“Another one?”
“I know you don’t like New York.”
“You’re stating a fact you already know.”
“What would be your most favorite place to live?”
“That’s unfair. You know what it is and you—“
“Hush. Say it.”
“Home.”
“Well, home is where the heart is and where we are together, so that’s not an accurate description, but I know what you mean. I’ve bought property in your hometown, or near it to be precise. Our house will be completed in February and your father is going to teach me how to become a farmer.”
“Seriously? You’re joking now, right?”
“Would I joke about something so serious?”
She jumped up and sat on her knees staring down at him. “Really? You’re dead serious?”
“Uh, uh. You can start choosing colors and furniture soon.”
“Wow, you’re the best. I didn’t know you had that much money.”
“You’ve never asked and I was lucky. I had a single aunt who left me her fortune because I was her favorite nephew, but I couldn’t access it until a year ago. It’s been in trust all this time. Probably a good thing because of the wild life I’ve led. I’ve already transferred money to my siblings and my parents, and there’s a huge chunk waiting for us to spend. And now, Mrs. Engler, I want to explore every inch of you!”
