“My name is Officer Connors, and we have an eyewitness that has come forward to point at your client as being the person responsible for putting a young man in a coma. We have no choice but to bring him in for questioning. If you want to meet us there, then by all means follow us.” They didn’t ask what my profession was and I did not give out any pertinent details. “Your client is in deep trouble and this time there is no amount of money that is going to get him out of it.” There was obviously something personal, but I think that the officer did have reason to act.
“Duncan, don’t worry and everything will be perfectly fine. Don’t say anything, until your representation is there with you. Remember that anything you say can be used against you in a court of law. Don’t be belligerent or try to fight, because that will only make things worse. We’ll clear this up and get you out, as soon as possible.” I saw that he was angry, but my words had soothed the savage beast. He breathed a sigh of relief and I felt like I had at least calmed the waters enough that I would be able to get him a lawyer posthaste. Being a publicist, I had two on speed dial and one was better than the other. I figured for this case, I would use Sheila.
They went through the door and I watched as he did not seem to struggle or show any kind of animosity. He was going to take his lumps, until such time that I could get him out.
Chapter three
“I’ll do what I can, but the evidence is overwhelming. I’ve already made sure that he is alone. I’ll talk to him and find out the truth and we’ll go from there.” Sheila was a ball buster and didn’t take crap from any man or any woman for that matter. Her red hair and attitude to match was something that you had to witness and behold for yourself. “There are a lot of witnesses that claim that there was an altercation between Duncan and the young man in the hospital. Duncan apparently broke a bottle over his head. I believe that it had something to do with some amorous attention on his date.” We were on the steps to the police station and I had given her a carte blanche to bail him out. Having him in there was only going to sully his good name.
“I know that if anybody can help it’s you, Sheila. You know your way around the law. If we can find something innocuous that will clear his name, then we need to do that. I have to have him at that fundraiser tonight, but he can’t show up with this hanging over his head. You’ve already seen that the press is having a field day and I’m going to have to spin this, until such time that he is actually found guilty. After all, he is innocent until proven guilty. That is his inalienable right as a citizen of the United States.”
“Erica, you really should have been a lawyer. You know the inns and outs of the law almost as well as I do, and that’s saying something. Don’t worry, I’ll get to the bottom of this and set a fire underneath those who decide his preliminary hearing. There, we can either put this to bed once and for all, or request bail to be set immediately. He has not shown himself to be a flight risk, so getting bail is not going to be out of the realm of possibility.” She was dressed impeccably in a black suit with a red power blouse that made her look like she was going to war.
“I learned from the best. I’ve watched you work on various occasions and I’ve even done my own research to make sure that I’m up to date. I have to be, because my clients tend to think that they are above the law. Any kind of infraction is usually made to go away, but it’s when they get into the kind of trouble that is more a federal crime that things begin to take a turn for the worse. These prosecutors are looking to make a name for themselves and they’re willing to make an example out of anyone to do it. The more fame and notoriety the better. Right now, Duncan is skirting between being recognized and not.”
“That might be the only way that we’re going to get him out of this. Leave it to me – I have a few friends that can give me everything that I need to mount a defense. I have my firm looking at the video as we speak. They will determine if it’s enough to convict, or not. Right now it’s all circumstantial evidence and a matter of ‘he said, she said’. I can easily punch a hole in anybody’s story and make them feel uncomfortable in their own skin. I’ll make sure that the prosecutor knows that I will be standing by Duncan’s side. It might be enough to make him back down, unless he has undeniable proof.” She went inside and I stayed out, waiting in my silver Lexis with my fingers drumming on the steering wheel.
I had no idea how long I waited until finally they emerged. She didn’t look very happy and I would say that his fate was yet to be determined. Duncan climbed into the back seat and laid his head against it with his arms crossed in defiance. He didn’t say anything. He looked perturbed and ready to smash out the window with his bare fist.
Sheila got into the front seat and we drove away from his problems, but I doubt that was the last time that we were going to see the police station. “They have enough to take him to trial. I tried to convince the assistant district attorney that it would be in his best interest to pick his battles wisely. I reminded him that I was undefeated. I told him that I always find a way to win by hook or by crook. I was ruthless, I took no prisoners and I would make a spectacle of the justice system. He wasn’t biting, but I still have a card to play. I’m going to go over his head and talk to his boss in person at dinner in an hour. I’ve already arranged it. Hopefully by the time that we sit down, I’ll have more information to give him a reason to back down.” I was listening, but I was also navigating the streets like that of a race car driver.
“I don’t even know how to thank you for this. I’ve also put together a small press conference. We have to get out in front of this. I’ll make sure to field all the questions. Duncan is a bit of a hothead, so having him speak only makes things go downhill in a hurry. He will be the strong silent type. After that, I will be able to take him to the fundraiser with his head held high. People will know of the charges pending, but he has not been formally charged with anything.” Sheila had gotten him released since the judge was a friend of hers. It paid to know people in high places.
“I really don’t like people talking about me behind my back. I can hear every word and you make me sound like I am a lost cause. I don’t need constant handholding. I don’t want your pity or your help. I just want to be left alone. How hard is that for everybody to understand?” He was getting a little hot under the collar and I was going to have to throw cold water on his rage.
“You have no idea how much work it takes to keep you out of hot water. You’ll do exactly what you’re told and not say anything about it. I’ve given you a lot of rope and I was hoping that you wouldn’t hang yourself with it. You have done exactly that. Let me untangle the noose, before you find yourself swinging from the gallows. You may not go to jail, but any kind a conviction like this and you can kiss your future with the NFL goodbye. I’m taking you to a friend of mine. He’ll listen to you and maybe you can get this chip off your shoulder once and for all. I should’ve done this a long time ago, but I was foolish to think that you would be able to grow up on your own.” I felt like a new woman. I was somebody that had his best interest at heart and was not going to take no for an answer.
He was about to say something in his own defense, but he found my stern expression looking back at him in the mirror. I turned to Sheila and saw that she was visibly happy to see that I was taking charge. She was probably a little worried that my client was going to get himself drunk and disorderly again. That would be the final straw and something that he could not take back. There was still no real proof that he had done anything to that kid. I had my own independent investigator looking into it, along with Sheila’s own private investigator. Between the two of them, I was sure that they would be able to ferret out the truth.
“You can’t talk to me like that. I won’t stand for it.” He sounded like an impetuous child and I was half tempted to put him over my knee for a spanking. I had to smile thinking that he would probably enjoy that, and not take it as a punishment at all.
I waited in the car for him while he went in to see my psych
iatrist. I had used him on several occasions, not only for other clients but for myself as well. He allowed me to work through some issues about my childhood and maybe he could do the same thing for Duncan.
When he came out of that door an hour later, it looked like he was carrying less weight on his shoulders.
He got in the car and breathed a sigh of relief, before reaching out and taking my hand that was outstretched behind me. “I like him. I didn’t think that I would, but he knows how to listen and dispense advice. I’m not gonna be able to change overnight, but my destructive behavior has got to stop.” Half of the battle was knowing that he had a problem. From there, it was going to be a hard road, but he was strong and he would be able to come out of it on the other side.
“I’m glad that he helped you. I’ve been meaning to talk to you about getting some help for your anger issues, but I was reluctant to shine a light on it. If you have to go to court, then having a psychiatrist standing in your corner is never a bad thing. He can testify to the fact that you are getting help and that you are recovering from some past trauma.” I was only guessing, but the look on his face told me everything that I needed to know. The feel of his fingers squeezing down on my own showed that he was ready to take whatever kind of help he could find.
I followed him into the penthouse, where he packed his stuff and called the NFL team that had arranged the suite to tell them to take it and shove it somewhere. He was turning over a new leaf. How long that would last was anybody’s guess. “This place was never me. I should have thought about what I was doing. I don’t really have a place to stay.”
“You can stay with me.” The words were out of my mouth before I had a chance to take them back. I didn’t mean to be so obvious, but the smirk on his face was like he was thinking dirty thoughts. “I’m not suggesting that we sleep together in the same bed or even the same room. I have more than enough space, but there will be no overnight visitors. This is something that is not negotiable. I’m keeping you away from the clubs for at least a little while. It will encourage people to believe that you are becoming a new man.” He actually carried his own luggage, not bothering to heap that responsibility on me.
We went to my place and it was a small house on the beach. It cost me a pretty penny, but it was well worth it in the end. I woke up every morning to the sound of the surf crashing against the sand. I sat there naked on my porch, drinking a cup of coffee and listening to nature and feeling like the world wasn’t so daunting after all.
Duncan immediately took a shine to the place, going out onto the beach and sitting there in a Lotus position. I followed him out, until I was standing in front of him blocking his sun. He opened his eyes and grabbed me, and before I knew it I was on the sand getting my clothes dirty. I should’ve been furious, but I was living in the moment. Suddenly, he lifted me into his arms and ran into the surf.
I felt the water splashing against us, soaking through our clothes and making his look like they were practically see-through. His pants were showing his obvious arousal and we were up to our chest in the warm water. He looked to me and swallowed hard, and I think for the first time in his life he realized he was in the presence of a woman that knew him better than he knew himself.
“I’ve been blind and I’ve been searching for satisfaction, when the one woman that has been there for it all has been standing right in front of me.” He reached for my glasses, taking them off and tossing them onto the sand. I looked to make sure that they didn’t break and breathed a sigh of relief to see that they landed with no visible harm. “You look so much better without them.” We were standing face to face, and being in a gated community had afforded me the security of knowing that there would be no prying eyes looking in on my business. That had cost me more than I wanted to pay, but was well worth it to have the privacy and the seclusion.
Chapter four
We stared at each other for some time, not moving or even saying a word to each other. His hand cupped my chin and then he kissed me in the magical setting of the ocean and the sun. The environment was ripe for seduction. For the first time in his life, I was the one that was giving him food for thought. I couldn’t believe that he was the one that was going to bring me joy. I saw all the signs and each one pointed to the fact that he could never be more than some kind of Peter Pan. He didn’t know how to grow up, until finally his choices caught up to him and made him look at his life a little differently.
He leaned in for another kiss and I put my hand up to prevent him from going any further. “I don’t want you to do this, just because you need to get one out of the chamber. I’m not going to be some kind of rebound for you to get off with. You’ll walk away without even thinking about my feelings. I need to know that you are in this for the long haul and that this is not just some temporary condition. I’ve liked you for a very long time. I really didn’t know how to tell you without ruining our business relationship.” He listened intently, not saying a word and actually allowing me to get this off my chest.
“I understand that you are reserved and you might feel that this is a knee jerk reaction to what has happened. I think that you are the only one that has treated me like I wasn’t some pretty boy, over privileged kid with the whole world in the palm of my hand. You made me feel like you cared. That’s more than I can say for any conquest that I took to bed. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed each and every one of them in their own way, but it was an empty feeling afterwards. I now know that I was waiting for love to finally find me.” For him to throw that word around wasn’t right. There was no way he could know that he was in love with me.
“That’s just it, Duncan. You say one thing and you mean another. I’m hoping that this is different. I do want you. I promise that I would be unlike any woman that you’ve had before.” His hand was still on my chin and it was causing goosebumps to appear on my skin. They had nothing to do with the water, but the heat of his body that close was making me want to throw caution to the wind.
“I know that I’ve treated women like it was my God given right to give them my cock. I’m sorry that I’ve never seen you before, but that’s going to change.” This time, I allowed his lips to touch mine. It was soft yet demanding and I felt his hand on the small of my back pressing me closer towards him, so that my nipples were now grazing against his soaked shirt. I had my hands at his belt, undoing it and then reaching into the waistband to feel what he had for me. This was a risk. It was very possible that he could be using me, but for the first time I thought differently.
It was a beautiful day and having him kissing me like that made me feel like I was on top of the world. I gave in to my feelings, stripping away all other pretense. I was giving myself to him freely and willingly. I felt his cock pressed up against me and the one thing that was getting in the way was our clothes. We stepped away from each other for a moment, watching as we did our own private striptease for each other. The only sound was the waves and the unseen music that was playing in our heads.
With embarrassment, I covered my naked breasts and kept on my panties that were pretty much nothing, but a thin fabric that was soaked and barely any obstacle at all. He had no shame, showing off his muscles, including the one that had made my eyes go wide with the implication of what it would feel like to have him in a physical way.
We moved closer to shore, so that I could get down on my knees and service him with my mouth. I gave in to my desire, letting my tongue take the lead. I touched it and it moved, like it was enjoying what I was doing. “I have to admit that I’ve never fantasized about you. There was that one dream that I woke up with a little bit of a mess to clean up.” The very idea that he had a wet dream about me was making it easier to subdue him with my mouth. Seductively, I licked around the entire thing, before letting it dip onto the surface of my tongue. The heat of his discharge only made me salivate for more.
“I know that we might be moving a little too fast, Erica. If you want to slow things down…holy fuck…did you just fucking deepth
roat me.” I enjoyed the sound of his surprise. I’ve had other lovers think that I was meek and mild and find out that I was a kinky little bitch in the sack. Bobbing my head up and down to take him, as deep as possible was a joy to be had. I felt him trickle his hot seed along my tongue every time that he appeared at my lips. I had him exactly where I wanted him and it was just a matter of time, before he gave me a mouthful.
I squeezed his balls in my hand, feeling the silky skin against my palm. That was giving me an idea of how far to go. I pulled them down, preventing his imminent ejaculation. He was beside himself with his hands wrapped around my hair to keep me in place. There was no other place that I wanted to be. This was exactly where I should be and it felt natural to let myself feel those feelings that I had kept under wraps all this time.
“You know exactly what you’re doing. You really don’t take any prisoners. Girls always let me find mine first, but you’re not going to do that.” He seemed a little taken back by that, but I didn’t want to be lumped into the category of every other girl that had thrown themselves at him.
I was working in a frenzy, holding him on the precipice and waiting for that moment of truth. I finally took the pleasure away, seeing him look down at me with confusion. He was an animal taken out of its cage. He lifted me into the surf, so that I was lying there with the buoyancy of my chest, as my own personal flotation devices.
It was his turn to show me what he could do with his mouth. I’d never done this in the ocean before and the experience was by far exceeding my expectations. “I don’t know if I will be able to hold back my orgasm. I’ve been thinking about this day from the moment that you came into my life, as a client. You have no idea how many sleepless nights have been spent thinking about fantasy after fantasy.” He was peeling my lips open with his thumbs and then using his fingers to find my swollen clit at the ready. He easily applied pressure to that, making me thrash in the water, but able to stay floating, despite the fact that he was taking me out of my own body.
