Elixir Page 11

by James O. Sy, PhD

Jerry was quite elated about the wonderful miracle that the elixir did for Mary. He had stayed with his ex-love at the Kaiser hospital for three days prior to Jake’s arrival from Asia. The ex-professor was despondent when the doctors told him that his former partner would physically cease to exist, generously speaking, in about a month’s time. That the elixir was able to reverse the ravages of the disease and allow Mary to escape the near-terminal grip of the deadly stage four cancer was simply mind-boggling, awe-inspiring, and providential.

Being rooted firmly in his Christian faith and values, Jerry felt, deep in his heart, that the miraculous recovery of Mary was a heaven-orchestrated assist. It was only through the compassionate and tender, loving care of the Almighty that such a blessing and a glorious miracle occurred.

Not wanting to waste a grand opportunity to use these vials of magical elixirs to benefit a swath of humanity, Jerry and his young son JT came out with this bold, exceedingly-brilliant move: they would auction off, to the highest bidders, two of the four vials of miracle potions.

  CHAPTER 38

  THE GRAND VISION

Father and son decided to take the following course of action: One vial would stay with Jake for safekeeping. Another vial would be shipped to this G-14 government researcher, with the elixir inside cryogenically frozen. Jerry would perform studies and thorough, exhaustive investigations to identify the possible source or origins of its miracle-performing properties. Two vials would be auctioned off to separate individuals in a highest-bidder format. In addition, there were also stipulations that the winning bidders must agree to.

These two winning bidders must be financially capable and are good global citizens. They must each do an annual cumulative 500 hours of service to benefit the needy, the poor, and the unfortunate. In addition to their winning bids, each one of these successful bidders must make annual donations of $10 million dollars for seven continuous years to a nonprofit charity fund that would be set up. This fund would be established with the sole purpose of helping the homeless, the destitute, the forgotten, and the forsaken of their community.

The brilliance of the plan is in the singularity of its purpose. Its sole purpose is to use the fund generated from the auction to benefit all of humanity. This is just a prototype, a scaled-down version of the grand vision that was inspired and revealed to the sagacious Jerry.

Because of the limitations presented by the availability of just two vials of the miracle drug, a much grander and more magnificent version would have to wait.

(Note: Book Two will solve the limited-availability problem of the magical elixir and will unfold the execution of the gloriously magnificent blueprint that the Almighty has planned to serve the poverty-stricken, hopeless, forsaken, and shunned segment of humanity.)

In this scaled-down prototype, all the homeless, the poor, the desperate, the neglected, the needy, and the destitute of El Monte and Baldwin Park, California, would be gathered and housed into a sparkling, newly built multipurpose ten-story building.

There would be an initial sorting out of this sad, miserable, and piteous group. The drug addicts and drug-dependents would be sent to rehab centers to wean them out of their addiction, and also to detoxify them. The alcoholics would be sent to proper institutions to eradicate their alcohol dependency. Those suffering from mental illness would be sent to institutions and psychiatric wards to give them the help they needed.

Once this sorting process was accomplished, then the difficult but necessary steps would follow. The building would serve not only as a shelter for these neglected, desperate, and shunned segment of society but also as a source of food for the physical body and provider of nourishment for the soul. In other words, the homeless shelter would provide nutritious meals for them. Then a rotating group of religious teachers and scholars would encourage and stimulate their spiritual growth.

But it is more than just a shelter. It is also to serve as a training and retraining center. These wretched group will be taught employable trades and skills, and eventually helped in securing jobs necessary to support their daily living. Once they are back on their feet and regained their self-worth, their self-confidence, and their sense of dignity, they will again be allowed to join the fold of society. They will become important contributors to a vibrant, thriving California economy. And the fervent hope is that, with their exposure to the teachings of religious scholars and educators, each one of them will now lead a life in harmony of God’s grandiose plan for all of humanity.

  ………

It is the simplicity of His design that is both awe-inspiring and glorious:

Each one of us exists in this physical world so that everyone is able to help, to care, and to love one another—in our own small way, to help make this world a warm, compassionate, loving, and better place (than before each one came into being). All these blessings—undeserved assistance and unearned grace freely bestowed by the Almighty—will hopefully encourage each one of us to live a life worthy of living, in a spirit of peace, care, harmony, and love.

  ………

The auction came and went. The two winning bidders paid sixty-eight million dollars each for the privilege of owning one vial of the precious miracle elixir.
