What this has to do with the director of Kill Bill and the maker of fridges and power tools, I haven’t a clue, but ask,
‘Where are you?’
‘The Museo del Prado, Madrid. And you, dear boy?’
‘Somewhere near Lamb Lane. But…’
One of the suited and booted presses the red phone button. ‘Come with us,’ the other says. Then I recognise them. Tony and Nigel White. My tormentors in the first year of secondary school.
‘Can’t be,’ I say.
‘Can,’ they say, and I’m being dragged down London alleys by two boys wearing Crombies, sta-press, and Ben Shermans, fringe and buckles, their Blakeys sparking on the paving slabs, their Italian suits a distant and future purchase.
