Laughter followed him out into the night. On his bike, he took a detour, letting the wheels eat up the blacktop, so the vibration and wind could clear his mind. The thought of locking himself in with a woman still curdled his stomach. But Evonne wasn’t just some woman and if anyone even tried to push up on her, he’d bust their head wide open. Catch 22. If I think this out any more, I’m going to start producing estrogen.

Head clear, he pulled into the driveway a few hours later. He got off the bike and glanced down at his wrist. Almost midnight. Thoughts of a sleepy, pliable Evonne made his dick hard. The woman turned him on without even trying. One heated look, trust-filled action or sign of affection and he was ready to take her against the wall. He’d never had a woman treat him the way she did. Like a friend. Someone she enjoyed spending time with and also happened to fuck. Before, he’d always been a means to an end, a scapegoat or a rung on a ladder to be climbed.

He opened the door and the lingering scent of something delicious and warm hit him. The red light visible in the kitchen told him she’d placed something in the crock pot to keep it warm for him. His stomach tightened as he locked the door behind him and strode to her room. Easing the door open, he studied her sleeping form in the light that came in from the hallway.

She rolled onto her side. “Rocco?”

The sound of his real name on her tongue hit him right in the fucking gut. He clomped over to her bed, placed his hands beneath her body and lifted her up. “Yeah it’s me, Firecracker.”

“What are you doing?” Her voice sounded raspy and sleep worn.

“Bringing you where you belong…in bed with me.”

Her eyelids fluttered and she struggled to focus on him as he moved down the hallway.

Inside his room, he kicked the door shut behind him and tossed her on the bed.

She squeaked and bounced, pushing herself up with her arms.

Rocky crawled onto the bed, covering her with his weight as he devoured her mouth. Her eyes drifted shut and he fed at the sweetness of her lips. Their tongues touched and tangled. Her legs fell open and he pushed the oversized shirt up around her waist, grinding his hips into hers as he rubbed his bulge over her moist heat. “So wet. I can feel you through your panties and my jeans.” He nipped her lip and soothed the spot with his tongue, trailing a moist line up her neck to the sensitive spot behind her ears. Her back arched. “That shit’s mine now, Firecracker. My pussy and I want it.” He sat back on his heels and rubbed her clit through her panties.

  She moaned helplessly. “Y-yours?”

“That’s right. Open those eyes and look at me. You know I want you to see what I do to you.” Her breath came out in tiny, whimper-like puffs of air that had his cock straining in his jeans. “Damn, I need that special flavor.” He slid down the bed, kissing her thighs as he went. Gripping her inner thighs, he spread her legs wide, inhaling the scent of her arousal. “So good.”

  “God, Rocco.”

“I want to hear you say it.”

  “S-say what?”

He licked the inside of her thigh. “That this is my pussy.”

  “It’s your pussy.”

“No, I don’t think you’re feeling me, mama.” He peered up at her. “I want exclusive rights to this. You understand?”

  “Rocky—”

“No,” he barked, tightening his hold on her thighs. “Here with you, I’m always Rocco.”

  She gulped. “I-I don’t understand.”

“We’ve been dancing around this for weeks. It’s time we stop. I want everyone to know this shit is mine.”

“Oh…” Her mouth formed an O.

He snickered. “That’s all you have to say?”

  “I-I’m just shocked.”

“Nothing to think about. It either is…” He swiped his thumb over her swollen clit, adding friction with her silken underwear. “Or it isn’t.”

“And if it is?” she whispered, peering up at him from beneath lowered lids.

He hooked his fingers into the sides of her panties and slid them downward. She lifted her hips and he eased them off, tossing the scrap of material over his shoulders. “Then, I’m going to take care of you, mama. ’Cause that’s what I do to my belongings. Give me your hands.” She reached down and he laced their fingers, getting comfortable between her legs. Holding her gaze, he licked a path down her slippery slit and sucked her clit into his mouth, sampling the salty-sweet taste he couldn’t get enough of. Her breath hitched and she gripped his fingers as he continued to work her over, taking her higher as he dined on her like a meal tailor made for one.

Her chest heaved and her eyes glazed over. Her lids lowered, and she forced them back open. She flew over the edge.

  “Y-yours,” she panted.

He growled his approval, giving her pussy a few last laps of his tongue before he unlaced their fingers and moved from the bed, shedding his clothes.

  Chapter Seven

“Hello?” Evonne mumbled, answering the phone.

“Where the fuck have you been? Mom and Dad are worried to death. I came by your house and it’s clear you haven’t been there in weeks.”

The sound of her brother’s voice became like nails on a chalkboard. “Paul? Why is it any of your business what I’m doing? Maybe I’m just tired of being up their asses all the time¸” Evonne said.

“You owe them more,” Paul said.

“How long am I supposed to suffer for that?” Evonne sighed. “I was a kid who made a bad decision.

  “That everyone suffered greatly for.”

“Because it was a cakewalk for me, Paul?” She snapped.

“It tore apart this family, broke something inside us it took years to get over. I don’t want to go back there,” Paul said, ignoring her defense.

Evonne closed her eyes against the guilt that washed over her like a wave. One bad decision and she’d ruined so many lives. If she’d known driving so late when she was exhausted would cause a wreck that would devastate her family she would’ve done things differently. “How many times can I say I’m sorry?” It always came back to this. All her decisions, the dutiful daughter act she put on to make up for the one time she lapsed in judgment.

“Not nearly enough. Now I repeat, where are you?” Paul barked.

  She flinched.

“Who the fuck is that?” Rocky roared, snatching the phone from her. “I don’t know who you think you’re talking to, but you disrespect my girl one more time and we’re going to have a problem.”

“Rocco, it’s my brother, please?” Evonne said.

“I don’t give a fuck who he is,” Rocky said.

She wrestled the phone away from the fuming male. “Look, Paul, now is not a good time.”

“Are you fucking kidding me? This is about a man.”

She held the phone away from her ear, cringing.

“Look, I’m fine. Why are you even there and breaking into my house?” Evonne asked.

“It’s not breaking in when you have a key. I meant to surprise you. Guess it’s me who’s getting the shock of a lifetime.” The disappointment in his tone made her heart ache.

  “I’m thirty—”

“And were on your way up in life. Or so I thought. I always knew you’d backslide to that flighty girl who only cared about herself,” Paul said.

“Why, because I wasn’t a yes-man like you? Following in Daddy’s footsteps and joining the military?” Evonne asked.

“Because all you wanted to do was keep your head in the clouds instead of focusing on things that would actually provide you with a decent life.”

  Evonne huffed.

“It’s obvious whoever this guy is he isn’t a good influence,” Paul drawled.

  “You don’t even know Rocky.”

“Rocky. Are you with a fucking white guy, Evonne?”

  “Are you kidding me?”

“No, are you? Jesus. Who are you and what did you do to the sister I saw the last time I was home on leave?” Paul asked.

“She grew the fuck up and found herself again.”

“Or…she’s rebelling. What mess will I have to pull you out of this time? How much will our family suffer?”

His words took the wind out of her sails. Would Levi go after them to get to her? She gasped and her body shook. I can’t have this on my head, Jesus Christ.

“Fuck this bullshit.” Rocky snatched the phone from her ear and disconnected.

“I need to go to Levi.”

“The fuck did you just say?” Rocky roared.

“What if he goes after my family? I c-can’t live with that. This has to stop, now.”

“Because your life isn’t worth as much as theirs? You didn’t do anything, mama.” Rocky held her face between his hands. “He chose you, came after you, deceived you. There was nothing you could’ve done to prevent that.”

“No.” She jerked away. “Don’t comfort me now. It’s not what I need.”

“Yes it is. Look, I don’t know the back story between you and your family, but shit seems off,” Rocky said, gentling his voice.

“I’ve already put them through enough.” Her voice shook.

“What are you talking about? You were a fucking prodigy. I don’t know many women your age so accomplished.”

“You don’t know.” She shook her head.

  “Then tell me.”

Her gut twisted. “That night, the accident, I shouldn’t have driven home. I fell asleep for a second, swerved and…” Her heart pounded and she shook her head.

“Hey, hey. You’re here with me. It’s not like you were wasted, honey.”

“It ruined everything. Paul gave up his scholarship; my parents damn near went into debt. For a silly, stupid mistake and I promised myself, once I got better, I would never put them in that position again.”

“That’s why you were acting like some 1950s housewife?” Rocky asked, caressing her cheeks with his thumbs.

“Yes.” Hot liquid burned her eyes. “No one should suffer because I’m a fuckup.”

  “Shut the fuck up, mama.”

  She blinked at him. “What?”

“You heard me, if I ever hear you say that again. I’ll put you over my knee and spank you. In life, shit just happens. You can’t control everything. Shit spirals out of control. Trust me, I know. We do the best we can with what we’re dealt. They’re fucked up for making you feel that way. Love shouldn’t be a cage, no matter how pretty they decorate it.”

  “I—”

“You’re mine. I won’t let anyone talk shit about you, and that includes yourself. We’ve been in a good spot, let’s keep it that way. Wolf’s at our door, and we need to be on our game. Hey.” His voice became sharp and impossible to ignore. “We’re living free now, right? And this.” He cupped her pussy beneath her gown. “Is mine.”

A jolt of electricity sent a shiver up her spine.

“I’m not your everyday guy. I will fuck his world up and not feel bad about it. When you accepted me, you agreed to live by my rules. You chose this life. I’m gonna let everyone know who you belong to because I don’t do shit half assed. I’d never keep you away from your family, but you’d best believe, I’m going to set them straight.”

The possessive words and the conviction behind them drove away the demons grappling for a foothold in her mind. The phone rang again, and he picked it up, turned it off, then tossed it onto the floor. “I want your full attention on me for what I’m about to do.” He winked and rolled her onto her back. “Now open up those legs, and let me inside my pussy.” He rubbed his swelling cock between her nether lips and she grew wet. “That’s it, baby. You’re always so wet for me. Can I come inside you bare, baby?”

“I-I’ve never let anyone do that.” She stared at him, hypnotized by the pure lust and need visible in his eyes.

“Me either, but I won’t be satisfied until I feel you with nothing between us but skin and fill you up with my come.”

“Shit,” she whispered. His words curled her toes.

“You like the thought of that, mama?” He licked his lips.

“What are you doing to me, Rocco?” she whispered huskily, drunk on him again.

“Staking my claim.” He nudged her entrance with the tip of his cock and she shuddered. “I don’t give a bitch my protection lightly. You understand?” He pushed his entire length inside her.

Her inner muscles yielded, clinging to him. She wrapped her legs around his waist, hooking her leg around his thigh and burying her heel in the small of his back.

“So tight, baby… That’s right, wrap those legs around me.” He braced his arms on both sides of her head and she gripped his biceps as they moved together. Each stroke, he penetrated deeper, bottoming out over and over as their gazes locked. He took her higher and she fell harder. Here with Rocky, nothing else mattered but the way they made each other feel. There was a selfish sort of freedom in that and God, did she deserve to think about herself for once.

He suddenly tilted his hips, brushing her cervix and her walls clamped down as she came—hard. Adrift on a sea of bliss, she deferred to Rocky, allowing him to lead. The trust she gave him made her feel scared and exhilarated. He held her heart like no man before him, seeing past the walls and false representation she’d fed people for years. As they went up in flames, she relished the spark he ignited inside her. He’d pulled the real Evonne out kicking and screaming, and now she couldn’t go back.

“Oh, that’s it, mama. Love it when you come for me.” He buried his face against her neck, thrusting a few more times before his body quaked and he filled her with his fiery liquid.

Evonne wrapped her arms and legs around him, cradling him to her body and accepting everything he was, and what life would mean now.

Thoroughly ravished and a bit sore, Evonne studied her reflection in the mirror as she dressed. I look like a fucking leopard. Dark spots dotted her skin along with a few dark smudges she knew would fit Rocky’s fingers. A smile twitched on her lips. She liked the physical brand. He had a matching set down his back and on his chest.

“Firecracker, we need to get a move on,” Rocky said.

“Coming.” She tugged the shirt down over her head, smoothed down a few errant strands of hair and spun around, leaving the bathroom.

“You sure you want to just show up at the parents? I ain’t never done the take me home and introduce me to the folks thing.” Rocky furrowed his brow, studying her with those enigmatic eyes as she put on her helmet.

“I’m not going to hide and I want to see for myself that they’re okay.” She bit her bottom lip. The thought of Levi going after her parents had planted a seed of worry that continued to blossom. So far the collateral damage had been limited, but she felt no doubt about how dangerous these men were.

“You know we can’t tell them what’s going on, right?”

“Yeah, I know.” She nodded. “I figure Dad’s rank in the military and my brother’s paranoia will keep them safe and sound.”

  “Paranoia?”

“Oh yeah, Dad will take one look at you and tighten ranks. Try to control me into doing what he wants.” She sighed.

“And you’ll let him? Doesn’t sound like the woman I’ve come to know.”

“I owe my brother. If it weren’t for me, he would’ve had a full ride and never gone into the military. My hospital bills were astronomical. I stole his moment.”

“Fuck that. Mad because you fought your way back from the dead?” He inclined his head.

She glanced down. “I was always the disappointment child, the write-off who squandered her potential and I stole his glory.” A lump formed in her throat and she swallowed. “I have to live with that.”

Rocky started up the motorcycle. “One thing I know, mama, the only life we can control is our own. Can’t take the blame for shit that goes wrong.”

His words piqued her curiosity. There was a story there. He took off and she pressed up against him, knowing now wasn’t the time.

  * * * * *

The thought of them blaming Evonne for living, instantly made him dislike her family. He knew why his mother had neglected him. She was a young single mother turned junkie. What was her parents’ excuse? He knew the area she’d given him directions to. Not quite filthy rich but damn close. It made him nervous. Being with her was stepping into a new skin, itchy and full of growing pains.

He’d never had a woman he wanted to claim and now he had all these emotions detonating inside him. If he could lock her up straight Rapunzel style and hide her from the world, he would. Caring made you vulnerable and he cared a whole hell of a lot. He steered the bike on the street, weaving through traffic, soaking up the feel of the sun on his face and the wind in his hair before he got sucked into the pointless drama of uptight, prudish pricks. They pulled up into a two-story brick building that had him wondering how much money her parents tucked away.

She laughed at his expression, removing her helmet and shaking out her ponytail. “Inheritance from the grandparents made this purchase possible. Trust me, I’m not hiding any insane wealth.”

Rocky shook his head. No, I am. The money from his fights had amassed nicely over the years. She didn’t need to know that yet, however. He turned off the bike and they stored their shit in the saddlebags. Her ass distracted him in the skintight black jeans she loved to wear. Her round globes were made for cupping and smacking. He cleared his throat, not about to meet Mom and Pop with a hard-on the size of Texas. She had an understated grace to her movements that held him spellbound.

She glanced over her shoulder and grinned. “You coming?”

“Yeah, just wondering if I’ll be shot on sight,” he said.

She rolled her eyes and giggled. “I’m pretty sure you can handle it, Rocco.”

His name rolled off her tongue and he growled. “We’re going to take this shit old school, mama, I want you wearing my cut, so everyone knows who you belong to.”

  “Ro—”

He stepped up behind her. “Now ring the doorbell.”

She nodded her head dumbly and he kept his arm wrapped around her waist, palming her belly.
