The Diary of a Natural Girl in a Supernatural World Page 13

by N. R. Willis

“But I am immortal now sooo…” I narrowed my eyes at her.

“You’ve made your choice. Should you have followed Lilly your life would be drastically different. The world would be different.” I gulped at the implication.

So I had changed the world for the better. Maybe it was time I forgot the fact that I wasn’t able to stop this whole enslavement of humanity (well as I knew it… I guess) and embrace the fact that Kara might have been right. That this was where I was supposed to be and that I did something far greater than I understood.

Or maybe I’ll think about it later.

This is too deep for me right now.

  Epilogue

  2075

  1:24pm

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? I mean it’s been like what? More than 50 years or something. Yeah, way too long and I am not kidding when I say I am literally just now getting my journal back. I guess they think they can pull this sort of crap when you’re immortal because you have all the time in the world but they’re wrong.

Anyways, I am writing to sort of wrap this whole thing up. It has been a great deal of years and a lot has happened… I guess that’s a given.

I can’t write for very long, they’re sending me on a mission to watch this new metahuman. She’s probably going to be another kidemona. And you know who is going to have to train her? Certainly not me.

Ok, so maybe it was going to be me. But the interesting thing about it is that I would train her without her knowledge, maybe. I’m not sure if even I am that good yet.

That’s how Kara started me, I guess. She trained my metahuman abilities without my knowledge… with the help of my mother who trained me directly.

Anyways, I met Asher Flynn almost a year ago. I somehow managed to worm my way into her life without her really noticing.

Maybe that had something to do with the… similarities. Kara warned me that this would happen. That this case was special and that Asher was just like me. So I had my in and I took it.

Asher and I always did random stuff together. I think it was because she wanted to find adventure. She also wanted to find new material for her book… She was after all Anonymous Authoress but she has no idea that I know that.

I am reminded of one day in particular, the idea that kind of sparked the events to come. I guess you could say that it’s her test or rather her training to become a better illusionist.

So the idea was simple and it started with a plan… well a fake one.

“I have a plan.” I told her. She did not look too amused at my words but she would once the plan took off.

“And what is this plan?” She asked me.

“You’re going to love it!” I smirked to myself, on the inside.

Three hours later we were strolling through the park looking for victims. What she didn’t know was that I was totally winging it. I was totally messing with her when I said I had a plan but of course she didn’t know that.

“How about that guy over there?” She pointed to some random dude who, if I was honest looked like a serial killer.

“What? No. that guy looks like he’s going to kill someone.” There was no way I was going to follow that guy. I was too smart for that.

“That’s what will make it fun.” She whined.

“What? Witnessing a murder? Nah, I’m cool without that.” I shrugged.

“How about him?” She asked pointing to another who was murder man’s complete opposite.

“Uh.. no. We’re going to follow him.” I gestured to a dragon. I could tell by the way that A. he was build and B. the tattoo up his arm. It symbolized his abilities or something like that. He would be interesting enough.

“A dragon, really Ida?” She asked unamused.

Oh, did I mention that I was pretending to be someone else? Yeah, I found that it was easier to get someone to reveal their abilities or to get them to better understand their powers by becoming their friend… essentially by tricking them.

No I am not above it.

“Yes, a dragon. Now let’s go!” I gestured for her to follow me.

We trailed behind the dragon for quite some time. He was just running through the park, like it was completely normal. Which I guess it was considering dragons have a slight obsession with their body image.

“Ugh… we have to run if we want to follow him.” Asher complained.

  “Yeah, and?” I asked her.

“Annnnnnddddd my body says that he runs too fast.” She whined.

“Well, tell your body to shut up.” I told her.

“It won’t Ida, it won’t.” She whispered vehemently.

I shushed her when the dragon glanced over his shoulder almost catching us in the act.

“How about we try to be quiet and follow him.” I suggested.

“Fine.” She huffed, “But he’s just running to the gym.”

With that the talking ceased. We followed random dragon dude to, you guessed it, the gym. Asher was totally right but I wouldn’t let her have the moment.

  “I told you.” She whispered.

“Shut up!” I whispered back. “Now let’s go in.”

So we followed him in. The only problem was that we didn’t have anything with us to change into so we stuck out slightly. I was about to address the matter when dragon dude comes up to us practically breathing fire.

See what I did there? I’m funny.

  Anyways…

“What are you two doing following me?” He narrowed his eyes at us.

“Oh hey buddy.” I put my hand on his arm but he didn’t like that too much because he pulled away. “We were just admiring you from afar.” I batted my eyelashes at him but he wasn’t buying it.

“Do you work for Rafe?” He asked.

I froze for a moment, technically I worked with him. He was one of the people who helped me train up my strength. He was pretty much the only person left after the whole… incident went down.

“Rafe?” Asher asked, “No silly, we’re here for you.” She followed suit and snuggled up to him.

He looked a little alarmed at the two of us and pulled away. I guess the guy has proximity issues, which is a little sad because he actually was very attractive.

“What are you, like 12? I don’t need no little girl hitting on me. Now run along.” I was slightly offended at his jab. I was much older than 12, in fact I might have been older than him. So I lost my temper on him a little bit.

I grabbed him by the shirt and hauled him away from Asher who gave me a questioning look I ignored.

“Look mister. I know you think you’re some hot shot dragon but I can be worse than anything you could ever imagine. Now you will get back there and apologize to my friend and run along.” I whispered to him.

“I’m not afraid of you.” He said proudly.

“Oh you’re not?” I squeezed his hand a little making a connection in his head, showing him a little snippet of who I was.

“Have you changed your mind yet?” I asked him cockily.

“Yes…” He gulped yes I have. And you know what he did? He walked over to Asher and apologized. And then he left. Because he is a pansy and I rock.

As we were leaving the gym Asher looked at me strangely, “what did you say to him?”

“Oh, how much I admired his muscles, how attractive I thought he was and that I wanted to take him then and there.” I teased. But for some dumb reason she bought it.

I don’t think she realizes that I’m doing this on purpose… That I’m actually being sarcastic… This chick is observant.

“Ok, but next time. I choose who we follow. And it won’t be a dragon.” She looked pointedly at me.

  “What, they’re hot.” I shrugged.

“They’re also boring meatheads.” I have no idea what she has against dragons.

“Psh.” I scoffed but did not say anything else.

My initial assessment of Asher Flynn; she was impulsive and liked to do things her way. She was not observant and if I was right that w
ould mean a whole lot of trouble. But I guess that’s what I live for; trouble… so that I can fix it.

  Until next time,

This is Dia signing off. k12
