“No.” She whispered, covering her mouth with her hands.
“This can’t be happening to me. An accident. Please…not Conrad.” Even though she was sitting down, she thought she would pass out. Not again. She couldn’t go through this again. Losing Charles, her ex-boyfriend, to a jumping accident was enough. She didn’t think she could go through this. Not with how much she loved Conrad.
“Addie, it’s going to be okay,” Nathan said, as he rushed around the desk to her side.
“He promised me. He said that there was only one jump in this field problem.” Tears started to spill onto her cheeks, she felt like she couldn’t breathe.
“He’s in the hospital. We drove him in. He was bitching the whole way.” Nathan stood Addie up and put his arms around her. Hugging her tightly.
“The doctors are already doing tests.”
She wrapped her arms around Nathan tightly. “What happened?”
“His chute collapsed. We aren’t sure why they do, but all of the air from the chute just went…poof. His chute collapsed, he was about fifteen feet up and there was no time to pull the reserve. It wouldn’t have filled with air in enough time.”
“We…we better go.” Addie pulled back a moment and looked up at Nathan.
“I need your keys. I’m not letting you drive.” Nathan stood there with his hand out.
Addie grabbed her purse from beside her desk and searched inside to hand Nathan her keys. Taking her hand with his other, they practically ran to her car. Peeling out of the parking lot to the hospital.
Conrad was getting pissed. He wasn’t sure how many damn doctors were going to shine that fucking light in his eyes. One more time, and he was going to low-crawl his way out of this fucking hospital if he had to. He’d suffer the consequences later. His head hurt…hell, his whole body hurt. When they scrubbed his camouflage off, he was sure that they took the first layer of skin with it.
“So, Sergeant Renner. I’m Doctor Malin, the neurologist. Tell me what happened.”
Conrad looked over at the pretty oriental doctor in her scrubs when she walked in his little room. He lifted an eyebrow at her and rubbed a hand down his face.
“We were doing a combat jump into a new area and I was the last one out. I was about fifteen feet or so from the ground when my chute lost air. Fucking collapsed,” he answered.
“Do you remember anything else?” Doctor Malin asked.
“A bumpy ass ride to come here. And now everyone is shining lights in my eyes, won’t let me sleep. I need to get a hold of my wife too.”
“We’ll get your wife. You don’t remember anyone waking you up before you came to in…”
“A Humvee, and no. I don’t know how long I was out. I know I was in and out. I don’t remember a long stretch of anything after I fell. That’s it.”
Doctor Malin put a hand on Conrad’s shoulder. “Alright. How’s your head feel on a scale of one to ten?”
“Fucking ten.” Conrad answered.
“We are waiting for your CT to come back and I’m going to have one of the nurses get an IV started. We’re going to get some fluids on board and a pain killer, as soon we get the results. Okay?” She smiled as she stood.
Soon after the doctor left, a nurse came in and started an IV. She was a little flirty blonde thing and it annoyed the shit out of him. Taping his IV, she adjusted the flow and left.
Frustrated because he couldn’t get a hold of Addie because he was in the hospital, he lay there with the bright florescent light buzzing above him to keep him company. The curtain parted again after a few minutes and the nurse came in to make sure he was still awake. Yes, he was awake and still pissed off.
He was pissed because his fucking chute collapsed, pissed because he was in the hospital, in these damn gowns. He was pissed that he didn’t have his phone to call Addie.
Oh hell…Addie.
She was going to freak the fuck out. He remembered seeing her at her parents’ house after they told her about Charles’ accident. The look on her face. The tears. He knew that she’d be beside herself until she got here. He was pissed at the flirty nurse, because she kept giving him these lusty looks, and lastly, he was pissed that he didn’t remember a damn thing until he came to in the Humvee, and didn’t remember the whole ride.
The curtain swung back again to reveal his Battalion Commander, Company Commander, his First Sergeant and damn it all to hell, Captain Crisman. What the actual fuck!
“Hey Renner. How you doin’ son?” His Battalion Commander asked, walking up to his bedside.
“Well sir, considering the circumstances, you’re doing a hell of a lot better than I am,” Conrad joked.
“We just wanted to check on you. The doc said that you were out for a while and was pretty worried. But your neuro doc out there said that she doesn’t think there is any permanent damage. So, they’re going to put you on convalescent leave for a few weeks to get back up on your feet.”
“Thanks sir, but I’m…”
“Non-negotiable.” His Commander cut in, slicing the air with his hand. “Do we need to send for your wife?”
“I sent Cale, Sir,” the First Sergeant responded. “There is history there. I’ll explain later.”
The Commander nodded his head in understanding and looked back at Conrad.
“So, two weeks Renner.” He held up two fingers. “You need to be cleared by the doc. No playing around or we’ll put you back on quarters.”
“I’m not a pussy. I can do my job…sir.” Conrad tried to argue, but the Battalion Commander put up his hand to stop him. “Yes sir.”
The curtain pulled back again and all Conrad could see was Addie’s stricken face. Tears running down her cheeks. As he was reclined to a comfortable sitting position, all he did was lift his arms for her and she ran into them, the men moving out of her way.
“Shhh. It’s okay baby. I’m alright,” Conrad soothed her, his arms coming around her. Her face was buried in his neck, her arms came around his shoulders, and she was half on him and half on his bed.
His Battalion Commander circled a finger in the air to the other men and they each took a moment to pat Conrad on the leg and took their leave.
“What the hell did they say to you?” Conrad growled.
Addie pulled back and sat on the edge of the bed, but wouldn’t let go of Conrad’s hands shaking her head.
“All I did was see Nathan and I knew…I just.” Conrad squeezed her hands. “All I could think about was losing you.”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa,” Conrad whispered. “I didn’t make it through the last deployment for you to lose me now.”
Addie swiped at her tears. “I just imagined the worst. Nathan said that you came to on the way here. But…” She shrugged and started to cry again.
He pulled her against his chest and just held her. His head was still pounding, but all was right in his world. He was with Addie. He looked up and saw Nathan, who looked as rough as he felt.
Conrad reached his IV free hand out to Nathan. “Thanks man.”
“Yeah. Had it been anyone else, she’d have passed out dude,” Nathan said, shaking his hand. “You guys are my family.”
Addie sat up and took Nathan’s hand that Conrad had just let go and kissed it. “You are family too Nathan.” She smiled.
“So, ah…what the fuck was Crisman doing here?” Nathan asked, sitting in the chair in the corner. “Other than ogling your wife.”
“What?” Addie asked. “Jim was here. Why?”
“He came in but didn’t say anything,” Conrad answered, shrugging.
The three of them sat there and made small talk until Doctor Malin came back in, pointed at Nathan and tilted her head.
“Brother in law.” Both Conrad and Nathan said in unison.
“Ah, well, you must be Mrs. Renner then.” Doctor Malin smiled at Addie. “I’d really like to keep you overnight just as a precaution. But, you’re going to be more comfortable at home. So, as long as you have someone stay with you
for the next forty-eight hours to check up on you, I’ll let you go home. You have a nasty concussion and scrapes and bruises all over. So, I’m going to have the nurse give you some pain medicine. So, you’re going to be a bit loopy. Any questions of me?”
Addie and Conrad both shook their heads no, but said thank you. The nurse came in with a syringe and pushed some medication in Conrad’s IV. They had him give Addie his ID card so she could get to the pharmacy to get his meds. By the time she got back to Conrad’s side, she was shocked at what she saw.
Nathan’s chair was scooted up closer to the bed and Conrad was sitting up, or his version of it, because he would list to one side occasionally and then right himself. He was trying to explain something, his hands flying wildly above his head.
“…because I was coming down so fast. That fucking parachute. I’ll bet Crisman packed it to get Addie.” His eyes got really wide. “He wants my wife, that fucker.” He nodded his head.
“But you have her, and she isn’t going anywhere,” Nathan agreed.
“Yessss. So, where was I? Oh…” Then he looked up and saw Addie standing there in the doorway.
“Sugartips…tibs…tics…tits.” He snapped his fingers and pointed at her.
“You made it. I’m ok. I just fell out of a plane.” Then he started laughing, which set Nathan off, which made Conrad laugh even more.
Addie chuckled as she walked in and pulled the curtain back to enclose them in Conrad’s room.
“Gave you the good stuff didn’t they?” She nodded her head putting his medicine bottles in her purse.
The flirty nurse came in with some paperwork for Addie to sign since Conrad was under the influence of narcotics, she explained everything to Addie and then disconnected Conrad’s IV. Even in his drugged up state, he knew that the nurse wasn’t as flirty now that Addie was here.
“She’s not flirting with me because you’re here,” Conrad whispered loudly to Addie.
Addie just smiled at the nurse, who gave a tightlipped smile back.
“Did you know,” Conrad started, with a sly grin on his face. “That my wife calls me Mr. Pringles?”
Addie was standing there with one arm across her chest, her other hand held her forehead. This wasn’t happening. He was going to tell people why she called him Mr. Pringles. She was drunk when she’d said it. He, however, was under the influence now.
“You know what Conrad? I don’t think anyone wants to hear why.” Addie moved over to his side.
“I do.” Nathan raised a hand laughing.
“It’s because my d…”
Addie had her hand over his mouth so fast, that he mumbled out the rest. Nathan was in the corner laughing his ass off. The nurse just threw Addie a mock smile, saying that they were free to go and walked out.
“Oh for the love of God. Conrad. Stop.” Addie stated, taking her hand from his mouth and started looking around. “Where is your uniform?”
“He was in and out of consciousness when he came in so they cut it off of him.” Nathan offered.
Another nurse poked her head in the room just at that moment. “Here are some scrubs. We had to cut off his uniform. His boots are intact though, under the bed.” She pointed to his boots and cut up uniform.
“Thank you so much,” Addie gave the older nurse a genuine smile. “Tell me, please…how long does this nonsense last?” She asked pointing to Conrad who was laughing about something with Nathan.
“Get him home and to bed and he’ll calm down. We gave him a cocktail of things to help ease the pain and such. The side effect of giddiness is quite normal, I assure you.” She chuckled and handed Addie the scrubs.
“Feel better Sergeant Renner. Mrs. Renner, you’ve got your hands full with that one. Good luck.” She pointed at Conrad, then smiled and left.
“She doesn’t know the meaning of hands full,” Addie mumbled under her breath. “Alright lover boy, let’s get dressed.”
“Good song.” Conrad stated.
He was still laughing when he looked at Addie as she got him out of the gown and shook out the scrub top for him to put on. She helped him get it over his head and pulled down. Then she unfolded the bottoms and pulled back the sheet and blanket that was covering his legs. He went to sit up but got dizzy, so Nathan reached out to grab him while Addie pulled the pants up his legs.
“Don’t look at my junk Cale,” Conrad laughed. “You’ll only be jealous.”
Addie shook her head and rolled her eyes.
“I can hold my own.” Nathan let go of Conrad so he could stand up. He came around the other side of the bed to help his friend, while Addie pulled his pants up. They got his boots on and Addie went to get the car while the nurse came in with a wheelchair to wheel him to the car.
The ride home was uneventful except for getting two laughing men up the stairs and getting Conrad into the shower and then bed.
“This brings back memories of basic training and deployments.” Conrad Stated. “But you aren’t sleeping in my bed.”
As soon as Conrad hit the pillows, he was out. Addie left a note for him on the bedtable and took Nathan to get his car from the company area. Addie drove back to the apartment to her husband and Nathan said he’d get Conrad’s stuff from the field and bring it over.
The next few days were a challenge as Conrad was moody from the medicine. But it helped his headaches and whiplash. He’d apologized to Addie so many times, that he felt like he was on repeat. But she took it in stride, saying that they were married, things like this were bound to happen etcetera.
Monday came and Addie was off to work. Conrad kicked around the house, cleaning his guns, doing laundry and putting the dishes in the dishwasher away. He wanted to go out to the softball fields or work out, but he was still a little dizzy and didn’t want to end up passing out or worse. Whatever worse would be. So, he kicked around the apartment.
Summer was in full swing, and the kids were on their last week of school, so he decided to go down to the pool. It helped immensely. Then he sat in the hot tub and felt relief like no other. Except when he was having sex with his wife. The hot water bubbled around his bruised body almost feeling like it had healing powers. He stretched out his arms and sank in as far as he could without falling asleep and drowning himself.
By Friday, it found him most of the day in the hot tub as well. He felt ten times better afterward for it too. He’d done the laundry, took stuff to the dry cleaner for Addie, he’d taken her lunch a few times too. Today, he’d gone to pick up Chinese for dinner so Addie wouldn’t have to cook. It was prime season for Soldiers to move around so Addie came home exhausted most days and would today too. He’d set the table and opened the containers just as she walked in the door.
They ate dinner and chatted about plans for the summer and eventually moving from Fort Polk. They decided that going to Italy would be an adventure for both of them. It was going to be fun to explore Europe together. Conrad cleaned the dishes as Addie went to get a shower.
When Conrad came into the bedroom he saw that the chair that was usually in the corner, was set up facing his side of the bed. But the bed was made. What in the hell? He went to move it when Addie came out of the bathroom.
“Leave it.” Was all she said.
“Okaaaay?”
“I want to do something for you.” Addie walked into the closet and pulled out the box that they kept some of their adult toys in.
Conrad smiled. “What do you need Addie?”
“Besides a good flogging? Just you.” She smiled and set the box on the bedside table.
“I can accommodate you if you want.”
“Nah, I want to do something for you. You’ve been moody and achy since your accident. So, I don’t want you to have to do anything.” Addie opened the box lid. “All you have to do is get naked and lay down.”
Conrad stripped and lay on the bed. “So…”
“Ah, ah, ah. You can talk all you want. You touch, I stop.” Addie dropped her towel and sank into the chai
r, bringing her ass to the edge, then spread her legs wide, draping one on the side of the chair and the other propped on the bed.
“Fucking hell Addie.” Conrad’s cock got hard instantly it seemed. He reached for it, stroking it lightly.
Addie smiled as scooted down a bit more and Conrad saw a hint of green crystal from the butt-plug that he’d given her. His smiled grew broad. He watched as she lifted a small dildo, that he’d also bought her for when he was out in the field. She’d lubed it up with the coconut flavored gel and started sliding the tip of it around her pussy lips.
“Slide it in,” Conrad said.
So she did…sliding it in a little deeper with each push in and out. When she finally slid it all the way in, her head fell back and she moaned loudly.
“You want that to be my dick don’t you baby?”
She nodded her head yes, yet continued to fuck herself with the dildo. Her breathing sped up, her moans coming louder now. She looked at Conrad lying on the bed naked, stroking his cock. She imagined it was his cock that was inside her, fucking her. Not the synthetic thing in her now. She sped up, like Conrad would if he was inside her. She closed her eyes.
“That’s it baby, puck that little pussy like I would. Harder…push it in harder. Oh yeah. I can smell your hot little cunt. The mixture of coconut and you…intoxicating. I want to eat that tight little pussy. You want me to eat you don’t you? Then you want me to fuck the living shit out of you. ” Conrad prodded her. Knowing that she needed his words to get her off.
That was all she needed. “Ohmygod…Conrad! Conraaaaad!” She moaned. Her legs shook as she came, her breathing was fast. She left the dildo inside of her as her hands rested on her legs.
Conrad gave her a few minutes to come down from her high.
“Take it out Addie. Before I do.”
She sat up a bit and slowly slid the dildo out of her. She stood up and took Conrad’s cock in one hand and with her other she brought the dildo to her mouth and licked the head of it. Conrad groaned.
“Fucking hell woman. Will you just drop that thing and sit on my face. That was hot as fuck.” Conrad was still stroking his cock; Addie’s hand was wrapped around his.
