"What about Helga?" asked Gedda. "Tomei did not touch her. Isn't she pregnant?"
Cassandra looked over at Helga.
"Yes, I am," said Helga. "That is the main reason why Cassandra is here."
"Ladies, let's head outside," ordered Octavia. "I don't feel like getting cursed and having warts appear on my face."
The rest of the women laughed at that and left the wagon. Tomei and the other elderly woman also left. When they were alone, Cassandra turned to face Karina and Helga.
"I am sorry for the secrecy, but Helga is carrying a special girl inside her," said Cassandra. "Her daughter will be a powerful witch, one we can sense even before it is born. I am here to ask Helga to come with me. I will train and protect both her and her daughter. What I need is your consent, Karina. It may be years before you see either of them again."
"My consent?" asked a startled Karina. "You don't need my consent. Helga is a grown woman and neither a serf or a slave."
"True," said Cassandra. "This is a strange situation, but that is what makes Helga's daughter so unique."
"I only want for Helga to be safe and happy," said Karina. "The same goes for her daughter. If Helga stays with me, I'll raise the girl like she was my own."
"Karina, I don't think you understand," said Helga. "She is your own."
"What do you mean?"
Helga smiled. "You are her father."
