“What you want to be given?” she questioned, and waited until he nodded agreement. “I think you might tell. If it’s something very important,” she added.
“Or something you want very much?” Drew suggested.
When Sarah nodded permission, the little boy’s eyes cut quickly to Justin’s and then came back to hers. “You called Brynmoor your papa,” he said.
“He was my papa,” Sarah said. “And when my sister and I were little girls, just about your age, I thought he was the best papa in the whole world.”
“And you loved him very much.”
“I loved him very much,” Sarah said.
“Because he was your real papa?” Drew asked.
Sarah’s eyes found Justin’s face, and then they returned to meet that set of matching Spenser blue. “I loved him because he loved me,” she said. “That’s all that matters, Drew. That’s all that’s ever real.”
“Then...” The child turned to face the man who was watching them both. “Then I would like for you to be my papa,” he said. “That’s what I would like more than anything else.”
“And that’s what I would like more than anything else,” the earl of Wynfield said softly.
“And now,” Drew said happily, apparently relieved to have that settled to everyone’s satisfaction, “now I shall tell you all about the tigers.”
