  “Not near enough. I want forever, and I won’t settle for one day less.”

  * * *

  Kane stood between his brother and the preacher, waiting. To Zane’s left stood Aron, Jacob and Joseph McCoy, his faithful friends. Isaac and Noah McCoy weren’t left out. They served as ushers to sit the townspeople of Kerrville who’d come to see their Sheriff tie the knot in Holy Matrimony. Logan would have been one of those men, if things had been different. Now, however, if Kane had his way, it will be a long time before Logan saw another day of freedom, much less any of Kane’s loved ones.

  Lined up in a row like candidates in a beauty pageant were Libby, Jessie, Cady and Avery, all of the McCoy girls. These people were his family, friends forged by standing alongside one another through thick and thin, good days and bad, joy and sorrow. Months had passed since the day he’d rescued Lilibet from the hands of Kyle Hanks, who was now in prison, along with the whole crime ring. And in that time he had worked tirelessly to show her they could have it all—love, family and forever.

  The swell of the organ announced that the moment he’d waited for so long was at hand. His father stood at the front pew, a testimony that blood was thicker than water. He and Zane were once again in the Saucier family fold and while they would never see eye to eye with everything his family stood for, he was grateful that his parents were once more a part of his life. And the biggest reason for that reconciliation toddled down the aisle. Dwayne was their ring bearer. Lilibet wouldn’t sleep a wink the first night until he’d taken her to the hospital to be with the little boy Lisa had once tried to pass off as his son. Little had she known that Dwayne would have both him and Lilibet wrapped around his chubby baby fingers in no time flat. The adoption papers were just a formality. His cousin, the real father, had relinquished all rights. He wasn’t ready to settle down and felt no bond with the boy, nor with the woman who bore him. That was okay, but Kane had made it clear he would always be welcome to visit and be as much a part of Dwayne’s life as they both wanted. All Kane and Lilibet wished, was for Dwayne to know he was loved. And between the Sauciers and the McCoys, he didn’t think there would be any shortage of affection in the young man’s life. Plus there was a little brother or sister on the way. The faint small baby bump wouldn’t be noticeable today, but Kane knew it was there and he thanked God every day for the chance to bring a child into the world, born of the love he and Lilibet shared. As Dwayne made his way to Kane, he knelt to meet him and guided him to stand next to his Uncle Zane who didn’t need perfect vision to see that all of his brother’s dreams were coming true.

  The bridal chorus chords were sounded. The wedding guests stood as one and every eye turned to look at the vision in white that was coming slowly down the aisle. The little chapel was decked out in white flowers—lilies, hydrangeas, peonies and lilacs. But none were more beautiful than the woman whose eyes sought and locked with his. Brien walked beside his sister to give her away, but everyone knew Lilibet already belonged to him. This ceremony was just a celebration of that precious truth. Her steps were sure and certain. He’d seen to that, buying her white wedding slippers, made just to fit his beloved’s small feet. When she drew near enough, Kane took her hand and clasped it in his, feeling the slight tremble. “Dearly beloved, we are gathered...”

  Lilibet held on to Kane’s arm. He was her rock, her shelter, her haven of rest. He was also the most exciting, sexy man in the world. And he was hers! Dwayne pulled on her skirt and she stopped to give him a kiss. She was a mama! And a mama-to-be. Could life get any better? “Do you Kane Saucier take this woman to be your wife?”

  “I do.” His strong, warm voice sent chills down her body. Yes, life would be better the moment they were pronounced man and wife. She couldn’t believe how blessed she was. Lilibet was about to marry her brown-eyed handsome man.

  “Do you Elizabeth Ladner take this man to be your husband?” He squeezed her hand and she smiled at him.

  “Whatcha say, Baby? Will you take me?” There was so much heat in his eyes that she felt her nipples go hard.

  And really there was only one thing to say. It was totally unlike her, but this was a brand new day, the day she would become Mrs. Kane Saucier. She didn’t hesitate and she didn’t stutter. “Hell yeah, I do.”

  Kane laughed out loud. “That’s my, Little-bit.”

  “I now pronounce you man and wife. Ladies and gentleman, I have the pleasure of introducing you to Mr. and Mrs. Kane Saucier. You may kiss the bride.”

  Now, it was his turn. As he pulled her close, he couldn’t help but adore those pink plump lips, those beautiful sensual eyes and the sweetest little body in Texas. “Hell, yeah,” he growled as their lips met. Lord, he couldn’t wait to take her to bed.

  And as they kissed, the guests applauded and one lone voice called from the back of the church. “Atta boy, Sheriff!”
