He pulled me up and looked into my eyes. “You’re very welcome, Sunshine.”
“I have a present for you too,” I said, swallowing hard.
He smirked. “You bought me a present on your birthday? You are a good wife.”
I bit my lower lip. “I didn’t exactly buy it.”
“Oh, you made me something? I love that.”
“No, Ethan, we made it together.”
He tilted his head in curiosity. “I’m confused now.”
I took his hand and placed it on my tummy. His eyes widened, and I could feel his muscles tense.
“You can’t see it for a while, but I know you’ll really love it. You’re going to be such a great dad.”
He stared at me and then at his hand. He rubbed my belly in slow circles, and because it was Ethan, they were perfectly round circles.
We had been trying for so long that we were ready to make an appointment with a specialist. Both of us thought there had to be something wrong. We had experienced several false alarms, so I didn’t even want to tell him until I knew for sure.
“Ethan, say something.”
He embraced me tightly, holding me in his arms. His voice was quiet when he spoke, “Let me just hold you…both of you.”
He held me. His shoulders trembled, and I knew he was crying. I was too. His muscles started to loosen up eventually. His voice came out choked, full of emotion. “Do you remember how I said the comic book was the best gift I ever got?”
“Yes,” I said.
“This is now the best present in the world. Thank you, Meena. Thank you for helping me solve for C and finding the sum of us. Thank you for being my wife, my friend, my life, my present, my future, and my forever. I love you…something fierce.”

About the Author
I am a hopeless romantic in a hopelessly pragmatic world. I have a full-time life and two busy teenagers, but in the dark of night, I sit by the warm glow of a computer monitor and attempt to conjure up passionate, heartwarming stories with plenty of humor.
I started imagining stories in my head at a very young age. In fact, I got so good at it that friends asked me to create plots featuring them as the heroine and the object of their affection as the hero. You’ve heard of fan fiction…this was friend fiction.
