In Our Dream Page 7

by Jacqueline Paige

She cried out and lost the rhythm as she started to come again. He held onto her hips and forced her to keep moving through it. Moaning, she dropped forward again and tried to catch her breath. He pulled her hair so that her face was level with his and kissed her frantically.

She wasn’t even sure how he moved without separating them, but she found herself on her back with him still buried deep inside her.

“Not done with you yet, babe.” He sucked at her throat. “Won’t ever get enough of you.” He pushed up on his hands and looked down into her face as he moved roughly into her again. She was so sensitive she wasn’t sure if she could do this.

He pounded into her, and then lifted her one leg so he could move deeper with the next stroke. When their bodies connected, she moaned as the heat shot through her again, her eyes capturing his. Sweat glistened on his muscles, and he was the sexiest man she’d ever seen at that moment. His dark eyes never left hers as he thrust in and out of her with incredible force.

A wave hit her and she cried out the next time his body slapped against hers. Her muscles clenched tighter around him and she came again at the same time he did. She was so sensitive she could feel the hot liquid shooting into her. She had never felt this consumed by a man before, and as her entire body floated around the room, she smiled up at him just as he collapsed half on top of her.

He kissed her breathlessly as he pulled from her body and moved to his side. He kissed her again as he pulled her tight against him. “If I’d known sex with a wife would be that amazing, I would have gotten one sooner.”

She laughed quietly and nuzzled her face into his neck. “I thought you were going to break me.”

He turned his head, concern in his eyes. “Did I hurt you?”

Her heart jerked from the look he was giving her. She smiled. “Probably, but I don’t care.” Brushing at her disastrous hair, she managed to get most of it out of her face. “How’s your side.”

He closed his eyes. “Next question.”

She pushed up on her elbow and ran her hand down to the bandage. “Does it hurt?”

He opened his eyes. “A bit, but I really don’t care.” He pulled her across him as he leaned onto his back and kissed her so tenderly the whole room spun. “I’d do it again to be with you, Jennah.” He searched her face and then smirked. “So, is the age thing really so bad now?”

She blushed and shook her head. “I could probably live with it.” She sat up. “We need to get our clothes together. How much time is left?”

He lifted his head and looked around the room. “No clock. I have no idea.”

She scrambled off the bed and picked up his pants. After setting them on the bed, she went back over to get her own clothing. Grabbing her underwear, she pulled them on and then bent down to get her bra. She turned around to see him still lying on the bed as she’d left him. He was watching her with a soft look on his face. “What?”

He grinned. “You are beautiful.” He crooked his finger at her.

She blushed again like some schoolgirl. She stood there with her bra in her hands for a moment. Her gaze ran down his body and she saw that he was turned on all over again. “Oh no. There isn’t enough time—and I’m not sure I’d survive.”

He grinned. “It’s not my fault. You’re standing there in those sexy-as-sin boots and a short skirt.” He lifted his hands at her. “I can’t help it.”

She loved this playful side of him. Here they were inside a small room in a prison and he was playing around. Dark, mysterious Dominic had a lot more to him than just his serious side, and she liked it as much as the rest of him. She bit her lip and then shook her head. “There isn’t time.” He pouted at her, but was pulling his pants on as he did. She put her bra on and then picked up both of their shirts.

As she pushed her arms back in her blouse, she noticed his bandage had red on it now. Rushing back to the bed, she knelt beside him. “You’re bleeding.”

He glanced down at the bandage. “That might be a good thing. They’ll keep me in medical where I’m safer.”

She leaned down and kissed beside the white patch. He ran his hand down over her hair as she sat back up and looked at him. “I’ll get you out as fast as possible.”

He smiled and continued to run his hand down her hair. “I believe you.” She held out his shirt and helped him get it over his head.

He didn’t move to get up yet and she wondered if he had hurt his side more than he was letting on. She sat back and buttoned up her blouse. “Are you sure you’re okay?”

He smiled and pulled her back down with him. “Just let me have this time with you.”

That wasn’t the answer she wanted. He moved over, and then leaned up so he could kiss her. His kisses were long and lingering, and she felt like she was floating more with each one.

“Thank you for coming today.” He rested his forehead against hers. “I was more than surprised to walk in and see you after our last conversation.”

She quirked an eyebrow at him. “You didn’t look surprised at all.”

He shrugged. “I’m good at my job, and freaking out and throwing myself at your feet and asking forgiveness would not have gone along with the character I have to be in here.”

She giggled. “Throwing yourself at my feet?”

He kissed her again. “Yes. I broke your heart, and I probably could have gone about things a whole lot better.”

She put her hand over his mouth. “I understand why now, and there is nothing to forgive.”

He grabbed her hand and kissed it. “Jennah . . .”

The knock on the door made both of them jump. “Five minutes.”

Jennah leaned over and rested her head on his shoulder. “Are you going to be okay?”

He kissed the top of her head and ran his hand down her long hair. “Yeah. That guard, Barry, he’s watching my back right now and making sure I stay in medical.”

She looked up at him. “I’ll get you out quickly.” He leaned closer, grasped the back of her head, and rested his forehead against hers. She closed her eyes and wanted to stay here with him. His mouth brushed over hers lightly.

“You’ve worn me right out. Help me up.” He gave her a boyish grin.

She got up immediately. “Is it that bad?”

He grinned. “Probably, but I’d do it again.”

She helped him to his feet and then wrapped her arms around his waist carefully. “Just be safe until I can light a fire under a few chairs.”

He chuckled. “I am going to try.”

She nodded, then let go and bent down to pick up the blade. Frowning, she studied him for a moment and then smirked at him. Reaching into his pants, she slipped it into his underwear and grinned when he hissed in a breath.

  “Cold.” He grimaced.

The door opened before she could reply. She grabbed his head and kissed him hard. Stepping back, she watched his eyes for a moment longer. Taking a deep breath, she glared over at the same redheaded guard. She smiled at Dom and then walked over to the guard.

She stopped right in front of him so their toes were almost touching. Poking her finger into his chest, she spoke quietly. “If he gets one more scratch, I am holding you personally responsible.” She poked the surprised man again. “Do you understand?”

He nodded, then stepped back and motioned to the door. “Just go down to the end door again and they’ll sign you out.”

Jennah nodded, glanced at Dominic one last time, and embedded everything about him in her memory before she turned and quickly walked out the door.

Dom listened until the sound of her heels faded and he knew she was through the other door. Barry turned around and looked at him as he shut the door.

“You didn’t tell me this conjugal was the real deal.” He walked over closer to him.

Dom smirked. “Why do you say that?”

Barry grinned and waved a hand at him. “You’re hunched over, in a lot of pain, I’m guessing, but you’re still
grinning like a jackass!”

  Dom chuckled.

Barry knelt down to put the shackles on him. “You pass on the message?”

Dom held his side and watched as he snapped them into place. “Yeah.”

Barry straightened. “Think she’ll get it done?”

Dom grinned. “Oh, yeah.” He smirked at him. “You going to do what she said?”

Barry blew out a breath and nodded. “I think I will. I’m suspecting she can be mean when she wants to be. Can she?”

Dom held in a laugh, knowing it would hurt his side. “She’s only sweet to me.”

Barry snorted. “Figures.” He did up the cuffs and then motioned to the door. “Let’s go.” He paused behind him. “Your side opened up again?”

  Dom winked. “I think so.”

  “Jackass,” Barry mumbled behind him.

  Chapter Eight

Jennah stopped the car when she knew she was a safe distance from the prison. She got her phone out of the glove box and quickly dialled Captain Wilds’ number. He answered on the second ring.

“Captain, its Jennah Best. We have a problem.”

  “You’ve seen Dom?”

She closed her eyes for a second. “Yes. He’s presently recovering from two stab wounds.”

  “Is he all right?”

Her eyes flew open. “No! The inmates and guards, as well, know who he is. He said the warden is the one running all of it.”

“The warden?” His voice was louder.

“Think about it. Why else would cons and guards go after Dom?”

  “Son of a bitch!”

Now he was getting a clear picture. “You have to get him out.”

There was a long silence. “If the warden is in on it, how can we? The original plan was to find the source and then bring the warden in on it.”

“Shit!” She bit her lip. “Okay, there may be someone that can get him out of there, but you have to get a team set up and go after the warden—now!” She heard his voice muffled as he spoke to someone else. “And, Captain?”

  “Yes?”

“I’m part of that team.” She heard him let out a deep breath.

“I’ll call you back in an hour. You get a hold of this person who can get Dom out and have them waiting and ready.”

She nodded. “Will do.” She pushed the End button and leaned against the steering wheel. She did not miss the action, not really. The only reason she was doing this was for Dominic—and justice might be a small part of it too.

Straightening, she looked at the phone in her hand. She couldn’t remember the guard’s name! Think. What was the name on his uniform? She couldn’t very well call the prison guard station and ask to talk to Barry. She closed her eyes. It started with a C. Cleary, Corty, she had to think! Courtney! Opening her eyes, she dialed the phone number and took a deep breath while waiting for the prompts.

She sat in one of the chairs at the back of the room and watched as the captain went over maps and talked to everyone there. Her own captain had been concerned with her volunteering to be part of this. He had hoped she would just go, see what was happening at the prison, and then resume her roll in the Ridge police department. She probably would have, too, if Dominic hadn’t been involved. She’d thought about it a lot on the drive here. Was there a reason she had been shown her abilities just now? Had some force known that Dominic was in trouble and pushed them together? What would have happened to him if they hadn’t connected in a dream?

  “Officer Best?”

She turned to see a sergeant speaking to her. “Yes?”

He motioned with his head. “Captain asked me to take you and find some gear for you.”

She got up. “Oh, thanks.” She followed the tall, thin man to a locker room. As she was looking around, he opened one of the supply cabinets and pulled out a few things.

“Here’s a vest and glasses. It will be close to dark by the time we get there.” He turned and motioned to the other cabinet. “You can find amo in there.” He looked her up and down. “You brought a gun, right?”

Jennah grinned at him and lifted her top. Tucked into her waistband was her favorite, a 9mm Springfield. “And its twin is in my bag.”

He laughed. “Okay then.” He turned to leave, and then stopped in the doorway. “The others and I wanted to thank you for getting the info on Dom. He’s a solo operator most of the time, but he’s always had our backs.”

She inclined her head slightly. “I’m sure he will again. As soon as I make the call, the guard is going to get him out of there.” She peered around the locker room to make sure they were alone. “Do they know who’s been leaking the information?”

He shook his head. “No, this is why there are only five of us in on this. All five owe Dom for one thing or another, so we’re fairly certain it’s none of us.”

She picked up the vest. “Let’s hope so.” He took that as his cue and walked out. She pulled the gun from her jeans and set it on the bench before placing the vest over her head. She hated these things. She always felt confined in one. Smirking, she did it up. Better to feel a little uncomfortable than be dead.

Going over to the cabinet, she opened it and whistled. A small army would be giddy seeing this. Finding what she needed, she put two clips in the lower pocket of the vest and patted it. Turning back, she picked up her bag, pulled the second Springfield out, and tucked it into the back of her jeans. Putting the other one back in the front, she took a deep breath. It had been a long time since she’d used them in the line of duty. Target practice didn’t really count. Let’s hope you still have it. Grabbing the glasses, she headed back out to the others.

  * * * *

She squatted behind the tree and looked around for the others. She had to hand it to them, they were a good team, and it took her several looks before she spotted most of them. She pulled the white hood up over her dark hair and huffed out a breath. Almost kneeling in the cold snow was not one of her favorite things. Maybe she was getting old.

The captain moved up beside her silently. “There are three inside. One is the warden and two others appear to be business associates.”

She didn’t need him to tell her that they were the wrong kind of business associates. She nodded. “Good. It saves hunting them down later.”

He grinned at her. “On my signal, they’re going in. I want you to hang back and call your guard as soon as they’re in. We can’t take a chance on waiting to see what happens to get Dom out.”

  She nodded again. “Got it.”

“I hope they don’t run. I’m too old to chase.”

She grinned. “It’s going to go down smooth, Captain. Just stay back and let your team work.”

He patted her shoulder once and then moved off in the other direction. She took a deep breath and hunkered down lower so she wouldn’t be seen. She studied the set up of the yard and then glanced behind her. If I were going to try to run, I’d take this path. Even with this amount of snow, the path was a good place with the trees sheltering most of it. The snow wasn’t that deep. Rolling her shoulders, she looked back over at the closest team member to her. He was moving forward. Let’s hope they get them and I don’t have to be the fall back.

Pulling out her phone, she brought up Barry’s cell number and held her thumb over the send button. Her hands were cold, but she had never perfected firing her gun with gloves on. Her fingers worked better when she could feel everything. Looking around, she watched as the others moved slowly toward the house. One was now at the back door, crouched low and hardly noticeable. Two others went in opposite directions around the side of the house. The last man was standing behind the bush outside the window. She glanced over at the captain and he nodded his head.

As she hit the send button she heard wood shattering and shouts.

Dom bolted up in the dark when the glass door opened quickly. He grabbed his side and winced at the person in the door. “Barry?”

  Barr
y held his finger over his lips. “You’ve been paroled, let’s go!”

Not taking the time to ask stupid questions, Dom got off the bed and reached under the mattress. He pulled out the blade Jennah had given him and nodded to the man in the doorway. Dom stepped out the door and then froze when another guard was standing there. One he didn’t recognize.
