Adrienne glanced at Bane thinking that he had lost his mind. That’s not the Wilder she knows. He wouldn’t send her away just because he thought Bane had sex with her. He’s a man that allowed his brother’s in her bed. But then he’s not a man. He’s a werewolf too, and that’s where the problem lies.
Adrienne held her breath and sighed. She didn’t want to spend another night closed up with Bane. She knew what would happen during the time of the full moon. He would be forced to take her whether he wanted to or not. He had no discipline. He wasn’t like Wilder and the others. He was raised in the woods in a pack with bloodthirsty werewolves.
Bane and Adrienne didn’t talk much as the truck zoomed down the highway. They were both thinking about Wilder. He had to get her to the north before the Samsas caught up with him. He wondered whether his pack had slowed them down. But now Adrienne complained every few miles, and he’s forced to stop. Bane blamed himself for treating her different from the werefemales.
He let her get to him in their short time together. He never should have slept with her in bed. Somehow in the night they bonded. Somehow in the night he fell in love. But how could he know love. That’s an emotion for man. He’s a werewolf driven by his instincts, not by passion.
She was right, if he wanted her as his mate, he would have to take care of her. At least until he could get home to his pack of rogue wolves. Then he could behave like himself again. The beast that he is. Not the half human he’s afraid of around Adrienne; not the passionate fool who will sacrifice the werewolf part of him to satisfy a woman.
“There is a hotel and it looks like one with room service. I hope you have some money,” Adrienne says testing and trying to wear away his tough and hard demeanor.
“I said I did. But that hotel will call too much attention to us. Look how we’re dressed.”
“This is my people. Humans don’t care what you look like as long as you can pay your way. And I can get fresh clothes in the shops in there.” Adrienne was trying her best to delay Bane, but she was also concerned about her health and the health of her pups.
Bane didn’t want to stop. He was forced by his passion for the human. He pulled the truck in and Adrienne said, “Give me some money. I’ll get the room.” Since when did he concede to her wishes? Something about this female had caused a slight change in Bane. He found that he wanted to please her. So he pulled a hand full of hundreds out of his pocket and handed it to her.
“What no credit card?” she said tilting her head and looking amused with a closed smile. Bane narrowed his gaze. “Very well, money will do,” she said shooting him a wide smile. She opened the door and tried to hop out of the truck after placing both hands on her back and said, “I can’t take this truck anymore. You will have to buy a new one. I have my eyes on a new Range Rover.”
Adrienne would say anything now to get under his skin. She wondered if he would fall for her charade. Her plan was to push his limits while she could.
“Stay where you are. I’m coming with you.” Bane was out of the truck in a second standing near Adrienne. “If you think I trust you, then you don’t know werewolves. I can buy you anything you want, but where we’re going we don’t use Range Rovers.”
“What do you use?” Adrienne’s tone was sharp. She kept walking ahead of Bane as he walked behind her, which was a first. She had taken control of him and the situation, and he didn’t see it coming. He looked at her smiling.
“Sleds and dogs.” Those words escaped her and she didn’t take note of it.
Standing at the desk, she tapped her fingers as the young blond girl about twenty three, Adrienne’s age, eyed Bane. She couldn’t keep her eyes off him, and Adrienne noticed. She wasn’t looking at him because he was dress shabby, or had a three day old growth of hair on his face. She watched at him because she hadn’t seen a handsome specimen of a man like him in her young life. And she has never seen the Samsa brothers either, Adrienne thought.
“We’d like a room with two queen beds,” Adrienne said. The clerk smiled at Bane who didn’t appear to notice anyone but Adrienne. “I’m pregnant. And he can be a little rough at night. Talks in his sleep and even howls,” she smirks, leaning and facing the blond girl. “You know what animals men can be when they don’t get what they want.” She raises her eyebrows.
The blond girl smiled as she gazed at Bane with an I-want-to-fuck-you smile. She bit her bottom lip, passing her tongue along the rim of her lips, and coyly opened her mouth just wide enough for Bane to measure it.
Adrienne cocked her head to the side and waited. The blond girl caught herself and snapped back from her day dream about Bane.
“In that case you may want a room on the top floor. It’s usually vacant this time of the year. We have a beautiful suite for two hundred more. It’s a bargain.”
“Sure. He’s rich. Is it too late to get room service?”
“Oh heavens no. Open until twelve midnight.”
“Good.” Adrienne handed her seven hundred dollars. The girl directed them to the elevator, after passing her tongue across her lips, and on a few occasions licking her lips watching at Bane. They stood waiting for the door to open and when it did, two men stepped off the elevator and glanced over at Adrienne.
“What are you looking at?” Bane said infuriated at the attention Adrienne was getting from the men. “She’s pregnant. Have some respect,” he growled.
“I don’t need you to monitor me. They were just looking. I don’t like you acting like a jealous husband. I can’t get used to the new you.”
“There is no new me. I’m still Bane the head Alpha of my pack.”
“I think you forgot one thing, and that’s a thing of the past. You surrendered that when you decided to kidnap me, or did you forget. I can still talk to Wilder. If you molest me, there is nothing I can say that will keep him from killing you.”
“I haven’t forgotten anything. And there is nothing you can do if I wanted to molest you. And as far as Wilder, and his brothers killing me, I don’t think they have a chance. First they have to find us. Do you see them?” The door opened on the fourteenth floor and they stepped off and walked to the last room, and Bane opened the door to a beautiful decorated suite with a living area and two bedrooms.
“Oh this is wonderful.” Adrienne ran to the phone and placed an order for food after asking Bane if he wanted anything. He promptly said no. Then she called down to a shop to order clothes. Turning looking at Bane she said, “I will need more money.”
Bane pulled out a large stack of hundreds and handed it to her. “Here, take all of it. I don’t need it.” He was perplexed at how fast Adrienne could spend money and how fast it disappeared. He never had a need for it. The werewolves in his pack farmed and grew what they ate, and sold the rest. They hunted meat for their own consumption. The money they made from farming they kept it within the pack. No banks for them.
Adrienne smiled. She enjoyed the few moments Bane had given in to her. She knew the importance of having her own money. However, she rarely thought about it since she had been with the Samsas. She just shopped at their stores and got the things she needed without the use of money. But then she had never ventured out except to visit her parents and Drayton accompanied her. Adrienne hadn’t seen a hundred dollar bill until she came into contact with Bane.
She stood counting the money. Hundreds and hundreds of dollars. She glanced up at Bane waiting for his permission. He nodded for her to take all of it and she did. She planned on shopping for new clothes and to use it the next chance she would get to run from him. That was always in the back of her mind—how she would make her escape.
Adrienne disappeared into the bathroom where she saw an enormous tub. Dropping her clothes, she stepped into the tub to soak. She had to soak off the days of woods in her skin and the smell of raw deer meat. And she hadn’t washed her hair in days.
She looked cautiously at the phone near the toilet. She lay there thinking whether Bane would know if she used it, and fell aslee
p.
When she woke, she was lying in the bed naked. She sat up. Her heart beating fast, and she was famished. She smelled the food, but she was too tired, and too weak to walk to get it. Just about the time she had made up her mind to get up, Bane came rolling the table into the bedroom.
Pulling the sheet over her she said, “Look in that closet and get me a robe.”
“Why do you need a robe?”
“Because I’m not in the habit of eating my hot food naked, and in front of you.”
“Who do you think carried you from the tub? You could have drowned.”
“Now we wouldn’t want that to happen especially since you haven’t claimed me yet.” Adrienne said in a snarky unpleasant voice as she placed a fork full of Caesar salad into her mouth while her eyes kept watch on Bane’s face. She watched at him like a dog afraid someone would snatch his food.
“I should have let you drown. You have been nothing but trouble for me. You aren’t good for anything the way you are,” Bane snarled and growled pacing to the window and looking out as if he could see far into the mountains filled with snow.
“That’s not what the Samsa men said when I was pregnant. We humans know how to satisfy each other in many different ways,” Adrienne said with a mouth filled with a juicy rare steak. This caught Bane’s attention much to her dismay. As usual she had talked too much if only to brag.
“Tell me more,” Bane said sitting on the sofa, facing her bed, with his fist tucked under his chin, looking like a handsome suitor waiting for an answer from his fiancée about when she will fuck him or suck his dick.
“Don’t believe anything I’ve said. I’m just angry at you.” He rose from his seat and walked to the bed. Adrienne was still waiting for her robe. He pushed the table to the side and took the fork from her hand. She sat there and he sat next to her.
“What will you do if I tell you that I need to mate with you tonight?”
“The question is what will you do if I tell you that I don’t want you.” He leaned closer to her. His lips touching hers. Bane kissed her lightly on the lips. Then pulled her softly into his arms. She felt his need and warmth. At that moment he wasn’t the werewolf she had first seen. He was like a man who wanted a woman and was willing to wait until she said that she was ready for him to make love to her.
“I won’t do anything until you tell me. I want you to need me. I want you to need me so much that you forget Wilder,” he said as his eyes glared at her with a love sick expression. His heart pounding. A throbbing need sparked by the kiss he placed on her lips.
Adrienne glanced at him as he kissed her softly once more. This time he forced his tongue in her mouth. But Adrienne sat clutching the side of the bed as if she was afraid to return his kiss. His kiss is greedy and needy. She didn’t respond to his passionate affections. She felt something deep inside for him, but maybe it was the need of her body which responded, but her love for the Samsa brothers wouldn’t let her return the affection for Bane. Their hold was too strong over her. It would take a lot to replace them. She had too much to lose.
When Bane didn’t receive the affection he dearly wanted, he pushed her away. “You are cold. Much like the werefemales, but they know their duty, and they will do it whether they have feelings for the male or not,” he said pulling away from her. “Do I have to treat you like one of them for you to respond to me?” Bane jumps up and stands over Adrienne with her looking up at him.
“Do you expect me to want you, and make love to you after you have kidnapped me, and threatened my children?” They stare at each other.
“I know where I can find a female that wants to fuck me.”
“That little blond at the hotel counter. It figures.”
“Why does it concern you who I fuck? You don’t want me. You have made that clear to me. You better hope I fuck her tonight because if I don’t, then it will be you, whether you want me or not,” he said with a rough and harden ruthless voice.
“I don’t want you because you stole me from my men. And I’m pregnant. How many times do I have to say this for you to understand? You can’t treat me like this and expect me to want to lie down with you.”
“So are you telling me that if I hadn’t taken you and you were not pregnant than you would want to mate with me.”
“I’m not saying that. I’m just saying that I find you attractive sometimes... When you treat me gentle.”
“Then the blond downstairs will find me attractive, too.”
“Where are you going?”
“I’m going to fuck me a woman.”
“Are you planning on leaving me alone?” Bane thought about her question.
“What difference does it make?” He said.
“Aren’t you concerned about me calling someone?”
“Go ahead and call Wilder. If he was coming, he would have been here by now. Besides he can’t track us anymore. By the time he catches up with us, we’ll be gone, and I’ll take you into the Alaskan wilderness, and then you will have no choice but to have me. That, or the other wild werewolves. You have time to make your selection. For now, I’m going to get me a female that wants me, and I don’t care what you do.” Bane’s tone sparks Adrienne’s anger and she wants to hit him with something. She can’t believe they’re fighting like a married couple.
Bane turned and walked out of the room and she heard the door to the suite close. Adrienne hurried to pick up the phone to call out. She looked down at the phone and Bane had taken all of the cords. She couldn’t call out if she wanted, and that’s one reason he talked to her in an indifferent manner.
Rushing to dress she had to get to the lobby. She pulled up the soiled leather clothes and put on her Ugg boots. Now was the time to make her escape. It was now or never. She was nervous as she grabbed some food and a coat. As she hurried to the living area she spotted the keys to the truck. Her hands shook as she took them. Her body trembled as she walked out of the suite not knowing whether Bane would find her as she attempted to make a getaway.
Adrienne’s hands shook. Her legs quaked. She felt that he would smell her and come after her. She pressed the button for the lobby and the elevator headed down. Then the elevator stopped on the third floor and her knees weakened. When the door opened, no one was there. The door closed again and the elevator started on its descend to the lobby. The door opened in the lobby and she held her heart. Her breathing is hard. She’s taking in and letting out air from her lungs. She holds her stomach.
The blond isn’t at the front desk. She had been replaced by a young man. As Adrienne scurried past him, he raised his head, and then made a call. She imagined all sorts of things. Maybe he was calling Bane, and just when she thought she was free of him, he would catch her, and bring her back into the room and punish her for running away from him.
Her mind entertained all kind of scenarios as she rushed through the opening doors. The truck is parked to the side of the hotel. It’s close but it feels so far away. Her heart is beating. When is she going to get to the truck? She’s thinking as she slips and slides on the melting ice.
So far so good, her mind thought. She never imagined making it this far, but she hadn’t reached the truck yet. She wasn’t out of the woods. That thought made her grin. Marching around where she thought she had seen the truck, when she reached it, it was the wrong truck. She searched around some more in a panic and then she spotted parked under a light.
Her hands trembled when she placed the key in the door. Her hands trembled when she opened the door and just when she was climbing into the front seat she heard heavy feet, and saw a shadow behind her. Her heart is thundering.
“Where are you going?” She didn’t want to turn but knew that voice. It was the voice she longed for, and it was the voice she loved. It was Wilder’s voice.
“Oh my God, Wilder. You found me.” Adrienne turned glancing into his face with tears welling in her eyes. She grabbed him around his neck. “It’s you.” She held his face but he appeared cold to her. She had
expected a warmer welcome. He never held her. His arms and hands remained at his side.
“Why would you doubt that I would find you?” He said with an emotionless voice. There wasn’t any warmth coming from him. He turned looking around raising his nose to the wind. “I smell that werewolf on you. Where is he?” He said with a raw harsh voice holding her by the shoulders.
“I don’t know where he is. He left me in that room, and I took the first chance I could to escape.” Wilder’s blue eyes glared at her with icy disbelief.
“Don’t you believe me?” Wilder didn’t answer. Adrienne stood shivering from the cold. Normally Wilder would take her into his arms but he didn’t. Not this time.
“Let’s go. Get in the truck,” he ordered her. “I have a score to keep with Bane, but I can’t do it now. If I kill him, the police will be involved. I have to get you home quickly.”
“You don’t have to kill him. I’m ok. He didn’t do anything to me.”
Wilder didn’t hear her. His mind was focused on Bane and what to do with Adrienne.
Adrienne didn’t ask any questions. She walked around and opened the door and slid inside. She wanted to be away from Bane and the horrible memories and time she had just endured. She didn’t want to see Wilder and Bane fight over her, and see one of them die as a result. She couldn’t stand anymore of this. If ever there was a time to wish she had never met Wilder now was the time.
“Why would you want to kill him? You have me back.” Wilder gave her a willful glance climbing into the truck. She had never seen him stare at her the way he’s doing now. His steel blue eyes are hard and cold. She feels a shiver throughout her body, whereas before she felt nothing but love and warmth.
“Do you think it was because of you that I came after him?”
“I’d like to think I was the reason,” she said hurt. Her voice in a whisper.
“It’s much bigger than you. It’s because he has ruined you, and you are no longer the Samsas’ mate.”
Adrienne choked back tears that began to pool in her brown eyes. “Didn’t you hear what I said before? He did nothing to me. Bane said that you would say something like that. That’s why he didn’t touch me.” Wilder flinched when Adrienne called Bane’s name.
