My Sister My Momma My Wife Page 20

by Lipsey, Shelia E.

I place the blame on the devil. The devil is like a roaring lion wandering around seeking whom he may devour. How does he do this unless he does it through deceitful practices. He is the father of lies. There is no good thing about him. He parades around in shoes of deception and clothes of betrayal.

Each of the characters in the My Son’s Series has been affected in some way by deceit. They have been tricked, lied to, lied on, and lied about. They have been the enemy, the deceiver, the hater and the trickster. But they have also expressed love, forgiveness, faith and trust. They are believers like many of us, but reading about them, you might think differently. Again, like us because sometimes people can’t tell by looking at us, listening to us, and being around us that we profess to be children of God.

We all are imperfect creatures. That is why God chose to die for us, even while we were yet sinners. We needed and continue to need an advocate, an intercessor, someone who will plead our case even when we do awful things. That advocate is Jesus Christ. Wow, am I so glad I have him on my side. If I did not I would suffer hell and damnation because of my terrible sin nature.

We all need rescuing from the tangled web that others weave for us and from the web that we sometimes weave for others and then the web we even weave for ourselves. We need to ask to be delivered continually from the web of deceit that entraps us.

Don’t be so quick to look and judge others for the mistakes they make in life, or the bad choices they make. Instead, try to remember that you too have flaws and imperfections. You too have done something dreadful and awful, thought something that you shouldn’t have, said something that you shouldn’t have, acted in a way that you shouldn’t have. You too have hurt someone, probably messed over someone, whether it was intentional or not. The fact remains that we all have mess in our lives, and it is only by God’s grace and his mercy that is new every morning, that we can call ourselves believers and Christians.

So, you who call yourselves children of the Most High God, learn how to turn the other cheek. Learn how to forgive even when you don’t want to forgive. What you see on the outside is not always what the truth is. We never know what is going on in a person’s life. What we should do is to love others unconditionally. Treat others the way we truly want to be treated.

Audrey Graham carried secrets to the grave that spilled over out of the grave. Her deceitful ways far outlived her. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to die being an Audrey. I don’t want the dirt of my past to ruin the future of those who live on.

So, take the time now to reevaluate your life. If there is anything you have not repented for, or asked forgiveness for, I urge you to do so now. If there is someone you have wronged along life’s journey, whether you are young or old, black or white, male or female, seek that person’s forgiveness because true love really does mean saying you’re sorry.

Matthew 7:1-5 "Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 "For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. 3 "And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? 4 "Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me remove the speck from your eye'; and look, a plank is in your own eye? 5 "Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck out of your brother's eye

A Personal Invitation from the Author

If you have not made a decision to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, God himself extends this invitation to you.

If you have not trusted Him and believed Him to be the giver of eternal life, you can do so right now. We do not know the second, the minute, the hour, the moment, or day that God will come to claim us. Will you be ready?

  The Word of God says:

“If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are SAVED” (Romans 10:9-10 NIV, emphasis added).
