“To putting ourselves first,” Candy said.
“And to appreciating the good in our lives and enjoying every minute of it,” Mona said.
“Yes,” Dee commented. Their glasses clinked together and they turned up their drinks.
“Well damn Sis,” Candy said. “You don’t have to drink it all at once.” They laughed.
“This shit is good. I was just telling your cousin that I hadn’t had a drink since before I got pregnant with Caylin.”
“Where is she, by the way?” Candy asked.
“She is with Mama,” Mona said.
“Oh yeah and so is MJ.” Dee added.
“Mrs. Cat got both of the grand’s today?” Candy asked.
“Un-huh… She can handle it because Joe is with her.” Mona explained.
“Oh okay. Well that really gives us some time to catch up.” Candy responded.
“She sat down at the table. Mona slid Dee her glass.
“Fix me another one bartender.” Mona grinned.
“With pleasure,” Dee said.
“This drink is good.” Candy commented.
“Do you remember when I used to be a bartender on the weekends back in high school, Cuz?”
“Yup, I could remember that, because Auntie used to be a cook there and that was her way of watching you.” They laughed.
“That was her way of keeping me out of the streets, but I met more people, and older people at that, than I ever would have met on the streets.” Dee commented.
“Hell, Auntie made it easy for you, huh?” Candy asked.
“Yeah she did that. I can’t lie, I enjoyed every minute of it though. Every night I learned something new about something or somebody. The craziest, most fun I ever had was working at that bar.” She smiled as she reminisced.
“Look like we bought back some memories.” Candy grinned.
“Yeah, y’all did,” Dee said. “I’ll have to take y’all down memory lane one day I’m sure over drinks.”
“Of course,” Mona stated.
“Can’t wait for that,” Candy said. “You know I love juicy shit.”
“Don’t we all,” Mona agreed.
“Speaking of juicy shit,” Candy said. “How about this dude in my class named Payton is good friends with Karen,” she added.
“Talkin’ ‘bout Bruce’s ex?” Mona asked.
“Yep, that would be the one.” Candy replied.
“Okay I’m lost,” Dee interrupted.
“It’s a long story Dee, but Bruce is the guy who shot Rico. Remember when I was telling you about the dude who found out about Monty sleeping with his ole lady and wanted to act a fool about it?”
“Oh yeah, I remember the fat dude. He shot Rico thinking that he’d shot Monty.” Dee said.
“Yeah and he almost killed my baby too over that stupid bitch.” Mona cut in.
“Damn, I can’t believe that nigga was playing for keeps like that. Shit’s crazy.” Dee said shaking her head.
“It was crazy,” Mona said. “Rico didn’t deserve that.”
“I know he didn’t and I hate that Monty got him caught up in that shit. I just never understood why he wanted to fuck with a sleaze like that anyway.” Candy uttered.
“Shit… all my brother was looking at was that fat ass.” Mona said.
“Please don’t remind me.” Candy said with disgust. “But I thank God that Rico pulled through and that nobody else got hurt. I probably would have really been crazy if he had shot Monty. Remember I went into labor right after all of that shit happened.” Candy said.
“Yeah I remember.” She said. “I don’t mean to change the subject but this drink is bamming.”
“Slow your ass down before you be staying here over night or I’ll be calling your fiancé to come get you.” Candy said. “Speaking of fiancé… how’s your love life?”
“The love life is good. I can’t complain.” She stirred her drink with her straw. “I spoke with Ross earlier today.”
“You did what?” Candy asked.
“You heard me trick.” She grinned. “I spoke with Ross today, matter of fact, right before I started getting ready to come over here.”
“Who is Ross?” Dee asked.
“Mona’s secret lover,” Candy answered.
“He’s not my secret lover. He’s someone I dated back in high school.”
“Yeah right,” Candy cut in.
“Yes, we had relations plenty of times.” They laughed. “And yes I still adore him to this day, but he’s not my secret lover. He’s just a good friend.”
“Wow, look how she put it.” Dee commented. “Being that you still adore him, would you sleep with him again if given the opportunity?”
“Good question,” Candy stated.
“Uh… I doubt it.” She said.
“Doubting it and saying No, straight up are two totally different things.” Candy commented.
“I agree,” Dee added.
“Ladies, ladies, ladies,” Mona teased. “If I did I would never kiss and tell.” She grinned.
“Bitch Boo!” Candy exclaimed. “I would know the minute its over.” They laughed.
“You’re probably right about that.” She said giving Candy high five. “So, since you all up in my shit, what’s up with you and my brother?”
“Nothing is up. We see each other long enough when he’s dropping off MJ or I’m picking him up. He does call every now and then. The good thing is that we’re able to have conversations without me snapping on him. Plus, I can’t help but laugh at him sometimes because he’s such a clown.”
“Yes he is that,” Mona agreed.
“One thing I know is that your brother isn’t going to change anytime soon. I’ve come to realize that I have to accept the things that I can’t change, but that doesn’t mean that I have to deal with it.”
“I feel you on that Cuz.” Dee said.
“Even when Monty is good he’s bad.” Candy laughed.
“Same way I kinda feel about Rico,” Mona whispered as she turned up the rest of her drink.

Monty stood in the foyer of The Winter’s Realty. He was greeted by a fair skinned woman with long blonde hair. She was rather nice looking but much too skinny for his taste.
“Hello,” she said. “Is there anything I can help you with?”
“Uh, yes,” he said. “I’m here to see Susan.”
“Okay, no problem, and your name is?”
“Monty Banks,” he said. The woman picked up the phone to inform Susan, but she came walking out of the office door right across from them. She was on her cell phone clearly talking business. She walked over to the woman who had stepped behind the receptionist desk and placed her hand over the receiver of her phone.
“Pencil him in for me. I’ll take it from here.”
“Okay Susan,” the woman said.
Susan looked over at Monty with her hand still placed over the receiver. She smiled at him. “Come with me.” She softly said. Monty followed her into a different office down the hall.
Nice, he thought as he looked around.
“Okay Mike I understand,” she said still talking on the phone. Monty observed her stance. She was very graceful. The fitted black skirt was very sexy on her and made her hips poke out like nobody’s business. He silently admired the view and the confidence she displayed while talking business. He smiled as she looked over at him and winked. He didn’t know if the wink was because she was sealing a deal or if she was really feeling him. Either way he took it as a good sign. She hung up the phone after talking a few minutes longer and looked over at him.
“I’m sorry about that. Some days it seems as if I’m on business calls all day.” She said reaching in a drawer behind her desk and pulling out her dark brown Etienne Aigner leather bag which matched perfectly with her knee length Etienne Aigner black leather boots. “You know how it is. I’m trying to crunch the numbers on a deal.”
“It’s alright, trust me I understand.” h
e stated.
“Come on,” she said. “Since you’re free right now let’s go grab a bite to eat. I have a little business proposition for you.” She smiled. Monty knew he didn’t have anything going on for at least the next couple of hours.
“Sure, that actually sounds good.” He said with a smile on his face while exiting the office with Susan. He wasn’t sure what the rest of the evening held but he was going to go with the flow and make the very best of it.

“A’ight, I’ve walked you safely to your room. Now I’m outta here.” Brendon said as he quickly tried to turn and leave.
“You betta bring my damn luggage in this room!” Kina demanded. “You know I ain’t finish talking to you anyway.” Brendon sucked in his teeth.
“I have things to do.” He uttered.
“Things like what?” Kina asked sliding the card in the key slot. She pushed the door open and flipped on the light quickly looking around. “Ooooh… This is a very nice room.”
“I figured I’d book a suite for my awesomely sweet friend,” he said.
“So lame,” she commented with a grin. Brendon walked into the room sitting the luggage down on the floor.
“What in the hell did you pack? This shit is heavy.”
“You big Wuss,” she teased. “My bags aren’t that heavy.” Brendon walked over to the recliner chair sitting over by the window.
“This is nice,” Brendon said resting his head back on the soft chair. “Hell, I got you living like a queen over here. Maybe I should just tap that ass since it feels like you’re actually my girl.” He joked.
“I am your girl dummy.” She retorted. “Speaking of girl… What’s up with this chick you’re hiding?”
“Not now nosey ass.” He said.
“You know I’m not gonna stop asking you.”
“I know and I don’t really care. There’s nothing to tell.” He said.
“And when there is something to tell,” she said looking at him sideways.
“Then and only then will I still tell you nothing.” Brendon teased making Kina laugh.
“Smart ass,” she said unpacking her luggage. “Do you like these?” She asked holding up a pair of Coogi red thongs covered with white hearts.
“They a’ight,” he grinned.
“They look better on my ass.” She said dotting her index finger with spit and tapping lightly on her ass. “This shit is hot baby.” She winked.
“If you say so,” Brendon commented. “That red ass Mohawk on your head is what looks hot.” They laughed.
“Don’t hate!” She stated. Brendon knew that she had mass sex appeal but he didn’t look at her twice. She was like a sister. He didn’t see anything more, but flirting with one another was definitely something that their relationship included.
Kina flipped her long bangs back out of her face. “Hmm,” she pondered. “Can I at least have her name?” Brendon looked over at her.
“You just won’t let it go, will you?”
“Nope,” she stated.
“Candy,” he paused. “Her name is Candy,” he finally said. The name rolling off of his tongue made him smile and Kina knew that it definitely had to be something about her to have Brendon so intrigued.
Chapter 14
Candy and Dee were sitting on the sofa laughing at Mona who was dancing to 2 Live Crew, Me So Horny. She was shaking her ass as if she was the main chick in one of Luke’s videos.
“Get it girl!” Candy yelled.
“Shake what yo mama gave ya!” Dee shouted as she joined in enjoying the fun. The girls felt good from the drinks. Between the three of them they had emptied a bottle of Patron; easy.
“Damn, it feels good to be getting over these six weeks, because damn Me So Horny!” Mona screamed, flopping down in the recliner chair behind her.
“I know he must be just as happy as you are.” Dee chimed in.
“You should’ve been gettin’ pleased. Oral always works for me. The dick is just a plus.” Candy stated.
“I’m selfish. I need this cat sucked and fucked.” Mona said.
“Hush Mona! You’re too crazy.” Candy interjected.
“Okay,” Dee cut in. They snickered amongst each other. “Shhh… listen… Tonight, why don’t you give him a little head and then let him give you some. That should take the edge off, plus I’m sure he’s ready for some action too by now.”
“You’re right Dee. Candy, do you think that’s a good idea?” Mona asked.
“Duh… Yes! Make sure you have on something sexy. Let him know what the deal is.”
“You don’t think he’ll want to fuck afterwards?” Mona asked.
“Yeah, I’m sure he will, but it ain’t like you gotta wait no more.” Candy said. “Shit, just give him the pussy.”
“Maybe I should just wait until the doctor put me on my birth control.” Mona reluctantly said.
“Or maybe you should do what you have to just to make sure that your man doesn’t have any wants to get it from somewhere else.” Candy uttered. Mona thought about that for a long minute.
“Well, enough said.” Mona responded. “We’ll be fucking tonight.”
“That’s my girl,” Candy commented with a smile.

“Wow! What was that all about?”
“I don’t know,” Rico said. “Seriously… I don’t know.” He could barely look in Karen’s face. Seeing her was supposed to give him clarity, but all it did was create another dramatic subfolder in his life under Betrayal.
“What’s wrong? You didn’t enjoy my company?”
“Nothing like that, Karen,” he responded. “I just have a lot going on right now. I mean you definitely did more than satisfy me.”
“Well that’s all that counts.” Karen said. Rico stood up and began getting dressed. “You seemed spaced out. Is this not what you came over here for?”
“I actually came over because… Hell I don’t know why I came over.”
“Your ass is feeling hella guilty about something.” Karen stated. “You thought that coming over here would make you a feel a little better about your situation, but it didn’t help did it?”
“No it didn’t.” Rico stated.
“Let’s face it. We do things that aren’t good for us and fuck people who aren’t meant for us. It’s no way around it especially when two people are attracted to each other. I don’t know why most things that feel so good are so bad.”
She walked over and stood in front of him. She admired his muscle toned chest as he pulled his navy blue polo Rocawear shirt over his head.
“Karen you do look good.” He said staring at her scrumptiously thick body. “Lord knows I can’t lie about that, and yeah, I wanted this since I saw you at the bar, but I was wrong for coming here.” He looked down at his watch.
“Look… I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t glad to see you or glad that the sexcapade that we just had wasn’t amazing. But please, don’t get it twisted. I know my roll and I know what you have going on. I would never be the type of chick that would mess that up for you.”
“You say that now, but the last time we were together a nigga shot me. I think that alone should tell me that I shouldn’t be here.”
“We both know why that happened.” Karen stated. “So don’t blame me for that.”
“I’m not, believe me I’m not.” He looked down at his watch again. “I need to go.” The name WIFEY showed up on his caller ID as his phone rang.
“Is that her?” Karen asked.
“It is,” he said. “I’ll holla at ya later. I need to take this.”
“Okay, but don’t hesitate to call me if you need me.” Karen said. Rico exited Karen’s house and quickly answered the phone before it went to voicemail.
“Hey babe,” he said.
“Hey you,” Mona spoke. “I’ve missed you today.”
“Is that right?”
“Un-huh…” She commented. “What are you doing?”
“I’m
just leaving the office.” He lied. “What are you doing?”
“Just sitting here talking to my girls.”
