I grinned, biting my lip and feeling like a cheeky minx.
“So, you think you’ll become a cop one day?”
Eric’s quiet question threw me. It was so far from my thought zone it took me a moment to answer him. He swiveled his head to look at me, resting his chin lightly on my chest.
Pursing my lips, I wrinkled my nose. “I think I would hate that.”
“Sullivan’s right, though.” Eric kissed my collarbone. “You are amazing and you helped so many people by having the courage to follow through on what you saw.” Perching up on his elbow, he gazed down at me. I could see his regret at not believing me from the outset, but he’d apologized enough already.
I ran my finger over his forehead, trying to eradicate the frown lines. “Thanks for coming in to rescue me.”
His gaze filled with affection. “I always will, Caity. Even if it means another blow to the head or a punch to the face.” I chuckled with him, but the sound dispersed quickly as his voice grew serious again. “That’s a promise, okay? No matter what, I’m always going to be here for you. I’ve made up my mind. You’re my girl...forever.”
My heart squeezed tight as a giddy euphoria bloomed in my chest. A broad smile stretched across my lips as I ran my hand to the nape of his neck and pulled him down on top of me again. His sweet words ran through my brain as he kissed me senseless and I lost myself to another moment that was pure perfection.
There were no more doubts.
No matter what life was going to throw at us. No matter what else I saw.
Eric and I were in this together...until the very end.
Can they make it?
