SAMANTHA: Never Say Never (The Powell's Book 2)

“You sure?” he asked curiously.
“I’m fine. Come on.”
Adam got on behind her and held onto her as she raced down the street to the highway and then to Shane and Tracey’s.
Epilogue
Six months later
“So much for the small wedding,” Samantha said sarcastically.
“Aww, darlin’ it wasn’t bad at all. Our Princess was wonderful wasn’t she?”
“Yes, Kayla did a great job.” Samantha smiled.
“She’s having fun and eating up all of the attention,” Adam said.
“Little Tyler did wonderful too. He was quiet during the entire ceremony,” Samantha said.
“He’s very alert for a three-month-old,” Adam said.
“Yes! And Ms. Kayla thinks he belongs to her,” Samantha giggled.
“So, Mrs. Westbrook, are you ready for our honeymoon?”
“Yes, I am. I hope Shane and Tracey can handle both Kayla and Tyler,” Samantha said.
“Come on now. They’ve had Kayla over plenty of times since Tyler was born. Besides it’ll only be for a few days before we pick her up and take her on vacation with us,” Adam said.
“That’s true. And, Declan’s around too.”
“Your cousins are a hoot. I thought Austin was crazy, but his brothers, Brett and Justice are just as bad,” Adam said.
“Yes, they’re worse.”
“If Justice tries to hit on Allison Grant one more time, I think your brother is going to deck him,” Adam chuckled.
“Justice is messing with Declan. They think he’s too serious,” Samantha giggled.
“Well wife, are you ready to leave?”
“We can’t leave yet, Adam.”
“Well can we at least find a quiet place so that I can be alone with my wife,” Adam said.
“You’ll have me to yourself soon enough,” she said, kissing him.
Adam returned her kiss, and the next thing they heard was the clinking of silverware on the glasses—so that the bride and groom could kiss.
“We may as well continue to oblige them,” Adam chuckled against her lips.
“Adam?”
“Yes, love?”
“Who invited all of this press?”
“I have no idea. Now hush up and kiss me, woman.”
The flashing of cameras and lights were all around them—they tuned out everyone and were engrossed in each other.

Daniel sat back watching the coverage of Samantha and Adam Westbrook’s wedding ceremony. Why this was newsworthy, he didn’t know. He had to admit that the ceremony was beautiful as were Samantha and her daughter Kayla.
His cell phone rang. Daniel frowned, wondering who it could be.
“Hello.”
“Daniel?”
“Mother. What is it that you want?”
“Daniel, why am I just now hearing that I may have a grandchild? Where is this grandchild, and why has my grandchild been kept from me and your father?”
“That’s because you don’t have a grandchild, mother. How in the hell do you and your husband expect to have a relationship with a supposed grandchild when you’ve never had one with your son?”
“Daniel Ashby, you watch your tone with me,” came his mother’s sharp reply.
“Well, you can go back to whatever it is that you were doing. You don’t have a grandchild, nor will you ever from me. Maybe one of your husband’s mistresses will produce or have produced a child, and they can have one for you.”
Daniel heard his mother’s intake of breath over the phone line and smiled. Good. He’d gotten to her.
“Oh where did we go wrong with you?” his mother asked.
“Oh, you didn’t know? I was born. According to you two, that’s where you went wrong. You had me!” he stormed, disconnected the call, and threw the phone across the room.
Daniel thought back to the document that he’d had delivered to Samantha relinquishing all of his rights to Kayla, giving Adam free reign to adopt her as his own.
He looked at the beautiful, olive-complexioned little girl, with ringlets of curls surrounding her oval shaped baby face and knew he’d done the right thing. He was somewhat envious of the relationship the three of them had. They were happy, and it showed. Good for them.
He looked over at his trophy and smiled. He’d finally won a cup. Funny how that victory was bittersweet—he thought he’d feel much better than he did. Instead, he was surrounded by a bunch of people who didn’t give a rat’s ass about him. Now here he sat—alone-except for the bottle of Jack Daniel’s that he clutched in one hand and the envelope of photos that Adam had given him. He wondered how he’d gotten them? He didn’t know who took them—that worried him. He took big swigs from the bottle and drank until he passed out.
