“Maybe I could work part-time,” she whispered after a minute, nodding slowly.
“This isn’t any kind of ultimatum—you have to want this, but I’m asking you to think about it. I love you, and not only do I hate seeing you run around all the time, when we’re not together my life is empty. It’s going to be twice as bad when the baby comes. Will you at least think about it?”
“I’ll do more than think about it. There’s nothing more important to me than you and our family, so I’ll talk to Bud after the holidays. Maybe I could even stay on the show, but with a less prominent role, coming back for special episodes or something.”
“God, I love you.” He kissed her gently, sweetly, one hand covering the small mound where their son nestled within her. “You’ve changed my life, and there’s nothing better than hearing you say you love me.”
“I love you. Forever.”
“Will you marry me again?”
“Every day, for the rest of my life.”
“Even if I grow my beard out again?”
She giggled. “Especially then—you had that big, bushy thing when I fell in love with you.”
“I thought you liked the goatee better?”
“I do, but what’s on the outside doesn’t matter—what matters is the man on the inside. That’s all I care about. So grow it back out if you love it so much.”
“I don’t love the beard… I love you.”
She smiled as the baby kicked, and reached out to move Brock’s hand so he could feel it. “I think he heard you.”
