessica could feel the rotation of the Earth. She figured that it was just a bad concussion. She could hear and feel her heartbeat throughout her entire body, because everything hurt. Everything hurt. Her head, her left hand, her left arm, both shoulders, her spine, her hips, all the way down her left leg, everything hurt. And everywhere she was injured, she felt her heartbeat. Every single beat of her stupid goddamned heart brought her pain.

She was glad Jack left. She wanted to be alone. But not to do this anymore. It had to stop.

Eventually, she noticed another rhythmic pounding. She couldn't say when it had started. It was a hollow, metal booming. It came from across the yard. From inside the grain silo.

  A vampire.

It had to stop—but it couldn't.

  It never ended.

“What Alan Ryker can do in 132 pages puts to shame most of the 400 plus page horror books I have read. I am forever a fan.”

  -Novel Opinion.org

“It's a bloody rip roaring tale that gallops past quickly.”

A naive student finds that his crumbling bedsit can be as haunted as any Gothic mansion.

A man stumbles across another world which is the mirror image of his own.

A young woman who everyone thinks is beautiful wonders why, given what she sees in the mirror each morning.

The Other Room by James Everington contains twelve new and previously published stories of the uncanny that will challenge your conceptions of horror and literary fiction.

“The horror angle in the stories is almost always a metaphor for other things – loneliness, fear, isolation, regret. The word “haunting” really does double duty here... Beautifully written, evocative, masterful...what shines through these stories is the author’s love of language."
